Sony's Party-shot dock snaps incriminating Facebook photos while you drink
As if your Facebook profile doesn't have enough hard evidence that you're completely unfit for any job you might strike up the courage to apply for, here's a thoughtful accessory for producing even more regret-inducing snapshots. Launched tonight alongside Sony's DSC-WX1 and DSC-TX1 Cyber-shot digicams, the $150 IPT-DS1 Party-shot (ships in September) is a newfangled camera dock that pans 360 degrees and tilts 24 degrees, automatically detects faces, adjusts composition and takes photos for you. It's like the GigaPan, sans the whole "useful panorama" aspect. The dock can churn for up to 11 hours on a pair of AA batteries (an optional AC adapter is also available), though at least for now, it only works with the aforesaid TX1 and WX1 models. Also of note, anyone with half an ounce of dignity will likely freak out and leave upon seeing this set up at your next shindig. Just sayin'.

so it doesn't upload them automatically
You could likely fashion something with an Eye-Fi card?
This'll be fun at swingers' parties!
I find the image of this robotic photographer in action freaking hilarious.
or should I say "thought"
That is up to the point were the robots starts shooting lasers instead of pictures....
It's a nice idea, but it's useless if it only works with Sony's shitty cameras.
I dont think so - Nikon do not make their sensor / Canon is some what similar
@basshunter - Not only does it not work with non-Sony cameras, it only works specifically with the Sony WX1 and TX1.
This is a joke...
Hey this ain't a joke... Its coming...
I just read this drunk and got very scared.
Off topic: +1 for sober proofreaders.
dis aint dat sweetz.
Hahaha! Well written article, you made me laugh! Thanks
Upskirt fans will be v. happy.
but there is the face recognition that is useless... SONY give us the boobs recognition!
Didn't they have something like this for film cameras years ago? Sounds so familiar but I can't quite place it...
This has great potential, but I don't see it being that good unless it gets moved around or put in a very central location as it's just going to be taking all the photo's from one spot.
I took photo's at a party (friends used the camera at times and took some when I was a bit too tipsy) on the w/e and they were from all over the place (from different angles and all that) which is why there was enough variety to upload 260ish of them.
With this you might get 20 photos as people move around the camera...
If the Tripod Dock thing was cheap, and hackable, it would make a cool PTZ mount if you had one of these cams already. Or keep it rotating and hook it up with an EyeFI card and you'd have yourself a decent security camera.
Very cool........
I think this is really cool too.. facial or smile recognition never interested me much, but if you put it on a robot tripod and have it automatically shoot pix, it's going to be awesome.
Trust me you'd want this on ever party. Of course somebody will pour beer over it at some point so keeping it safe is a bit of a concern.
The Sony Chicka Chicka Bow Wow camera...
The greatest benefit of Facebook is that it has many groups on the site that you can join. So if you are interested in Chicago Cubs you can research Chicago Cubs in the groups section and you will be able to find friends on there that like the Cubs. This is just one example, I know that you can join groups of your favorite football team, television show, or whatever you want for the most part! If you can't find a group for your interest, you can simply create one!

I'm sorry, i didn't realise everyone had the need for a DSLR camera with interchangeable lenses that costs hudreds of pounds.
Argh.. last comment @ The "i"
Funny how you updated that saying to reflect the findings of mythbusters.
That one was also the the i, is this some bug that you can't respond to someone using "" in their name or something? Or is it something else.
Yeah... this thing pisses me off. I already have a hard enough time keeping scandalous photos of myself off of Facebook...
If it detects faces and snaps shots whenever someone enters into the vicinity it could make a nice security cam. Or at least you can catch your roommate stealing the last beer.
My first thought:
