Verizon: Touch Diamond, Touch Pro now $99 with contract

Looks like Verizon's up to something (and we're not talking about Sholes). A quick trip over to VZW's site has confirmed that $99 -- and a two-year contract -- will land you just about any smartphone that they offer (one notable exception being the Samsung Saga), including HTC's Touch Pro and Touch Diamond. Could this mean that the new Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 are soon to rear their pretty little heads? We'd be down with that.

right after i got my touch pro...nice verizon...nice
Hope the 2's are better than 2.5 and 3 stars.
WTF Sprint!
You're right. They should always check with Chris before making multi-million dollar moves.
Seriously, Sprint has the Touch Pro for $299 AFTER $100 rebate.
Let's see ... I can drop $99 out the door for Verizon or $400 and hope I get a rebate back through Sprint. That's a pretty steep price to pay.
you've got 30 days after the purchase date to take it back to either get the new price or a new phone.
I still wouldn't get it at $99. As always, Verizon crippled the phone by putting in a crappier/cheaper keyboard, and took out half the RAM.
why would you by the touch pro when they're probably going to have the touch pro 2 in a few months? man the touch pro looks so crappy compare to the tp2
Well you could get the TP and activate the phone insurance and then when the TP2 comes out, have an "accident" while jogging with your TP and switch to the TP2 when the insurance kicks in. That's what wanna do but punk ass AT&T is still charging $350 for the damn thing.
The touch pro and touch pro 2 have the same processor and ram.
The touch pro has led flash which the touch pro 2 doesnt have. also has the sping button thing that the touch pro 2 doesnt have
PS look it up the ram and processor are the same as the touch pro . they arent different.
Also you can put windows mobile 6.5 on the touch pro also.
So it comes down to do yo uwant a bigger screen or an led flash. Besides that no real difference.
@Thunda Chunky
Only way insurance will replace it with the TouchPro2 is if they don't have the TouchPro in stock.
TP2 has the new touchflo 3d that works in landscape mode, TP does not.
TF2 can be installed on the TP as well....
Check out xda-developers or PPCGeeks for more info.
See Im just waiting till like the holiday season when tey offer something like this the pre or a cheap ass refurb iphone for nothing or next to nothing. I got paid to get an instinct and i like that idea... so im going to try it again.
But with a better phone.
what does the tp2 offer over the regular touch?
Bigger screen, more memory (RAM and ROM), TouchFLO 3D2, a cool ass speakerphone feature, a sliding AND tilting screen, and hopefully WinMo 6.5 out the box.
sliding qwerty
for a phone about a year old, thats way too much. especially considering some outlets were giving away their versions of the touch pro and diamond for free on contract.
i just picked up an envtouch for this price... hope it last, since none of m y other verizon phones have, joke of a company
Its TOTALLY Verizon's fault you can't take care of a phone that they don't even manufacture. Seriously, it really is.
I was gonna say the same thing!!
While its commendable for Verizon to show the REAL ratings why would anyone buy a phone that's got a 2.5 star rating?
The touch pro and touch pro 2 have the same processor and ram.
The touch pro has led flash which the touch pro 2 doesnt have. also has the sping button thing that the touch pro 2 doesnt have
PS look it up the ram and processor are the same as the touch pro . they arent different.
Also you can put windows mobile 6.5 on the touch pro also.
So it comes down to do yo uwant a bigger screen or an led flash. Besides that no real difference.
The Verizon Touch Pro (I believe it's called the RAPH500, as opposed to the RAPH800 for every other CDMA version) has half the RAM of the other models. So, the TP2 will have twice the RAM that the Verizon TP has.
Wait for september....vzw will probably roll out new phones in September.
What ever you do dont get the touch pro I have had seven of them so far. They are pure junk I would not take this phone again if it was free and I paid $299.00 for it. save yourself the hassel wait for the TP2 if and when it comes out
I have a touch pro. It's great. I have mightyrom with windows mobile 6.5 installed. Battery lasts more than a day with heavy use (if you don't leave things running in the background all the time) and i use it as my main media player as well (streaming and local music)
Windows Mobile phones are unfortunartely not for everyone, but they're highly customizeable and great if you're not an idiot
do you have sprint or verizon. the ssk roms are better for verizon touch pro
not suprised. i just sold my touch pro and bough an iphone. best decision i have ever made.
You must lead a sad life...
Who on this earth would want either phone, even for free? (forget that new versions are coming out soon) -- the Touch Pro was / is HORRIBLE!
I would pull the trigger and buy the touch pro over the diamond because of the qwerty keyboard but I dunno if it's a good enough phone.
Am I correct in thinking you MUST get a data plan to get this either phone?
you don't need a data plan to buy the phone. but...why the heck would you get this phone if you are not going to get a data plan?
without a data plan, this phone is more junk than it already is. Trust me, I used to own one. It's not as bad as some people say, but there are much better options ;D
I was under the impression that you had to get a data plan on all phones that came out after sometime in november of 2008.
hexon is correct, a data plan is required to purchase and activate this on VZW.
That being said..... don't. Just wait a month for a TP2. And pray they didn't cripple it by cutting the ram in half.
There is also the fact that Verizon's version of the Touch Pro is crippled compared to everyone else's. Worse keyboard and half the RAM, IIRC...
These are both great phones. Get a cooked 6.5 ROM and you have a wonderful device. Now if only Sprint would follow suit.
good phones
Sprint is bad about never dropping their phone prices despite the length of time on market.
Conversely, Verizon is terrible about getting new phones and phone technology first or even second.
YESSSS!!!!!
I just sold my touch pro for $240, like a week ago. Clutch timing, eh?
btw: now i am a happy pre owner! wm ftl.
Verizon's Touch Pro is complete garbage. They gimped this phone with barely enough ram to function. Don't buy it. You will be disappointed at the $99.00 price.
Agreed. Wait for the TP2. Superior to the VZW TP in every way. I'm using a Sprint Touch Pro hacked onto Verizon's network rather than deal with their crippled Touch Pro. Good luck running WM6.5 with Rhodium Manila and a decently sized pagepool on the VZW Touch Pro.
If you constantly depend on user reviews as a way of deciding a gadget (or any product) is good or not, think again.
You need to factor in the quality of these user (and sometimes expert) reviews. I don't place my decision on users reviews, because I've noticed a lot of factors like:
1. Silly cruddy reviews - I've seen 1-star reviews given because of the company that made the product, they just didn't like its appearance, it didn't have a special feature they were looking for, etc. 5-star reviews have been given because of the user's loyalty to the company's products, they were given it for free, they were 'paid' to, etc. A lot of users have biases in these reviews, or they give paltry information that doesn't support their rating enough.
2. A one time incident - Ratings can be affected because one or a couple of users had a rare defect in their products, or they damaged it on their own (not thinking of this), and attributed bad ratings to the product. Or someone who purchased a used product, discovered some issues that weren't the same when it was new. At the same time, the people with the 5-star ratings may be the lucky ones who haven't had the issue reported on many devices. So ratings can be mixed up in this way.
3. People not familiar with a type of product - Sometimes people don't know that ALL refrigerators do something they don't like, or are confused with interacting with the display and not reading the manual. Maybe a product has a certain feature, but because the owner can't find it or doesn't know of it, he gives the rating a bad one. Ignorance in a certain product that someone isn't common with, is a common problem with reviews.
There's like a bunch of other reasons why decisions shouldn't be based on reviews alone. Honestly, just read the features it has, see if you can try it out on a display at a retail store (which hopefully works right on the display), and hope you're lucky that nothing bad will happen to it when if you have purchased it. I think people should look at reviews as an indicator of what you might expect of a product, but not something you should guarantee will happen if you purchase it.
3 stars? ouch its not even worth that. Horrible devices
VZW wants everyone on their data plan -- throw people a cheap smartphone and gig them on a grossly overpriced data/text plan.
Until data prices come down, they can keep the phone!
i would just get the diamond
its slimmer and nicer
