Logitech replaces G5 with Gaming Mouse G500, throws Gaming Headset G330 in for luck

The Gear That Gets You There: Logitech Serves Up New G-Series Gaming-Grade Mouse, Headset
Logitech Gaming Mouse G500 Refreshes Popular Logitech G5 Laser Mouse with Latest Gaming-Grade Laser Engine, Logitech Gaming Headset G330 Delivers Comfort That Won't Quit
FREMONT, Calif. - Aug. 6, 2009 - When there's sweat on your brow, and it's way too late to turn back, it's time to choose wisely. To help you make the right choice when victory is on the line, Logitech (SIX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI) today unveiled extensions to its award-winning G-series line of gaming peripherals: the Logitech® Gaming Mouse G500 and the Logitech® Gaming Headset G330. The Gaming Mouse G500 refreshes the popular Logitech® G5 Laser Mouse with the latest gaming-grade laser engine and a battle-worn appearance, while the Gaming Headset G330 delivers comfort that won't quit – even after long hours of battle.
"As more and more people make gaming in the living room with family and friends the new night out, Logitech continues to push the envelope with the Logitech G-series." said Ruben Mookerjee, Logitech's director of product marketing for gaming. "If you're getting serious about gaming – or have already seen the light – then the best way to dive ever deeper into the game is by putting the G500 mouse in your good hand and the G330 headset on your head. Victory is up to you."
For gamers, especially the more than 11 million people playing World of Warcraft® or the millions on a tour of Call of Duty®, the Gaming Mouse G500 and the Gaming Headset G330 help ensure that every late-night gaming session is victorious.
Logitech Gaming Mouse G500
The successor to the classic Logitech® G5 Laser Mouse, the Logitech Gaming Mouse G500 delivers game-changing precision at any hand speed. With its gaming-grade laser engine you can rev up your intensity – reaching a maximum hand speed of 165 inches per second (ips) and a maximum acceleration force of 30 gs. An on-the-fly adjustable-dpi gives you the right level of precision – from pixel-precise targeting (200 dpi) to lightning-fast maneuvers (up to 5700 dpi) – for whatever game you're playing. (The dpi can be adjusted, after installing the Logitech® Gaming Software, in increments of 100 dpi). Plus, full-speed USB helps ensure that the G500 mouse is smooth and responsive.
But the G500 mouse offers much more than precision. A rugged finish offers a battle-worn accent to your gear. And an updated shape – with a broader thumb rest and a smoothed-out pinkie ledge – makes the new Logitech gaming mouse more comfortable when you're in the heat of competition.
When you're ready to battle, the onboard memory lets you save and take the settings for your favorite title with you – no software required. If you're sensitive to weight, the G500 mouse offers weight tuning, including up to 27 grams of extra weight for personalized feel and control. The additional weights fit into a removable chassis and, when not in use, can be stored in the accompanying case. A dual-mode scroll wheel – with hyper-fast scrolling for those times that you have to work – provides click-to-click scrolling that's perfect for weapon selection. And ten programmable buttons put valuable macros in your hand.
Logitech Gaming Headset G330
Even when gaming casualties are heavy, your Logitech Gaming Headset G330 isn't. The lightweight G330 headset combats fatigue with its adjustable, behind-the-head design – the first of its kind for gaming headsets – that slides for a personalized fit. To further relieve common pressure points on your head, the G330 headset features a soft silicone-lined headband and pivoting ear pads. And with durable steel spring at its core, the flexible headband is designed to withstand the wear and tear of furious battle.
A noise-canceling microphone reduces annoying background noise and rotates out of the way when you're not using it. The in-line audio controls let you adjust the volume or mute the microphone without pausing the action. An included USB adapter lets you choose to connect digitally to any USB port for enhanced audio or directly to your PC sound card via 3.5 mm jacks.
Pricing and Availability
The Logitech Gaming Mouse G500 is expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe in September for a suggested retail price of $69.99 (U.S.). The Logitech Gaming Headset G330 is expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe in August for a suggested retail price of $49.99 (U.S.).

Hi Darren. (mwuaha)
Nothing beats microsofts BlueTek mice.
Except a classic G5 :) I've never held much esteem to the microsoft "gaming mice" let alone their new blue mice, using one for the first time last week. For many reasons, I still hold these G series mice in high esteem, they just feel right and work right when you want them too. Unless they come up with a better sidewinder mouse from MS, then Ill stick with logitech. Sorry
The G7 was always a better mouse anyway.
I'm surprised they stopped, some of my friends have multiple it has been in production so long.
The G5 v2 in blue was the best mouse period. Now I hope they didn't botch this G500.
A4 Tech 750BF with 3x rapid fire button FTW!!!
Sweet, they finally fixed the "cut your finger in half" pointy scroll wheel of the G5.
I love my G5s. The only way they could have made it better was to add the smooth scroll wheel from the MX revolution, which is basically what they've done here. Perfection.
"smoothed-out pinkie ledge"
Nice Touch.Very Considerate.
microsoft's mice and keyboards are JUNK!!!! i say it one more time JUNK THEY ARE JUNK!!!!! Logitech has the right idea!!! And they sure no how to please TRUE GAMERS!!! Just haveto fork out the cash to own a piece of great engineering!!!! So more power to logitech!!!!
Razer kicks logitechs ass anyday
No. Razer is not that bad but it's nothing compared to logitech.
Also, razer's advertising is annoying as hell and aimed toward wannabe pro gamer kids.
Silent. Deadly. Vicious. New Razer Mamba.
And what's with lame names? They sound all but cool. At least for someone who's over 14 years old. Mamba. Lachesis. Mantis. Rofl.
I mean... come on?
Logitech never advertised its gaming grade mice and other stuff. Why? Because they don't need to.
Everyone knows that they're the best.
Logitech makes better mice. But keyboard wise Microsoft is much better.
@ Malweran
This could be the first Logitech mouse I take as a serious replacement for my gaming mice and here's why...
I've used Razer mice ever since the Boomslang 2000 (The original one that cost $100). From the time that mouse came out I have been through 5 Razer mice (2 Boomslangs and 3 Copperheads, each replaced under warranty) ONLY because each mouse stopped working. Note these were all used on my desktop and not betten up.
Now go back 3-4 years when I purchased a Logitech MX-518 for my laptop. It's still just as good as when I first bought it and it has had the crap beat out of it by sitting in my laptop backpack. If this G500 is anywhere near what my MX-518 is, then I am sold.
@Defiler
You're definitely right but at the moment the Razer Deathadder is a pretty mouse atm, too bad Razer's firmware sucks like hell! Logitech FTW!
Crap, I wanted a G5, this one looks worse :(
You can still get regular G5's at newegg.com among other sites. Don't fret
Maybe this one will have microswitches that last more than 20 minutes before breaking.
That's not my experience with logitech mice, sure each model has its flaws but the switches giving out is a new one to my ears.
But it's possible they now started using lousy switches recently though, they do weird things so perhaps you do have a real complaint, no idea.
Heck, I STILL appreciate my G5.
Finally, another side button! I can't believe my G5 only came with one :-(
The second revision of the G5 had two buttons, which is what I'm using :)
Yeah I have the first one with only one side button and the revised one with two side buttons and a improved click on the mouse wheel.
Damn designs for right handed people!
Sexy headphones! If only they were the bigger type of headphone thingy whatever that covers you ears.
The mouse still looks almost identical to the G5. I really don't like the position of + and - buttons right on the left mouse button. Bad decision!
Great another mouse...
Ugh. I actually emailed Logitech a while back requesting a new three button mouse. Ever since mice started coming with scroll wheels they've dropped the third button and I don't see how they can make something that's supposed to be for gaming that is so limited.
Creative made an effort a while back, and the mouse was comfortable, but the buttons didn't work right - there were spurious double clicking problems - and the thing was Fatal1ty branded. Which... well, you know.
Logitech had MX1000 had 3 side buttons. Then Logitech clamed that everyone complained that it was overly complicated and created confusion, so they released G5 with one side button. :) Later they finaly saw the light and released a Revision 2 of G5 with two side buttons, still not sure if we'll ever see them releasing a three side button mouse again. :(
I'd be all over this mouse if I didn't already own the Logitech G5 Rev 2.
Still love the shape of my G9. Except I hope Logitech have figured out how to stop the frictionless scroll wheel from going stiff from filling full of sh**. It is a common warranty problem. I guess they never thought of a way to clean it.
How about you wash your grubby hands before using your computer? gross.
I bet nothing beats the ROCCAT Kone Gaming Mouse.. yet!
http://gadgets.softpedia.com/news/Roccat-Kone-Gaming-Mouse-Review-1411-01.html
On close look up, materials and buttons look cheap. Never even heard of this brand. Even if it was decent, ill still trust that works, and proabably works better, G5 Rev. 2.
Plenty reviews tell otherwise though..
This should be the top of gaming mice!
I've had my eye on this since they started talking about it. Do they sell it in the states?
@Defiler They should be.. next to that happily internet is pretty cross border ;)
But somebody asked the Roccat-boys by mail and they did confirm something:

Beware the braded cords...
They'll rip, they'll catch on edges, they'll be inflexible...
As someone who has found all wireless mice tested not good enough, the only thing I don't like about wired mice is thick, heavy, inflexible cords
Logitech has yet to make a mouse with a decent cord.
The G7 was a perfect wireless mouse (g5 but feels smoother) EXCEPT for the fact that it interferes with wireless N cards =( but if you don't use one then its perfect
I'm still fond of my MX1000.. though i'm glad to see they've returned to multiple thumb buttons! (3 buttons... great as a Use button, special grenade and frags!). Tho bring back the adjacent wheel buttons logitech and i may upgrade!!!
If the previous mouse was the G5 and this is the G500, does that make it one hundred times as good?
Well... I still prefer my MX518. Habe bought the G5 like 1.5yrs ago or so... but in the end I just switched back to the slightly more dated MX518. I dunno why exactly, but I still consider it the best gaming mouse around (and good for Office etc as well), and for about 20 bucks one of the cheapest.
Mmmmmm, would this really topple the Razer Deathadder the choice of gaming professionals.... What should I get? Help?
Go to a store that would have em on display and get a feel for them. Performance wise the Logitech would have a advantage since its laser tracking and not IR tracking, but both are good enough. Price is the same too, so really its up to the feel of it.
Darn it, and I just bought the MX518 last week.
lol
Respect. From a Deathadder owner.
I'm more excited about the headset than I am the mouse. My MX518 still works perfectly for me, but I've been waiting for a good behind-the-head gaming USB headset.
Personally I hate behind-the-head headsets, because they actually become painful (Being a constant wearer of glasses doesn't help) so the combination of the headset and the glasses can actually become very sore.
Creative Fatal1ty Headset
I agree wearing glasses makes all headsets a nightmare, go in-ear headphones! BTW its MAMBA FTW lol.
I just bought the G5 a couple of weeks ago with $15 rebate.
The mouse is the best I've ever used, which is not saying much.
My only grip with it is that the right button is a bit loose.
My middle finger keeps accidentally hitting it. I've since trained my middle finger to rest on the edge of the mouse.
