Garmin-Asus nuvifone finally coming to America in Q4 (or so they say)
With Garmin-Asus' nüvifone G60 already on sale in Asia, it makes sense to hear that said smartphone will soon make its way over to North American soil. Of course, it also made sense to think that this thing would be launching on AT&T about forever and a day ago, so we're not holding our collective breath just yet. At any rate, Garmin recently made abundantly clear on a quarter-end conference call that the GPS-infused handset is in the final testing stages with an undisclosed amount of US carriers, and if all goes well, it'll hit the streets in Q4. What's crazy is that every last specification remains unchanged from when it was announced back in January of 2008; meanwhile, Apple has shipped two new iterations of its iPhone, Android has blown up significantly and even Motorola and Palm have seemingly resurrected themselves from the grave. Knowing all that, will anyone even bother to show up to snag one in "just a few months?"

all i have to say is..not many people are going to buy it.why would i buy this instead of a iPhone(signal issues don't count, battery either!)
Actually I would have bought this if not for the palm pre coming out.. I love love LOVE my garmin GPS and was dying to get this phone, oh.....about a year ago!! It makes me furious that it took asus-garmin this long to drop this phone, and it has cost them my business
That things gonna have one HELL of a speakerphone, plus GPS? Sign my mom up!
*cricket*
England are currently 39 for 3 and doing very badly. I'd say "thanks for asking" but the news just depresses me.
It would be good as a back up, and if its cheap enough (which I doubt) and available from a carrier and is not some small town rural one, perhaps. But, not with At&t. As they suck.
But since this seems to lack Tmobiles 3G band, it is inevitable that it will be coming to att, or some minor carrier elsewhere.
My LG Incite doesnt have a problem running Garmin Mobile XT. For free.
$10 says it's a great GPS device and a mediocre (at best) phone. They never learn, do they?
Remind me never to hire the product manager who came up with this idea. He obviously didn't do his homework and realize what would make the most strategic sense for Garmin.
They should have killed this project a long time ago and simply developed great apps for Blackberry/iPhone/Android/Pre.
I don't know, HTC seems to keep issuing the same HW from Jan '08(QC 528MHz, HVGA screens) and people keep getting interested.
nuvifone??????..............more like noobifone!!!! hahaha, im sorry guys.i had to do it, it was too tempting...lmao
People the Nuvifone has true GPS!!! It navigates via satellite for free, not to mention more reliable and accurate. Which means when your iPhone loses service and your relying on it to navigate your screwed. This is an outdoor enthusiasts dream device!!!! I just wish they would market it that way. Imagine carrying one device instead of three while your biking, hiking, climbing, camping, skiing etc. Granted the camera probably isn't the greatest but I say go for it. I am the niche Garmin needs to market to. As far as the wait goes ya it sucks, but Garmin is famous for putting out high quality kink free devices. Better to release a flawless device than a ford pinto just to be on time.
