Nikon D300s, pro photographers meet up to make magic together
What better way to show off your company's latest DSLR than by giving it to a couple of professional photographers to work their magic? Nikon's done just that, handing off its just-announced D300s to noted photojournalist Ami Vitale and sports photographer Robert Bösch. The pair submitted stills and videos from their trial run, and the results are unsurprisingly impressive -- there's only one noticeable instance of rolling shutter, in the beginning of Bösch's video with the helicopter blades. Of course, there's no telling how much post-production work went into these pieces, and let's not forget these are pros in their element -- average Joe isn't gonna be able to pick up this camera and produce the same results. Footage after the break, or hit up the read link to see all the impressions and sample works.

Does the D300s insert that awesome music into the videoclips???
Well, I would like to know if there are manual controls in the D300s for the video mode, or not. And if yes, what controls exactly. If not, then the 5D-MarkII remains the best of the best in terms of DSLR-video.
Yes, we know from your previous comment you love your 5D Mark II.
Nearly $1000 less, you're not even comparing two like cameras.
They aren't even close, one has a full frame sensor, takes 1920x1080 video, and weighs less. You do get what you pay for sometimes, and I can't find too much wrong with splurging an extra $1k for a camera that will still take great pictures 15-20 years from now. Unless they come out with even bigger sensors, but those cost $25k right now.
omg the best part comes at 1:58 in the second clip!!! can't wait to get it :P
You mean the part with the still picture? whats so special about that?
or am i missing the sarcasm tag somewhere.
The title brings certain uncomfortable broke-back-mountain movie scenes ......
DO NOT WANT !!!
Bit harsh to say that your average joe won't be able to get the same results. The quality looks stunning. There are some great nikkor lenses out there. Never given that much thought to dslr video until I saw these. I'll be saving my pennies (or waiting for the d700 version)
I agree with Ted, sure a beginner wont get those shots but I bet a pretty average shooter can. Granted some of the stills would take some previous knowledge to get, like with the bikers in focus and background streaked. The first video wasn't really that impressive, other than the post production work.
I think I can take some pretty damn good pics with my D40, just need to know where to be and what settings to be on to get the effect you want. Just takes practice.
Wow, that guy on a snowboard with a parachute strapped on his back reminds me when I was a kid and I put on roller-skates while on a bicycle with no hand brakes. Boy, that was stupid too.
can we really not produce the same results? who do you think we are!?!?
Technically of course many can. But if everyone has the eye for good compositions? Does everyone know how to cut a film so that it is perfect? Don't think so.
Profesional photographer in 'takes awesome pictures' shocker!
What is with all the spam posted above?
awesome sony sensors!
Eh, no.
Sony manufactures the sensors, but the design is all Nikon.
Hmm... no... I think that comment covered it. 'awesome sony sensors'. Really... didn't mention design at all. Good reading comprehension.
No it didn't.
Are iPhones called awesome Foxconn phones because they made them? Same difference.
@ Synn
Well that analogy doesn't quite work either. Using your analogy, that would be calling the Nikon a Sony camera...he was merely commenting on the sensor, not the product as a whole.
Fair enough.
If Intel or AMD make their chips at XYZ factory in the middle of nowhere, what would one call them?
The point is, Sony only plays the role of manufacturer for Nikon's sensor. All the R&D on them are done by Nikon and there is absolutely no sense in calling them Sony sensors.
the second video is broken for me, doesn't go past 2minutes :(
I'm sorry but 5D Mk2 pisses all over this
Shouldn't it?
The 5D Mark II is full frame... and $2700 for the body.
The D300s is a crop sensor... and $1800 for the body.
I'm sorry but the Red One pisses all over the 5D Mk2
Well, for about $1000 more I would damned well hope so.
@Kadajawi
I am sorry but Hubble pisses all over the Red One...
Could someone please explain to me why they are trying to sell an HD camera and these videos are not in HD? Am I missing something here?
Average Joe can't produce the same results?
Its in S mode so all he did was use a very fast shutter, point and click. He didn't even need to pan since the shutter is so fast.
Maybe I'm not average joe, but I'm sure that shot wasnt that hard to capture.
