Joby's Gorillamobile keeps your phone firmly affixed to whatever
Historically, the Gorillapod's lease in life has been all about mounting cameras to tree branches, goalposts, and strangers' limbs -- but, you know, cameras aren't the only things in the world that could use that kind of superhuman capability, are they? To that end, Joby has introduced Gorillamobile, a package of goodies that includes the company's Gorillapod Original -- its smallest flexible tripod -- along with tripod, suction cup, and adhesive clips for attaching various smartphones and point-and-shoots. What's it good for? Well, that's entirely up to you and your overactive imagination -- but Joby shows iPhones being securely stowed on desks, exercise bikes, and strollers, so we're sure you'll be able to figure out something. Look for it to ship on August 10 for $29.95.

that's awesome
This is a great idea. I was considering a good way to prop up an iPod touch, or iPhone while trying to watch a video on an airplane...i wonder if this could find a way to latch itself onto a seatback.
Seatback slash headrest mounting for my iPod Touch - I would KILL for that.
(Probably not actually kill, but I'd do just about anything else. Or do anyone, if it came to that!)
I have to stick a suction cup on my phone or some double stick solution. FAIL ! I wont trust a suction cup at the gym or anywhere else, and having a knob always sticking out of the back of my phone would sure suck. I was expecting maybe a holster type solution. So if i really want this to work I have to buy it, and also buy some type of a case to slip the phone into that will have the double stick knob on it.
Cool idea but it kind of goes back to the universal swivel clips in the Nokia days... People don't want crap stuck to there nice mobile devices.
on a not so bitchy side. I do love all there other products !
Looks like a "command strip" sort of deal where you pull a tab and the adhesive lets go, so it's not permanent. I would've thought the suction cup would be fine though. It's not like it'll be moving around too much when you're at the gym.
Agree with MikeN, especiallly with expensive phones that will be moving around, it all depends on what you do with it, but a holster solution would have been safer, since there is no screw hole point like on an SLR
I have one of these, bought for my iphone 3G. I will not use the suction cup to attach my iphone. It _works_ but it doesn't stick for long... definitely not long enough to watch a movie on a plane, and especially with the plane and normal turbulence. _Maybe_ on a desk, I'd use this.
Also while I haven't tried the sticky option, I do have it, and I'm pretty sure it's not as was said above the removable type. I think it's stuck, and permanent. I also would not use that option, for that reason.
Also, I'm not sure why this thing is getting so much play lately; it's been out for some time (I have practically forgotten about mine [actually, I got it for Christmas]). It's not a new version or anything ,either.
It's a neat toy, but it's just that. A toy. If Joby wants to come out with something that works, they can just make a _case_ that holds the phone, with a screw attachment just like you'd use for your camera. Then I'd trust it to hold my phone.
I'm glad they're putting out the new "heads" as a kit for existing Gorillapod owners.
Great.a good combination of flexible thunderbeads and a vibrator.
i see you are taking you gadget fetish to the next level...
Not really...but im sure there are few others who would volunteer..
mhh was just finished watching War of the world...looks familiar.
I'm not sure why they are re-releasing this as "new" - it looks exactly like the Gorillapod Go-Go! they have had for a couple of months. Same price, same accessories.
Can it be spun to landscape?
That's what I said to your mom...
OH COME ON PEOPLE, THAT ONE WAS JUST LEFT BEGGING!
no, not really.
but it is awful.
This is just a renamed GorillaPod Go-Go.
Oh right, that's a GREAT idea. Give it tentacles...
this product has been out for over a month already, happily own one which I purchased at the eddie bower store for the price stated above. it holds my fuji s1000fd perfectly and is small enough to fit in my pocket is great.
Yes, the screw mount works, but the suction cup is the "new" part here (and the sticky pad), and that doesn't work all that great.
Actually, even the suction cup isn't the new part; as has been mentioned before, these have been shipping for a while as the "Go-Go" model, which I purchased. It works fine enough for everyday use and, more importantly, airplane use. Considering all the convoluted ways to prop up an iPod, PSP, or what have you so you can watch a movie, it's nice to know that if you use this you can always get a device to a respectable viewing angle.
Users who use their phone as GPS...this can be useful..only thing needed is a way to gorilla the gorilla on the car dashboard.
I have the camera one, and I love it. If I could get around having to convert all my video to watch on an iTouch/iPhone I'd get this too... Hmmm will they make a universal one? I have Creative Zen that could benefit...
I'm sure it will happen, but a magnetic head for the Palm Pre would make a nice gorilla pod add on. For the iPhonatics, anyone fancy retro fitting a 1/4 inch tripod thread to their phone?
Great idea! I got the camera one from an online store, and it works fine. Its sturdy prehensile legs firmly secure my camera to anything, so i can get a steady shot in virtually any situation. I am planning to get this new edition for my iPhone, since what i have is only for digital cameras. Here it is:
