RAmos T11 RK boasts 720p H.264 support, a stylish but all too familiar UI
Decent design, nice specs, bargain price, and a pretty poor chance of coming stateside? Yep, this must be RAmos. Its latest touchscreen media device, the T11 RK, sports the same Rockchip RK2806 processor as the Terminator T12, and also has a 5-inch, 800 x 480 display, 8GB internal memory, 720p TV out, FM radio, and support for numerous codecs including H.264 HD, DivX, XviD, MPG, and FLV. As you can tell from the picture above, it's also wielding the ever-important clock and calendar widgets, as well as a dock with some all-too-familiar, borderline KIRF inspiration, although judging by the other pictures, the UI is overall pretty classy. If you find yourself in China, this baby can be yours for 699 Yuan, or about $102 in US currency, and if not, feel free to live vicariously through the video after the break.

Does it come in English? I will take it.
Yes It will have a english firmware.
Not bad at all. If it had some WiFi, more storage (about 32 GB) and could run a few applications, I'd certainly buy it. Nice size, good codecs and the price is just right. Looks like a winner.
I guess we can't ask for everything and paying close to nothing, but at least give the option of Wifi, that'll hugely expand the versatility of this device.
familliar to what ?,
is it the mighty Apple iPhone ?
come on, all device going to beat iPhone, but no one beat it.
hahahaha...
all your base are belong to us..
Well you know what the ipods dont have, SD CARD slot(s), OR usb hosting capabilities, dam you Steve Jobs, I wantz more space grrr...
iPad is the keyword here. Now upload it to YouTube quick as a prior art, lol. Somebody saw something somewhere, but obviously didn't commit suicide, haha.
Hey, at least this one I don't have to be 100% ashamed of.
Once again, another Chinese product - and once again, another shameless rip-off of someone else's hard work. The clock widget is straight out of HTC's TouchFlo and SenseUI software.
They used squares with rounded corners!
Unbelievable!!! How dare they, what an OUTRAEG!!!
See http://www.mobilewhack.com/wp-content/pics/2009/06/htc-sense.jpg
Or the Apple settings icon. I mean, if you're going to rip something off, at least put a little bit of originality into it. This is why it's cheap - there are practically no R&D costs which every other company in the world has to bear.
Do you know HTC is a Chinese company too?
@htd
Isn't it Taiwanese?
yea i thought taiwan was in germany
Android...open source...free to copy...etc?
Plus, how can designing THAT be called "hard work" (overpaid graphics designer)? I suppose you think Apple revolutionized revolutions too.
Really David? The calendar widget makes the whole thing a shameless rip-off? The settings icon design is similar? That makes it KIRF? You and the Engadget editors are really stretching it when it comes to accusing designs of being KIRFish just because it's Chinese. If you watch the video, the clock can also changed to other designs like analog, and I'm assuming digital LED display. You know, typical designs. If you're going to call a certain clock design a ripoff, then 99% of the clocks are ripoffs of each other, as are cars because they share similar designs. Camaro, Mustang, Charger? Same crap. President's choice chips and Ruffles chips? Copycats. Most laptops, monitors, TVs and widget designs? KIRF, KIRF, KIRF. They are all similar in concept with their own little changes.
The fact is that this thing is awesome. It has a slick design, a good UI, great format support, and costs $102, meaning not only is it cheap, it's more desirable than most other PMPs on the market. Because it's Chinese, it gets that extra scrutiny though. Whatever. As a gadget lover, I would buy this thing in a heartbeat.
The TouchFlo clock style itself is inspired by decades-old clocks that would have its numbers on folding plastic sheets, wrapping into view along a track. i still have one that's over 30 years old. so the design isn't something necessarily conceived by htc, but they came up with the definitive look for this type of clock readout.
this thing is pretty awesome for 100 bucks.
You're all normally bitching about products being too expensive due to R&D costs. Now a cheap item comes along and you still don't like it because everything is stolen resulting in low R&D costs. WTF!?!
So which part of a glossy icon counts as R&D? The part where they mix up chemicals to create the gloss effect?
@tenminutehobo
it's not squares with rounded corners... It's the settings icon, which is just stolen and put behind an orange filter layer. It's the little media button that looks like a Final Cut icon. It's the little blue "+" sign in the playlist.
People who think they can just take someone else's work because it's on the internet are just plain douche bags, and even if I wanted a media player like this, I'd pay 10 times more for a real version that doesn't rip off some one else's research and development investment.
There are so many levels of bizzaro in this comment stream I wonder where to start. The Apple UI is at once lame and good, yet Apple innovate nothing but are cool and crap and this is their work, or maybe someone elses depending on where the fanboy hiney is wiggling.
The I wouldn't pay that mob moaning about how others should give them everything for free complaining about a cheap thing cause it was taken for free.
The China is taking all our stuff tantrums, when actually it has been us that Gave it all to them.
Mmm. 5" screen and plays videos with some widgets that you'll never use. Value proposition? cheap subsidized (by our manufacturing requests) 5" LCD panel and housing to use for making your own device.
I'm so tired of these low-capacity PMPs from China. Grow some b***s and slap a mini HDD under one of those.
If only it worked as good as it looks. If only the good looking ones were as open as the ones that didn't work.
Beautiful, powerful, open. Chose any two. For now.
These words are the truth.
Why can't we have all three in a single device, goddamnit!!!
I live in Shanghai, will be interested to take a peek at the electronics markets this week to see what I can find. I'm really doubting that price, though. Seems like they'd charge a lot more.
Oh, and what's with the iPhone-like signals bars that show up at the top left next to the clock in some of the pictures at the source site? (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Faudio.pconline.com.cn%2Finfo%2F0908%2F1724610.html) Who cares if it's based off an iPhone, I just want to know if this thing has connectivity of some sort???
Nope, no intervebs on it sorry.
this is apples first-generation iTablet with some HTC TouchFlo 3d and Sprinkled with some Android with SenseUI for a extra kick you know, and you got this
If this one has internet explorer, I will buy it right away.
Really? Only 699 yuan RMB?
That's cool!
I want one!
Where can I get it?
I'm living in Deyang Sichuan,China.
New RAmos T11! Make excellent for film view for you! Also to make directly internets, music and more in the hands of you!!
Let me guess, you were part of the design process for this.
The bezel look like from a Cowon A2...
Wow nice product, does it have a web browser? Available in Guangzhou?I don't understand apple fans complaint outsource your manufacturing to save a buck, you deserve to have your device copied - lol.
Nope, no wifi on this, you would probably be looking for a smartQ5, or a Yinlips YD-G80.
What, you're claiming the Chinese are being exploited by having a bunch of high-tech devices by American and European companies built there?
Sure, it saves us a few bucks, but they'd be pretty much nowhere without Western manufacturing.
These days China has more of a domestic market, but think about where it got its start before you start claiming exploitation.
Often Engadget says that products GUI's rip off Apple in some way. Well this time I would have to agree.
Almost all the icons are straight from the iPod Touch interface?! What's wrong with making your own icons at least these days? Besides the iPod Touch icons, I must say i thought the article was about some device with the new HTC Hero software on it when I first saw the post.
What's with the floppy disc icon? Does this come with a 3 1/2" floppy for storage? Or, is that the retro button?
Could mean save. Microsoft office does the same.
wow....i sure want one for that price.....heck, ill buy 2
seems like its more than 16 gb ?????
The only similarity is the vague OSX inspiration from the dock. Other than that, it's perfectly fine. Come on Engadget.
******************* THIS IS FAKE.. I HOPE EVERYONE NOTICED IT *******************
The speed of this device "I BET" is much slower with more freezings. This video has been edited to cut all the waiting time "in addition to the regular editing. When the guy clicks on any button "That would most likely generates a loading" his finger moves in an unprecedented speed "i believe the waiting moments and lags has been cut from the movie"
Random example
Second 35 in the movie when he clicks on the song name
Cheers
O_O
I don't understand why they don't just *use* Android, considering its free, instead of copying. Hell, it's probably more work to copy it than it is to just use it.
Me want one, where me can order one?
Now thats Thinking Different!
test
What OS is it running?
(and what family of CPU architectures is that?)
@tgluak
HTC is a Chinese company
Taiwan is only a Province of China !
