Motorola Morrison specs purportedly leak out
Hopefully Motorola's cooking up a super-special custom UI for the Android-powered Morrison, because the purported spec list that just leaked out is looking pretty average -- Moto's newest slider will apparently sport a 528MHz Qualcomm processor with 256MB of RAM, or basically the same setup as the HTC G1, myTouch, and Hero. Yeah, we know this is supposed to be a lower-end set, but isn't it high time we saw some fundamentally different Android hardware?

Its not...terrible. We still need our tegra/snapdragon android complete with h/w keyboard.
I just don't get why they add these color accents, I feel they actually constrict the devices audience by catering to a certain demographic's "choice color."
Of course, I guess the color design of the phone isn't terribly important, but designing the phone to look more "grown up" might not be against Motorola's interest - the somewhat now stale silver bezel and black glossy front aside.
well, of "that" is it's intended demo, you can count on at least a few color options. One of which hopefully, will be boring.

god dammit i hope motorola goes bankrupt and dies. this phone is going to be a flop it's lesser than the g1 since it has a smaller screen. looks uglier and has the same exact specs.
You can sit there and criticize a company for what they make. But wishing the outright destruction of a company that employs thousands of people and was responsible for some great engineering feats is just plain ignorant. Remember what you said if you ever make a 911 call. There is at least an 80% chance that call will be sent out over a Motorola radio system.
Ive gotta second that, Moto phones are pretty damn cheap, and not in a good way. who still buys them? the only moto phones i ever see anyone with is the razr, are they really still riding that gravy train?
I have to agree with nukee I am a volunteer fireman and all of our pagers and most of our portables are motorola. I actually have a motorola pager on my hip right now. Just because motorola doesn't make the best phones, there is no reason you should wish for their total demise as a company. They make many great radios and such that many emergency response organizations use and rely on every day. Also I think that that this phone will not sell amazingly, but I highly doubt it will be a flop; many customers will see motorola and the (hopefully) lesser price than the g1 and just buy it.
god dammit i hope motorola's consumer mobile phone division goes bankrupt and dies. this phone is going to be a flop it's lesser than the g1 since it has a smaller screen. looks uglier and has the same exact specs.
Nah, Moto will never go kaboom, they have a pretty successful business in China, so I'd say its consumer phone division will be bought by a Chinese company before it goes bankrupt, just like the IBM/Lenovo deal.
I think someone got their mults mixed up...
If I am to understand correctly, the RAM on the Morrison is more than both the G1 and the myTouch 3G, which would make this improved greatly, considering it supposedly has a 5 megapixel camera also!
You might wanna read more closely next time Engadget!
That thing is fugly. Why can't there be a decent looking (semi)-smartphone that has wifi other than the e63? Atleast the d-pad is on the correct side for games.
Yes this is ugly, but it is low end and since it is sporting the same spec as a G1 or G2 this little phone shows just how easily Android phones will saturate the market over the next couple of years.
I look forward to even the crappiest free contract phone being a near fully functional Android phone.
Not as great as it could or should be but at least Moto is making this thing run Android... now all they need to do is combine that software with their typically sharper hardware design and they'll have a winner. At least it has a physical keyboard.
I honestly don't see what at all is ugly about the device. Was the phone built to suit adults? Nope. But that doesn't make it ugly at all. I'm sure it would look better in a mature color palette (e.g.: sub the blue for black), but the design it not bad though the keyboard looks like it may be annoying to use.
In terms of the hardware, aren't there higher end Android devices available or are soon to be available? A company like Motorola needs to design lower-cost devices to keep its mobile sector afloat. And, in general, a device's success is most influenced software and hardware (of course I'm not saying hardware isn't important, but the integration of use of said hardware is even more so).
some of us are waiting patiently for the samsung galaxy to hit t-mobile usa. with 8 gigs on board and flash to go with the 5 megapixel camera, that is a true improvement on the g1 - which has treated me pretty well for the last year. like all of you, i'd like more though.
looks like no cntrl key is the new trend
I think WinMo phones are the only ones that have a control key...There isn't any real use for it in the Android Operating system though. You can pretty much do everything with the alt and shift keys.
it's nice to see that moto is somehow stepping up. but what's with the toy-ish color?!
I think it looks kinda nice... but what do I know?
Considering how Motorola is usually associated with crappy flip phones, this is a massive jump forward. I hope it works as well as the competition, at least. I always feel bad for crappy phones, they never get loved.
Brings nothing new to the table ...... Unless its less than $50.00
hope motorola will release A3300 outside of china....
I don't know. Is it just me or is a pretty good operating software being limited by average hardware? It kinda reminds me of windows mobile, ok software (at it's time) with overwhelmed hardware unable to cope, getting slow and crashing.
I confess im a iPhone 3GS user and love it. It's by no way perfect, but is pretty good. Andriod is great for competition, but im yet to see sexy hardware capable of taking full advantage of it.
Just my thoughts.
It looks like a kid's phone.
This phone will be for t-mobile gear towards a low end tier while the cooler one that looked like the zune will be geared towards the business tier
I don't think it looks that bad and for there first try at an android phone i think the specs are reasonable! but I have to agree with engadget! It is well over due, Time we saw some fundamentally different Android hardware!!! as in higher and faster specs! I live in Australia so what ever you lucky buggers in the states get we don't get for at least another 4months! and nothing more powerful then the g1 has been released yet over there so I have a long wait till and upgrade =[
For a phone which is supposed to be a cheap android phone, having specs which are similar to the Hero and G2 which are aimed at the more expensive smartphone buyers is pretty good. Quit ya bitchin, if this phone is going to be a cheaper Android phone, the specs are great and better than I would've expected.
ZOMG YES! I'm sick of these 528MHz Qualcomm processor with 256MB of RAM crap.. It doesn't run the dang thing fast enough.. Lets roll a better processor and a little more ram and I bet android will be great.
We knew this would be a lower end phone so it shouldn't be a surprise. However I do hope the Android phones with better specs are released soon (we know there are some planned but not released yet).
This thing cam straight out the toybox
Not too bad, looks better than HTC G1, but screen is small, it uses old and slow 528mhz Qualcomm chip and no custom UI. Not bad for a first effort I guess, but could be better.
Is it just me or are the keys designed just like the Nokia N810's,, right down to the typeface?
Please Tmobile(or anyone for that matter), get a device that can run android to its potential, this is just getting ridiculous. I love android, and still would not get rid of my G1, but I am really getting tired of the RAM and processor constraints of the device.
I have money in my hand that I want so very badly to give a phone manufacturer or carrier, but no one seems to want it, geez, all they need to do is slap android on one of these powerful winmo devices and thats fine, just give me better hardware.
I just really don't get it, it's as if these manufacturers and carriers are convinced that no "power user" is using android, it's just moronic.
I think it's time people start calling their carriers and demanding a better android device, I am going to call tmobile and tell them I want to buy a new phone, but they need to actually provide something better than year old hardware in a new package. The mytouch3g is especially a big joke, remove keyboard off G1, and then charge $50 more.
