AT&T's upcoming handsets include BlackBerry 9700, Garmin-Asus nuvifone G60
This "pre-launch" list of upcoming AT&T phones leaked out today, and it's pretty interesting -- in addition to the BlackBerry 9700, it also features the illusory Garmin-Asus nüvifone G60, which finally looks like it'll be coming to the US just a short 18 months after first being announced. Other notables include the HTC Tilt 2 and something called the HTC Pure, which Boy Genius Report says may be a variant of the Snap. No Android or webOS on this list, sadly, but hey -- the nüvifone is coming. Can you feel the excitement?

I really wish ATT would get a phone running Android so people actually have a choice. That would be a first...
my final warning to engadget posters regarding the post above: low rank it, and move the fuck on. nothing worse than having to scroll past a hundred angry responses while trying to find informative posts in the thread.
Are you saying AT&T's lineup deprives people of choice?
Well obviously people have some level of choice still, but I don't think I'm alone among AT&T customers when I say it'd be nice if someone could walk into an AT&T store, compare an iPhone and an Android device head to head, and choose the one they deem more appropriate for them.
Where is my Android? And with decent hardware.
your shitty android can be found with a shitty carrier, t-mobile
it can also be found on horrible hardware. only in the hands of google fanboys, because noone else gives a shit about an OS which only defining feature includes a link to google, gmail, maps, and youtube on the menu, oh and horrible apps made by 3rd parties.
I really wish ATT would get the tilt2 (Touch Pro 2) out on the display shelves ASAP! Since they are taking forever to get it out for sale it better have that coveted 3.5mm jack!
AT&T really gets every hot phone that comes out which doesn't surprise me that they will be getting the Nuvifone and I also heard AT&T was offered the Blackberry Storm but they turned it down because they felt it would compete too much with the iPhone.
To The Poster: You spelt Nuvifone wrong in the headline :-) ... you're welcome!
You spelt nüviphone wrong, too…
"No Android of webOS on this list"
Think you meant or, not of.
But wait, there's more! Act now and AT&T will only charge you a required $29.99/month data plan, plus the required $9.99 GPS/month fees. Screw AT&T and overpricing.
When do they have a required $9.99 GPS/month fee? And who gets a smartphone with no data?
I think AT&T loads telenav on most of their phones and give you a months free trial but you can use google maps or whatever you want and use the gps through that. Unlike verizon AT&T doesnt tie down the gps to one program.
VZW has been opening it up with the latest phones.
I expect the Nüviphone to have excellent GPS and terrible everything else.
This is like Nikon making a camera phone, the camera would be excellent, the phone would suck due to lack of experience.
Let's go Palm! Get webOS to AT&T pronto!
"No Android *of* webOS on this list, sadly, but hey -- the nüvifone is coming. Can you feel the excitement?"
Don't you mean or?
Okay... seriously. The lack of Android is getting irritating. If some manufacturer out there wants to release a nice unlocked android phone with AT&T compatible 3G data, I will buy it. HTC? Please?
The Rogers versions of the HTC Magic and Dream are available without contract, and use the same 3G frequency that AT&T uses.
So, $600 ( handset ) + $20 ( unlock code ) + A friend in Canda = Unlocked Android Phone on AT&T
or did you mean a cheap android phone for AT&T, cuz that's what I'm waiting for too.
@MrBoB I mostly mean one that's actually for AT&T. I'd take a non-carrier, unlocked handset as well. I don't really know anyone in Canada well enough to have them ship me a phone. I really like these skinned Android releases. I don't really care for the Dream or magic. Now a software optimized Hero coming to AT&T after a brief Sprint exclusivity... that's my dream.
No android or WebOs sucks. AT&T's pricing sucks. Their network sucks. I used to love AT&T, but I think they feel they don't have to try to compete since they have the iPhone, which is unfortunately true because most people think iPhones are the only option, and at the moment WebOS isn't quite ready for primetime and android doesn't have very good hardware, and WinMo, Symbian and to a lesser extent Blackberry os are stuck in the past.
Any rumors of what the BB 9700 is?
BB 9020 Onyx, maybe;
WinMo isn't stuck in the past.
You're stuck in the past.
Tried a TG01, Touch HD, TP2, or Omnia 2 running WM 6.5?
I would bet not.
Yeah, the real news is the BB9700. Any info on the spec? I hope it's the 9000 + better auto-focus camera & video recording.
Sincere question: what is engadget mobile for?
You do realize the main site gives you everything that is a "gadget". Engadget Mobile is a subdivision that gives you just... mobile devices.
Engadget Mobile was created before Apple released the iPhone and made smartphones appealing to normal people. Back when the hottest phone news was the latest Razr color. Today this stuff is big business and they can't afford to keep it off the main site.
You do realize that's not how engadget mobile works, dcoaster?
Why is the bb 9000 in the pre release list?
NC=No Camera
Too bad AT&T is pretty much shit.
the G60 isn't technically android? it has a raw linux build? err, not raw, but more formal linux?
The G60 is a custom Linux build. It's one of the the things it gets dinged for, since third party developers probably won't produce many apps for it.
So AT&T is launching multiple varieties of Vietnamese noodle soups?
pho real
I'll take the Pho Pan Bo Vien, please.
Yeah something has GOT TO GIVE sooner or later. It's funny how WE ALL!including me, used to bad mouth sprint for being the pits, but now they seem to be trying to at least get on the ball with devices. ATT really needs to step up or I will be jumping ship and taking all of my expired contracts with me real soon. No webos, no android, no 3G blackberries other that the Bold which is practically ancient at this point. No we have Verizon saying were getting pre, like it or nor sprint, weve got android coming...Sprint with WebOS, and imminent HTC hero release, even TMo is dropping new headsets regularly. ATT...Garmin Nuvifone??? WTH??
The sad this is, like a previous commentor stated, they will probably still want to charge you 9.99 for gps telenav. ATT seemed to only care about Iphone milking at this point. It's really just piss poor of them. Iphones are great, but I don't want one, never have never will. Blackberries are cool, but really, can you please stop releasing edge only devices. WinMO will always just be, well WiSlow, not much changes there. Nokia is on the ropes. ATT I BEG YOU, release something interesting! ANYTHING!
What ever happened to that HTC Lancaster that was supposed to run Android? We saw a leaked picture of it months ago with a targeted release date of summer, and now it seems to have vanished into smoke.
