Looks like our one of our dreams just might come to fruition after all, if this newest rumor coming from the vicinity of
Nikon is to be believed, anyway. Now, there aren't a lot of details to go round here, but
Nikon Rumors is reporting that
Chasseur d'Image -- a print magazine in France with a history of publishing rumors that turn into reality -- has published a report that Nikon will soon announce the VP650. What is this VP650, you ask? Well, it's a hybrid compact digital camera with an
LED projector (which may or may not be manufactured by Taiwanese company Foxlink) that can project 8 x 12 images in "good quality" in the dark. Chasseur d'Image reports that the VP650 will ship in September. Like we said -- not a whole lot of detail, but we'll keep our eyes peeled to see if this thing ever appears. We'll say this though -- such a product would probably make the tiny projector a lot more attractive.
Ahhhh! Too much convergence
Heresy! We can never have too much convergence! And I'm wondering if this Chasseur d'Image magazine can print a rumor that says "the new Apple Tablet will be out in September with Mac OS X with a 10 inch screen and 4GB of RAM with a built-in camera and projector" to make it come true.....
8 x 12 what?
"(...) that can project 8 x 12 images (...)" Is that inches, feet, cm, or a math problem? Is the answer 96?
She's a writer. She can't be bothered with those pesky details!
i doubt a camera is going to project 8 by 12 foot images. 8 by 12 inches would be kinda cool to do with my camera though. the problem for me is, my definition of "good quality" is very different from most companies. nikon now brings you "multi pixel displays"
8 by 12 inches, what else? do you ask the clerk the same question when you get photos developed?
"do you ask the clerk the same question when you get photos developed?"
This isn't a photolab, it's a projector. It's a brave new world, not limited to the old ways of paper processing, understand?
It's also a product on a techblog with a supposedly global audience. An audience that doesn't operate solely on imperial measurements.
If a 'writer' puts up a piece with dimensions, they need to specify units they are referring to, at least in the first mention. If engadget had any sort of editors, they'd know that. Or at least I hope they would.
How about Nikon makes a nice coolpix with a big sensor? How about they start a new line a la Olympus E-P1? How about they come with the fabled MX sensor? How about they update and refresh all the lenses that need it?
Nah, let's make a great projector cam.
The million dollar question:
Why???
Yep. 8x12 of what? meter? Or Inches? Or did the creative Americans come up with yet another confusing way to measure distances?
M.
The Imperial system was created by the british, not the Americans.
Yes, but other than the Americans they realised that measuring is supposed to be informative. So they figured the metric !system! is - well systematic. Do they ditched the Imperial ?System?.
Smart them.
M
The name of the French magazine is being repeated incorrectly... it is "Chasseur d'Images" ("Images" is plural, with an "s").
