Windows 7 RTM released to TechNet and MSDN
Here we go -- as planned, Microsoft's just released the Windows 7 RTM build to TechNet and MSDN subscribers. Selected beta testers will also get access, but you'll have to promise to be Microsoft's best friend. As for the rest of us, well, October 22 isn't so far away, and the RC build is still available. That's something, right?

It sucks I have to wait for my bundled version to show up from Intel. How many keys can you get if you have access to this?
not sure - i think volume licence customers have a key that allows installation on up to 10 machines
Its not on the IEEE msdn :(
Yeah I have IEEE MSDNAA and an account from the school but no windows 7 RTM on either. I have a feeling we won't be getting it for a week or so.
MSDNAA doesn't get until October.
aye, I have the IEEE MSDNAA and it's also not on there yet either....wonder when we'll see it?
Not till October huh?? Well damn. That just sucks. At least we still get it for free.
I'm an MSDN AA admin, and it's not up for us yet. I haven't heard definitively from Microsoft when we'll get it either.
MSDN Designer AA and Developer AA levels both have it. I think that's most everyone except for the high schoolers. As for IEEE, I'm going to assume that someone there has the "real" access (i.e., access to the Subscriber Downloads section at msdn.microsoft.com) and they make software available to you by some other means (like the ELMS system). Anyway, if they are equivalent to Developer (as would make sense), you should see it as soon as someone there downloads and makes it available to you. Otherwise, well, who knows.
So do we have any official checksums now?
Oh I just stumbled across them by accident. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/securedownloads/default.aspx?PV=36%3a350%3aDVD%3aen%3ax64
Downloading now, got ALL my keys! All systems go!
final build numbers for this date?
Not too sure if it's changed since the RTM torrent I downloaded but I have 7600 16385. Averaged 800k down on it too! No key but you can replace a couple of files (not telling, google it) so it accepts beta keys. Of course the downside of this is that it still expires in March 2010 and will also re add the watermark to the desktop. I removed the watermark as it is annoying however I will not 'crack' the timebomb; I'll probably wait for it to run out and then buy 7 and upgrade over it or maybe do a clean install if I'm feeling like it. As for netbooks and such, despite it only being an evaluation copy I installed it over the fresh copy of XP preloaded on my new netbook in a heartbeat. 7 really does kick ass even on the lowly Atom N270. 1GB ram too and It'll happily run everything I need simultaneously (office, live mail, ff, foobar2k etc)
Just thought if this is indeed the 7600 16385 build thats been floating around on torrent sites for a week or so would you not be better off downloading it there? I averaged 800kb/s down on the 32 bit build torrent and that was when the torrent was 3 days old.
U got a link for the torrent?
I have my Ultimate key and the ISO downloaded from Tech Net already. Just finishing up some backups in my Linux partition before updating from 7100 to the full version.
I'm really confused by people referring to Snow Leopard as a Service pack, yet Windows 7 is version 6.1 to Vista's 6.0. By that same logic does 7 not become a service pack too?
Thats only really said in response to apple fanboys who claim windows 7 is only a service pack to vista. Which Both operating systems windows 7 and snow leopard are similiar so one shouldnt bash the other.
Agreed - I have a Mac at home and am looking forward to the Snow Leopard upgrade as well.
The first laptop I put the RC of 7 on I wasn't terribly impressed. The second laptop - wow, what a difference (hardware upgrades ftw). Right now I am pretty impressed with 7. I use Ubuntu, 7, and Mac OS X on a daily basis now and it would be difficult to pick one I'd prefer to use now as they all have their strengths and weaknesses, but 7 is by far a vast improvement over Vista. Kudos to Microsoft for doing this one right.
Can someone please tell me the name of the picture on the left side of the story image (1/2 covered by the browser)? I've been trying to find that for a while now.
The best of the best OS.
Hmmm just installed x86 Ultimate for my laptop + the taskbar 'buttons' seem to be just single level thing and nothing like Beta/RC1 on my main machine? I can't see it being resolution. 1280 x 720
Any ideas or has MS gone from great to vista poor in RTM version :(
As far as I can tell, your graphics drivers are not up to date, which is why Aero is disabled. You need to install the latest drivers (or do a windows update).
http://i26.tinypic.com/200g2h1.png - That. I hope I'm just being a noob :D
God sake its aero - forgot :D seems strange thou as it worked previously on RC1 out of the box. Have to download new drivers pfft
I've got 9 keys for ultimate and 10 for every other edition. BizSpark FTW!!
that's soooo cool. wow. unbelievable.
chkdsk /r
...system crashes
No WONDER the download is slow, I thought it hit MSDN/TechNET earlier this week.
My download of Ultimate 64bit is taking ForEver, around 100KB/s, usually I FLY on downloads from there. Even my keygen on there took forever to gen me 5 keys
Guess I will just keep the rest of the ISOs in the queue and wait a few days for them, the one I really wanted first was 7ultimate64 anyway :)
I can wait until October. Certainly I won't get the time of day from our IT department to setup the connection to the office Active Directory until the OS is officially released so there is no point for me in getting it any sooner.
just finish trying it out for an hour or 2. To me it was noticeably snappier than my RC1 build, granted it is now on the outside of the hard drive. The invisible 100MB partition is a bit odd to me, I hadn't seen any references to it before, but I'm not missing the 100MB.
I had horrible download speeds until I went to the "top downloads" page and downloaded it from the 3rd party source. I then got ~4.5 Mbit as opposed to the previous 1.5 Mbit. I didn't check the build number, and I just broke down my system to move it to college tomorrow, will post the build if anyone is interested.
Install handled roughly the same as vista, just branded 7 instead. It was a bit smoother though.
I had 4 updates to install after I got everything up and running. 2 critical, 2 optional. 1 optional (graphics drivers) was being picky and refused to install... whatever.
So far haven't had any problems with it, not that I've done anything intensive other than experience index benchmark. tomorrow I'll do some more serious stuff to it.
I'll take W7, but not sure it can live up to the hype beyond sleek interface!

"I'm really confused by people referring to Snow Leopard as a Service pack, yet Windows 7 is version 6.1 to Vista's 6.0. By that same logic does 7 not become a service pack too?"
That is so programs think 7 is Vista, so that they run properly, and 7's architecture is very similar to Vista and version number is the only barrier.
Also.... If anyone can tell me where Engadget got that picture of the left of the screenshot I will be very happy- please email me at louistouch@googlemail.com if you know!

where can I get that wallpaper from??
@ The Windows 7 haters:
I switched from a Mac to a PC. I had everything from the ancient all-in-one Macintosh SE (System 7, I believe) to my most recent Powerbook G4 (That came with OS9 and OSX). I used Macs because I have always used them. I recently built a PC and loaded the Windows 7 RC on it. I never looked back. I feel less restricted in every aspect of my machine. The software and hardware knows no bounds. That is why I love Windows 7 over Leopard. Many people who switch to OSX from Windows are not tech savvy. They see a pretty face and they immediately have to have it, for example, the new Macbooks. I asked my girlfriend, "Why did you get a Mac, when a Windows notebook is less than half the price?" Her reply: "I don't know, It's pretty."
