Samsung's 'Tap and Take' teaser hints at revolutionary, unicorn-approved Smart Cameras
Samsung sure has been milking this whole "teaser" thing for all it's worth of late, with the newest mystery coming to us in the form of its fresh 'Tap and Take' campaign. From now until August 12th, users can give the read link a visit in order to ingest clues about the outfit's upcoming line of Smart Cameras. These wildly intelligent shooters will purportedly "transform the way consumers take pictures," and they just might provide each and every American with free health care, solve world hunger and put the mighty Hubble to shame. The whole thing will be revealed in full on August 13th, but for now, why not drop a comment below as to what you think will be so revolutionary about the forthcoming point-and-shoot range?

You tap the screen to take a picture instead of holding down a button.
Revolutionary!
humm
I wonder if you can tap with a pair of gloves on :P
Maybe it refers to the time honored tradition...TAP that ass and TAKE a souvenir.
Have a projector? Wait no that Nikon....
Ummm, how about a touch interface where you pinch to zoom. Wait that's apple. I dunno.
Tap and take
Nice.
Sounds like a slogan stolen from a drive-thru beer keg dispensary.
Or when reveresed, the slogan used by any of the pimps in the Las Vegas Nevada area.
I bet you never even been to vegas to know about pimps out there.
I bet if you take a picture of your shoes, it will realize that you meant to take a picture of your face taking a picture of your shoes, and switch to the lens behind the screen that's actually a two-way mirror. Also? Every time you take a picture, it will take take a picture from that secret camera, and send it to Samsung, as "user data" they can "mine."
Maybe you just tap where you want it to focus? Although with P&S I am pretty sure face recognition is pretty much way more useful?
Well, since all the examples on the site have people acting like camwhores and tapping the 'screen' to take a pic, it seems like it's a camera where you can tap the front of it to take a picture of yourself. Wheeeeeeeeee. Maybe there's a live feed to your PC so you can see what you're taking a picture of? Gee, if only there were something like that. But if it works like a hi-res webcam that's not so horrible, though not earthshattering.
Well they succeeded in making a very annoying website.... Congrats.
How to improve Samsung cameras:
Replace the silly proprietary data connector with 3.5mm audio jack and a mini/micro-USB socket.
Bonus points for adding HDMI or mini-displayport on larger/costlier cameras.
I have a feeling it might be something where the camera stays in a standby state and is always ready to take a picture at any moment instead of having to turn the camera on first
I just have a bad feeling.
I'm guessing it'll be used as self-portraits.
You tap your face in the screen, and it'll follow you for focusing.
I think it's that you can tap/bump the camera itself to take a photo and to change modes/settings. For those of us in Canada this is big, as it lets one use a small camera with big gloves on. Generally winter gloves and the small buttons on most digital cameras don't mix well, and nobody likes cold fingers...

I hope it's not one of those "intelligent" system that will decide for you what's the best moment to do the capturing (after your tap, of cause). At least for old-school photographers like me, I want to be responsible for what I am doing.
its a completely touch camera with wifi built in for social sharing and multi touch zoom and focus and turn on and all the goodies and functions are all touch there won't be any buttons on the things just the amoled screen... did no one read all the flying text? it tells you quite clearly what it is...
The floating text was people's guesses
My guess a "always on" camera (agreeing with someone in previous post) a touch focus like the iphone, and some kind of touch zoom. It would be cool if it had geotagging, - but probably doesn't. It would be cooler if it did High Dynamic exposures option and took multiple exposures pictures. It would be even cooler if it all that that and 8 gig of memory built in bluetooth 2.0 to movies and pictures to ANYTHING - but probably doesn't do that either. And it would be the coolest camera ever made ever ever if it did all that AND and 1080p movies too! But probably won't.... just a touch screen to focus and zoom and some kind of always on state.
If it IS "Always On" then it'll be an instant buy for me. God knows how annoying it is to have to spend that long pulling out the phone, unlocking the phone, switching to camera mode, then finally taking the shot 3 hours after the event!
This sounds like Samsung's rip-off of iPhone GS' tap-and-focus idea.
That sounds like Apple's rip-off of Sony's tap-focus-exposure-and-whatnot that has been around before iPhone was even made.
once you tap the camera, it will then transform into a cambot (camera robot) and then take pictures of you while saying "that's it. give me a smile. that's good. good. work it!"
I think the LCD will face forward so you can watch yourself as you tap some a**.
Well, according to the guesses that are floating toward me on the website it is a gay marketing gimmick for sissies from 1985 which you activate with your bell end. I'm guessing someone at Samsung didn't think this teaser site through too well.
buffered "takes" of previous seconds ongoing at variable snap rates. buffer self-empties after preset and any grabs still in buffer can be "tapped and taken." some audio recorders offer this "always on" feature in order not to miss things just prior to hitting record. no reason not to do it with images, what with storage getting faster and more capacious ongoing.
so revolutionary, the marjority rednecks here will pass by
It'll be an iPhone-like system where you tap the screen to choose the focal point.
It's already exist in Samsung p&s cameras
It's like smile detection - but for tap dancers.
It catches them in mid dance.
Makes sure you never take another picture of someone doing a waltz or the soft shoe shuffle.
I'm guessing a compact design, intuitive touch screen interface, Wifi, Bluetooth, and GPS for transferring pictures and files as well as geotagging, and probably too many megapixels for the size of the device. Sound remotely possible?
I found TapandTake Page on Facebook... http://www.facebook.com/tapandtake
Make sure to check out the Photos and Video tabs often because they contain clues about new device
I call the use of augmented reality to be what "revolutionizes" picture taking in Samsung's Tap and Take.
Just tapping the screen and it taking a picture isn't revolutionizing anything. And I deduct 1000 theoretical points from Samsung (not to mention all of my respect) if the big surprise is already evident in the name. No, the technology has to be somewhat revolutionary. And the fact that Twitter is associated with it leads me to think there will be some AR face recognition involved and will automatically tag users in the photo.
My name is Nathan G. and I approve this message.
