actually 0.1 refers to 10.5->10.6 so 10.5.1 is 0.0.1 more than 10.5. That being said, i have never seen mac os x go over 0.0.11 Suffice it to say that 0.0.8 is close to 0.1
Issues with bluetooth reliability? The only reliability issue they're trying to address is the fact that my computer reliably connects with my iPhone for the purpose of data tethering.
You know it's really crazy to me how people are still fighting about what is better, a Mac or a Pc. Really, how old are you people? Use what fits you best and move on. I used PCs strictly since I was about 10 years old, I'm now 32. I was anti-Mac, why? I don't even know. I would say shit like, "Macs are over priced unfriendly machines" and "You're paying for a name". Well after so many years of having to deal with Windows I finally had enough. I bought a Macbook, the lowest end one at the time for a total of around 1400 bucks. Expensive? Yeah for sure. What did I end up paying for? So far 3 years of absolutely no problems. The machine has crashed on me a total of 2 times. My girls 4 month old dell that she paid 800 bucks for always has something going on with it. If my Mac died today I would be fine with it. Fuck it, if paying an extra 500 bucks has bought me piece of mind, I'll take it. And I'll be buying another Mac when the day comes.
The big question is what does your girl click on? Everything she sees on the Internet? What people don't realize is generally brand does not matter, Dell, HP, even Apple - it's all basically the same hardware. It comes down to the user. Not to put down your girl or anything, but it honestly does. There's nothing wrong with the hardware, it's all just crap she's, most likely, accidently downloaded.
There isn't as much crap out there to infect a Mac, that's why you click on things and nothing happens. Learn some basic protection for your PC and you're good to go. Sure, you can give me the argument "well I have a Mac and didn't have to learn anything so it's better ha". That's great for now, but let's say Mac gets a bigger market share, do you really think that's going to hold up?
Microsoft has dealt with a great deal of crap over the years, and they know how to deal with it well. Microsoft knows how to fix security holes quickly, it knows how to address it and fix. On the other hand, Apple has not learned this trick. They haven't needed to, but that's not to say they won't, and if they haven't by the time they need to - well then I'll bet everybody Mac comes running back to PC.
And no, I'm not arguing Mac or PC, I'm just saying it like it is.
Hopefully this should be able to fix my macbook airport problem! Finally a lot of complaining is worth it.
My airport always worked fine, since this update I can only get online by tethering my iphone to the MBP, my non-updated MB is working just fine. Any tips? Anyone?
Thanks,
Mark
Damn, and people complain about Microsoft having a lot of updates. Another service pack already? I feel like I just got 10.5.7 working.
I had an update for OS X Tiger today, some security update for the powerPC architecture, I have looked around but found no information on it, even on the apple website :/
Look What I found everybody.

Look Familiar? haha I hate apple. No more PPC support, and iLife '09 not fully supported with the old iBook, Got to love those Nazi's at Apple when it comes to bang for you buck and PC longevity. I almost feel like downgrading my OS to tiger to get more responsiveness out of that iBook. I only use it to basically use the internet and chat when I'll killing time on the road and its buggy and slow like molasses on a thursday.
right, Nazi's = rapid progress...
so MS are the liberators who drag 1980's legacy tech kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
Got it.
Is the sky blue in your world?
OK, I know you're just being the obvious troll, but meh, what the hell...
Have you tried upgrading your RAM? Doing some preventative maintenance (install Combo Update, verify disk, repair disk permissions? How full is your hard disk? How old is it? Maybe time to upgrade? Since the first was released in 1999, last was discontinued in 2006, yours is anywhere from 3-10 years old. If it's 5 or more years old, might be time to upgrade to new hardware if you insist on running the latest software. I guarantee you a low end PC notebook of the same age with similar specs would fare far worse running Windows Vista or even XP.
I'm running Mac OS X Server 10.5.8 on a PowerMac G4 which is 9 years old and while I don't use it for iLife, it still performs really well with 1GB of RAM.
Oh, and here's a little secret: Your computer will continue to do everything it could always do with whatever software you're running on it even after Apple stops releasing OS updates for PowerPC. PC users have been using XP since 2000, so you really shouldn't complain you're still running Leopard until around 2016, or 9 years after it's been released, if you're still using your iBook by then. Until then, you're still ahead of the majority of Windows users still stuck using XP, a 9 year old OS.
@Mike
the sky and his computer screen. zing!
Updated all four Macs at home (in 4 different rooms) from the comfort of my desk via ssh from one locally logged in MacBook. All updates were installed with zero issues in less time than it would have taken me to do one of my monthly Windows XP software update marathons.
"sudo softwareupdate -i -a" is my friend.
Oh, and for those of you who have somehow managed to fsck up your Macs, may I suggest you try installing the latest Combo update and maybe once or twice a year run Disk Utility to verify the disk and repair disk permissions. A good time is right before OS X version updates. An ounce of prevention...
It just works my ass. Apple may be a media darling, but their products are overpriced and glossy turds. I switched to Windows 7 and ain't looking back at my little Mac experiment. It was cute while lasted, but Apple is a million times more evil and controlling than Microsoft ever was. It’s like having big brother watch over you. The fanboys are just brainwashed losers. Real freedom is Windows 7 with a gadzillion hardware choices.
Ohhh man, I think this update kinda screwed up my WoW time with lag in Ulduar, and Wintergrasp, or maybe its just the 3.2 patch?
either ways this lag sucks on 25man raids.
Just as an FYI to the idiots that turn up on any article about Snow Leopard and says something along the lines of "it's just a Service Pack that you have to pay for lolololololololol", THIS is what a Mac Service Pack looks like. It's a software update that fixes multiple issues and rolls up any other updates released since the last "service pack". If you download the Combo Updater then you get everything since the retail release of your OS, although needless to say that the Combo Updater is a whopper download.
And they still haven't fixed the display options with Mac Mini's and TV /HDMI set up which was broken by 10.5.7!
Way to go Apple… thanks for your time.
Blogsmith needs an update o Engadgets commenting system..
REMEMBER ME!!!!!
"...horrible weakness in the your own software catalogue'."
To be honest, the only weakness in "their own software catalogue" is their lack of game support, and even then it's not their fault. Soon enough you'll be telling us that Macs don't have right-click.
Just remember that Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop were first on a Mac, Windows was coded on a Mac, and Apple were the first comany to sucessfully market the Mouse as an input device. Instead of calling it "abandoning" PPC hardware, I call it progress.
ATTENTION OWNERS OF EVGA GTX 285 FOR MAC!!!!!!
You must install the latest driver for this card before installing this OS X update otherwise it will cause a kernel panic and gray screen on restart. The only way that I could resolve this was to reinstall my factory card as the computer would not boot even in safe mode. The latest driver is available from EVGA's website and specifically addresses this issue.
Just wanted to share as this is an issue related to this OS X update.
@Mark Anderson
Because abandoning PPC for Intel had nothing to do with the piss poor performance per watt of PPC, in a world where the vast majority of Apple's Mac sales are notebooks. Surely. Nothing.
"I can give you a shovel if you want to keep digging."
"Sure. That's why you appear to have been buried with the low ranking spade."
Your arguments have left me completely speechless. How old are you?
Why does every Apple post lead to a bitch-fest? Just shut up, people.
I know what I'm doing when I get home :)
BLUE iDISK!
it stopped my macbook from freezing when i put it on standby!!!! whoop whoop!!!! :-D
hello, i'm 17 and i'm not computer savvy at all, but i installed the update a few hours ago, and odd things have been happening. first, my battery had stopped charging and i've already ordered a new one since i was told by the apple store that my battery was depleted and uncovered by warranty. but when i installed the update, my battery started chargin again. however, my microsoft office programs are "quitting unexpectedly" upon launch, the macbook start-up time is really really slow. however, i also cloned and upgraded my hard drive what i thought succesfully today, so is that part of it? seems like a perfect storm, and i don't like it at all.
macbook white, late 2006, 1.83 ghz,4 gb ram, 250 gb hdd.
thanks
Did anybody start having problems trying to Update to Time Capsule using wireless right after installing updates?
YES 10.5.8 finally fixed my wifi problem! And all this time I kept on blaming my Netgear router for its ineptitude.
