Palm Pre drops to $99 at LetsTalk online store, for a limited time
It's a limited time offer, and the handset is currently out of stock -- you'll have to wait a few days for delivery -- but cutesy online phone retailer LetsTalk is offering the Pre for a mere $99 after a $100 rebate and a $100 instant discount. This sort of price flexibility bodes well for the truly budget conscious eying this phone, though as demonstrated time and time again: you're saving a lot more in the long run with a cheap plan than a cheap phone, something that's been a lock since day one with the Pre.

Man I hate rebates.
yeah does anyone know how reliable letstalk rebates are?
It happens.
Yeah, kinda like the reducing of prices on the IPhone tolled its end. C'mon Paul, think before you troll those comments.
Don't feed the troll.
Yeah, my mistake.
@ Hardeep
You might want to be careful of a Let's Talk rebate right now. I have a Fuze rebate that is in process. I went to the processor's website today and it appears that they are no longer in business. (http://letstalk.rebatestatus.com.) I sent an E-mail to Let's Talk to find out what the next steps are.
25RAFPCVER1 for $25 off, making the total $75.
HTC touch pro 2 FTW!
OneLove, what the fuck is your problem? Why do you always add your random shit to the first post?
I finally was able to handle one of these at the Sprint Store on 13th and Chestnut in Philly. It's a nice looking phone, good OS, but my big fingers would have issues with the keyboard and the back of it felt cheap and flimsy, in similar feeling with G1 but worse.
If I was on Sprint, and I did not get this already I would have today if available through this offer. Good price for a top phone.
once you get the touchstone back it won't feel cheep and flimsy
the keyboard sucks for anyones fingers. thats a deal breaker. thats like the main most important part of the phone if you email, go on the web or any other basic function. alot of phones do something really good but only the iphone does everything all in one package. 32 gigs, good keyboard in my opinion, ipod mp3 player, best web browser, full gps, video recording, portable game system, digital camera good enough for quick photos.
I find myself getting noticeably faster with the keyboard as time goes on.... In fact it's very easy for me to hit the buttons with my thumbs. I was just wary of "button mashing" before, that is 100% not a real issue.
That's still a lot of money for a 3G phone on a network that cannot handle the most basic cellular multitasking: voice & data simultaneously.
That's okay. You can enjoy your lower voice quality, and slower data speeds. I will enjoy using my wireless and voice at the same time. In fact why wouldn't you be doing this most of the time? You shouldn't be browsing the web and chatting on the phone while driving....
Pathetic...Palm already lowering it to clearance prices? Making way for the iPhone 3GT?
Palm doesn't lower prices wholesalers do. Go take some marketing/sales classes
Wholesalers would be losing money if they dropped it this low.
Palm sells the devices to Sprint, who sells it to the channel. So if this is $99, Sprint is partially responsible. Sprint would like to have more customers, so they might take a bit of a loss (er, more than usual) to make sales.
I've owned an iPhone since day 1, and I've fiddled with the Pre. iPhone > Pre.
BUT
The iPhone still dropped it's price pretty quickly to get more buyers, so this doesn't mean failure of the device at all. If anything, it means quicker adoption.
What about buying a Palm Pre w/out a contract? What kind of price would I be looking at paying? - What should I aim for?
that's one of my biggest complaints about Sprint, and I don't see many folks talking about it...can't do data and voice at the same time...can't be on a bluetooth headset talking to someone and be checking the weather, movies, or such...pretty lame...what's the point of a multi-tasking smart phone if the carrier can't multi-task?
Wait, what? Because you know, my G1 allows me to play games or surf the net while I'm on the phone...I can't believe the Pre would be so bad as to not be able to do that.
@gerrrg: It's a network thing, not a phone thing. Sprint's network doesn't support simultaneous voice and data use. Neither, I believe, does Verizon.
It's actually Sprint's network that is the problem, not the Pre. The data and voice can only be active one at a time.
No CDMA networks can do voice and data at the same time, period. GSM can.
Who the hell cares if you can't do voice and data at the same time? It's not like I'm a douche that would get a phone call and then completely ignore them by browsing the web or something.
My gf is talking to me rite now as I type this. Bla bla. LOlz
In practice I almost never even want to do this. But, if you really must be talking and surfing the web, you can do it if you are in a WiFi area. At home, at work, at many restaurants, coffee shops, and bookstores... you can still pull that off.
The 50% price drop can only mean one thing: VC partners and Palm want the phone to sell more before Q3 ends to make it look good.
Desperation is mounting.
Please explain something too me. Fine some people like the Pre some like iPhone, thats cool. They both have pros and cons. Taking the device out of the picture, Sprint touts the monthly fee for the Pre to be so much less than the iPhone, I think they said billions less if you count all the iphone users up. Yet in this add, the 69.99 fee is give or take $5 near what I pay on ATT. So where are the big savings?
I had Sprint once, they suck
I had Verizon once, they were pretty good
I have ATT they are fair, not as good as Verizon.
ATT I like because i have a GSM phone.
The iphone plan on at&t is not an everything plan. You get 450 minutes and still have to pay for how much you want in text messages. I think you get only 200 text as part of the low end plan.
"Sprint has announced a domestic unlimited pricing plan that gives customers unlimited voice, data, text, e-mail, Web-surfing, Sprint TV(SM), Sprint Music, GPS Navigation, Direct Connect® and Group Connect® for $99.99 a month."
Read that link they have in the body of the story above and it talks about the plan differences.
If you get the everything plan, there is a $50 savings per month. That plan selected has unlimited messaging. If you never ever text message, then you're right, the plans match up in price.
Sprint's $70 plan offers a lot more than AT&T's. If you want an AT&T plan that exactly matches Sprint's $70 plan it will cost:
$40 for voice
$30 for data
$9 for early N/W
$20 for texts
$10 for navigation
Which comes to $109 for the exact same services that Sprint's $70 plan offers. Most people don't need all of that, so their plans will be lower.
Don't forget the turn-by-turn as well. You could technically also include SprintTV but that isn't anything special.
Fair note of warning to any wanting to do this: read LetsTak's terms and conditions first. Should you cancel within 180 days of activation, they'll charge you $250 - on top of any applicable Sprint ETF. You have a 7 day return period, instead of Sprint's customary 30 days. You have to maintain the minimum service plan for at least 180 days, or the rebate is invalid - it may also be made invalid for any suspensions or late payments on your account.
LetsTalk offers great deals... but there's always a catch.
@ Hardeep
Concerning Letstalk.com I can vouch they are legit. The only thing I noticed when I ordered from them, is that they require you to keep the contract for 6 months. In that time frame if you make any changes, they ask you to go through them. Or they charge you a fee... This is how they are able to offer the phones for less than the actual carrier, I guess...
$100 for the handset (after rebates) on a $70 contract with a $36 "activation fee"!?! What's good about this deal??
- lets talk is legit and i never had a problem with the. the price discount is through letstalk not PALM.
- rebate takes about 3 months or more from past experiences.
- As for the keyboard it is not a problem for me, i can easily type and much faster than an iphone. i would say similar to the trio but more rubbery.
- I switched to sprint from ATT in chicago and i find sprint as reliable if not better than ATT.
You people are idiots. Just because the phone hits 99 dosnt mean Plam is in trouble. Palm sells the phones to sprint, and in turn sells them to store that sell sprint. these stores make most of their money not on phones, but on how many lines they sell. most lose money on the phone, but get it back, and more for the line they sell.
Why must people always complain that Sprint/Verizon can't do Voice & Data at the same time? Are the people you are talking to either so boring or unimportant that you must be on the web at the same time?
Re: The ad
There is still a MIR and that just irks me too!
umm...what about checking for a local restaurant while you're on the phone with a friend or business associate? What about checking weather and/or tee times for this afternoon while on the phone with the person whose schedule also impacts the golf game?
it really doesn't take very much of an imagination to come up with dozens of reasons that simultaneous voice and data are an advantage...sheesh
@nitrous9200
You're wrong. GSM IS NOT capable of simultaneous voice; its 3G solution, W-CDMA/HSPA (which is based off of CDMA) is capable of it. CDMA is also capable of simultaneous voice and data had CDMA carriers chosen to go with EVDV instead EVDO.
Lets Talk offers cheaper phones because those phones fell off a truck near New Jersey
To clarify pricing:
Let's Talk's $99 special is only for new accounts. Their upgrade price (for current Sprint customers) shows up as $299.
Wirefly has it for $169 for new accounts, $199 for upgrades.
Amazon seems to be offering the best "no contract" price at $499.
Sprint probably has nothing to do with Let's Talk's one day sale. I'll bet it's a "loss leader" to get people to talk about the site and to visit.
Make sure you know what you're getting into: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Let_s_Talk
Only a "buy one get one free or two free" sale will possibly increase product movement for this device. The excitement generated by this sale is akin to watching a slug traverse a football field. One hundred yards or boredom. The Pre has become the biggest failure of 2009.
try best buy. also on sale for $99. Just got another one for my dad there this week.
With service plan and this coupon 25RAFPCVER1 you get it at a final price of $74.95.
