Intel denies rumors that Z-series Atoms are headed for the grave

Intel wants you to know that the rumor that its Z-series Atom chips are headed for the "discontinued" pile is not true. A few days back, we heard that the chips -- which were initially designated for MIDs but made their way into some netbooks -- could no longer be ordered from Intel. A spokesperson for the company, however, speaking with Register Hardware, said that the rumors were "100 percent inaccurate." We'll just have to wait and see how this all pans out, but we're still not feeling terribly positive about poor little MIDs' odds.

oh well.
is everyone boycotting this article? wtf?
Too bad.
I wish all of the Atoms would go the way of the dinosaur. I'd much rather see Core2Duo ULV (ultra-low voltage) chips go into these instead of the Atom in all its 512kb cache glory.
Also, death to the Intel 945GM graphics chip!
the GMA950 isn't all that bad, granted I would not be able to use it on my main PC, but for my netbook its fine. Even does Aero too (but I don't use it myself as I want to conserve battery)
There is no way a Core2Duo ULV could replace Atom at its current price point.
their future is not uncertain at all, you guys just got the story wrong the first time around. nobody (except you) ever said z-series was being discontinued; every other gadget blog i read reported that intel was just going to stop shipping the chips to netbook manufacturers to reinforce the z-series as a MID-only part.
here's somebody who got the story right the first time around:

I think core2duo is best as compared to the atom. They should make a core2duo which consumes low energy and must be powerful all the same.

They do.. the ULV versions only consume about 10Watts (about 4 times more than the Atom). However they cost something like 7-8 times more [than an Atom].
