Nintendo DSi Facebook connectivity coming to North American tonight
Hey North America, jealous of your Japanese and European friends who've already got Facebook integration on their DSis? Fear not, Nintendo of America's announced that firmware 1.4 will be pushed out tonight after 8:00PM ET -- in other words, any time now. We still haven't gotten the update yet, but let us know if and when you've got better luck!

"Hey North America, jealous of your Japanese and European friends who've already got Facebook integration on their DSis?"
No. No, we're not.
+1
I don't want my flash cart crippled
o29, you're so fat: when people ask questions about North America, you assume they're talking to just you!
He's right, they're talking to all of us, and I completely agree with o29.
which lucky North American is this coming to?
I am proud to bestow upon you this coupon for One Internet.
Void where prohibited.
SRIOUSLY? man im gonna get my DSi so i can get my facebook on like OMG LOLZ
I think its awesome that this feature is coming to North American. North American needs Facebook connectivity on the DSi.
Hehe... we can see your password.
it seems to be up now, just updated the firmware on my dsi, but i don't have a facebook account, and don't care to make one either :P
Ahh...so you're the lucky North American that got the update.
Better luck next time to the rest of us, I guess...
I don't think it is really an appropriate feature. Why would you put this kind of application in the hands of kids/preteens.
myspace and twitter seem more appropriate for the dsi
I like it, it's on my DSi...as for the kids part...this is a lot easier to monitor than a kid's cell phone.
I got the update and put a couple pics up today... it's pretty cool, but also pretty barebones integration, it doesn't allow you to look at your page or do anything other than upload photos, at least as near as I've been able to see. It certainly works though.
What's the point? I mean seriously...
Its tricknology.
DO NOT download this update if you use any form of flash card including the Acekard 2i. It will break compatibility of said card and render it useless until another workaround for the flash card is found. This is learned, sadly, from firsthand experience with the Japanese update.
too little
too late
It's already here
Facebuku!
I should've known that Nintendo would break my AceKard... Hopefully they can patch it!
Damnit. WHICH NORTH AMERICAN? Engadget please specify details in your articles, thank you!
Doing a system update right now!
Well, that is if the connection would stay stable enough for me to download it. lol.
Updating too!
Glad to have my japanese version of the dsi to check the update earlier: Here's how to do the setup - http://www.vimeo.com/4145970
I successfully updated! My phone died, and now I'm using a camera-less model. I would upload tons of pics from my phone so this helps...
It also helps that I put my 2 favorite CDs on my DSi. Back to business...*satisfied grunt*
Hey, I am Le frechman who's got the update too. It's working ok here. But the quality of the picture make me want to avoid to upload hem to the intewebs !
"Le frenchman", sorry. English is difficult for us, poor europeans !
Is the only way to update via wifi? I can't connect to my wifi so I bought the nintendo USB connector and the software provided only work under xp. Anyone know a workaround?
I haven't gotten a Nintendo DSi to replace my DS yet and somehow I don't think I'm missing out in terms of apps.
latest update killed my R4i card.
www.r4i-sdhc.com is offline too. crashed or crushed?
Well, not exactly a "wonder-update", especially since I don't use Facebook :P I do use a Acekard, which is now unusable on my DSi, so that kind of sucks. I don't pirate games (mostly because its wrong, and partly because I love the little boxes), but the homebrew sector for the DS is huge, and apps like Colors, Animanitee and Pocket Physics are just absolutely wonderful.
Until Nintendo comes up with apps as wonderful as some of those in the hombrew sector, this campaign on the DSi is crap. The amazing homebrew make me want to use my DS more, and killing them off like this has got to be the second worst idea Nintendo has ever had (the first being their giving Phillips the rights to make Legend of Zelda games).
To all who say "well, it prevents piracy, so losing hombrew is an acceptable casuality", I say "better to let a hundred guilty men do free than to wrongly imprison one innocent man". By killing support for these cards, in a campaign against piracy, is Nintendo not assuming that all who use such cards are pirates? What ever happened to "innocent until proven guilty", a cornerstone of democracy and humanity?
I think that Nintendo should either end their weak attempts at "stopping piracy" (something NO other company has EVER done), or at least open its mind to the ideas of superb homebrew developers who can't possibly afford licensing with Nintendo. These people do this for FREE, on their OWN TIME, and put so much HARD WORK AND EFFORT into their apps that many could be mistaken for professional designs.
Possibly Nintendo could implement some way for these small developers to have their software available on more legitimate channels, such as the DSi Shop? Heck, if these sort of apps were in the Shop, we wouldn't be hearing about how the DSi Shop sucks. I realize that it would be unwise to simply open the floodgates to anyone, but perhaps Nintendo could put a little effort into developing a system to get these things included in the Shop. So far, Nintendo has proven itself lackluster at best in any area concerning the internet. This could bring them out of their slump.
@junk_email_01
That's what the DSi Browser is for.
ALSO:
Before anyone says it, I realize that Animanitee has a better, Nintendo-made counterpart, Ugomemo / Flipnote Studio. But as with so many other things, Nintendo has failed to get this out of Japan, despite it being horrendously easy, and considering just how much time they've had since Japanese release.
