Palm Pre sales go live at Amazon
If you love the Pre, but hate Best Buy or Sprint, now you've got the option of nabbing one through an online reseller you can live with: Amazon. The device has just popped up on the super-retailer's site, and like the aforementioned blue and yellow reseller, you don't have to worry about any pesky mail-in rebates -- the phone is $199.99 out the virtual door. Also of note, you can nab the non-contract version for $499.99, which is a $50 savings over the Sprint pricing, and certainly a value compared to Best Buy's $749.99 price tag. Only bummer note? Amazon says these babies won't ship for 4 to 6 weeks... which basically sucks.

w00000!!!
That would never happen with Italians.
More important than any one man's life, is order.
.......most random comment ever...italians? genius
You know, "that sucks" is normally what I say when I can save $250 over bestbuy with no mail in rebate.... nice....
isn't it 99 dollars at best buy?
No. The reason to buy at best buy over the sprint store was that there was no mail in rebate.
It's 99 with contract. This is a no contract phone.
It's not a "no contract" phone and it's no longer $99 there (at least for awhile - I think the "mistake" was a too early release of the $99 price)
However, at letstalk.com you CAN get it for $99 with a contract, shipping in a day or so (at least you could the last time I checked).
Maybe you're thinking of the iPhone 3G?
I think these guys like being gang raped by Apple, Rim and Windows mobile.
If the thing did video recording, I'd be in. You never know when you'll be witness to a police beating.
When your Obama's professor friend/tool ?
So, basically Amazon put up a place-holder page for when they will have the Pre at some undefined point in the future.
how bout some frickin employee-sales, sprint? it's been about two months!
Seriously, its really about time they let employees get it.
sprint.com/sero
Its already available on Everything Plus Referral -- you can order online now. Doesn't this mean employees can get it?
So is there a program available so that you can sync it with your computer? If that is still unavailable, then this phone is useless. I really wanted to snag this to replace my Touch Pro. Anyone know if it's capable of sync'ing now?
What exactly do you need to be synced?
There is a tool to do a one-time data migration. But otherwise, no, you only sync with with the cloud... Google, Exchange Server, etc. You can sync your music with your desktop, as well as access the phone as a mass storage device.
Why does it matter, though? It's not really necessary.
(Sry for the double post, "reply" didn't work the 1st time..)
Pocket Mirror is not a one time migration tool if that's what you are referring to. It allows you to sync with Outlooks contancts and calendar over wifi.
Brendon,
I have well over a 1000 contacts that I do not wish to manually into a new phone.
Mark,
I don't have an exchange, though I do get Push Mail from Bell (not the same thing ofcourse). And I don't want to drop the hundreds of bucks just to set up an exchange when my previous phone could just sync my calendar, contacts etc whenever I plugged it into my computer.
Sweet Greggo,
I thought Pocket Mirror was just for the old Palm platform. Does it actually work with WebOS, and is it free?
Where, oh where is my beloved htc touch pro 2?
HTC sucks, i rather buy from countries that do not enslave workers, i rather get an Apple, Pre or BlackBerry
lol yeah because we all know that apple uses the highest quality manufacturing labor out there.... you do realize that every phone is made in pretty much sweatshop like conditions?
Seriously dude, you need to stop posting about the Touch Pro 2 in posts that don't concern it, at all. It makes you look like a dumbass.
No one ever mentions this but, this phone over heats drastically and battery life is extremely short.
Returned mine twice.
Nice phone though.
Mine doesn't overheat in the least bit, and my battery life is fine. To each his own :-)
Since people change phones every two years i do not see why people who's contracts do not end now are not all over it. Mine will end in January of 10 and i will get Pre or maybe the new Storm.
I would love a Palm Pre, and the sprint plans are really cheap compared to att, but they have horrible coverage. The coverage map is piss poor compared to verizon or att. So until that is resolved, I can't
Verizon and AT&T playing pre-schooler and coloring in their coverage maps is irrelevant; As long as the carrier gives you good service in your city and the surrounding places you visit frequently, it doesn't matter.
I don't give a damn if Verizon has the biggest network, I have zero issues with my T-Mobile myTouch 3G down here is SoCal.
Yea, it just depends on your area. I live in the metroplex so I get great Sprint coverage everywhere. I imagine every carrier works here pretty well, though.
my dad drives literally all over the country and has had att, verizon, and sprint and will only use sprint now. he said its the only carrier that he can go have service literally the entire time he is driving across the country, minus a few spots of course. I've had them all too and do agree that verizon is pretty good, but sprint still had the best phone coverage IMO.
Keep in mind that Sprint roams on Verizons network and since you get free roaming....you get the point. I never understood how someone can say sprints coverage is bad when Verizons is good since they, you know, share.
In fact, for all intents an purposes (to the user) Sprint's network is bigger than Verizon's.
Sprint allows your Sprint phone to roam to Verizon. Verizon does _not_ allow your Verizon phone to roam to Sprint. If there is any area that Sprint has coverage that Verizon doesn't - the Sprint phone wins. That's huge.

I know I shouldn't let the advertising campaign on an item sway me so much but...
I -hate- the Palm Pre ads. Hate them. No, that's not quite it... I HATE them. They have a level of smugness that would smother Bill O'Reilly. I superficial importance that makes a mud puddle seem like an ocean. Plus that girl looks like she's trying hard to break into the uncanny valley from the human side (or just pulling back her hair so hard that it's flattening her face).
I can't recall when I last found any ad so repellent.
I agree, they're so pointless and irritating. The girl looks terrible like she has way too much makeup on/she's about to faint and the ads don't even show anything meaningful about the product. Sorry Palm, in the shape you're in, you need to be making ads that highlight your products, not some lifestyle bullshit.
"certainly a value compared to Best Buy's $749.99 price tag"
Does Best Buy actually sell the Pre for $749.99, or do they just claim that as the list price so that they can pretend to give you $250 off?
That's actually the price you'll pay if you buy it off contract.
Wirefly has the palm pre for $169.99!!
http://www.wirefly.com/specialoffer.aspx?cid=33866_e9298e7eb7bc487db54f98c526f8bf74
whoa is that pretty legit? i've never used that site before
Wirefly is one of the biggest online cell phone shops... I've bought from them before...
If you hate Sprint, why would you get this now?
LetsTalk also has it for $99 after rebate.
@Eric, yes, but as I noted in the comment cross-post below, the rebate is instant... unlike Sprint's.
I don't know how the one-day effect will go over though. I don't think Sprint will enjoy all these $99 false-starts. It's going to make buyers wait.
Cross-posting my comment from Engadget Mobile:
Thought you would want to know, LetsTalk has just countered Amazon's sale with their own Pre one-day sale.
$99, today only. And, unlike Best Buy, this time it's for real:

Or, in Engadget-speak:
OMGZ Pre is $99 for reals at LetsTalkz!!

Kidding, of course :)
Make the GSM version $499 and I'm there.
