Microsoft's new retail logo revealed in trademark application
You know how serious Microsoft is about those new retail stores it's currently building? New logo serious, fool. This artful rethink of the familiar Windows logo just popped up in a trademark filing saying it'll be used to identify "retail store services and online retail services" for computers, media players, cell phones, video games, and more. Sounds like this is one box you'll be seeing in person sometime soon.

I know, weird right? It's like ALL these tech news sites print the news they discover, even if someone else printed it too!
Yeah, just like how all the newspapers print the same story even if another paper printed the same thing.
I don't know why, but it looks like a logo from the 70s, like an evolution of the Caldor logo or something. I don't care for it.
I vote for best two opening lines in an article. Ever.
I think it's horrendous. It's like they reverted back to 8-bit or something. A little style please?
I'm on my way to the tattoo parlor right now!!
Question is: does it glow?
Haha... BOX!
Reminds me of this:

Sp when do they start hiring good designers???
I wonder if they know we're not in the 60's anymore???... and haven't been for a while.
Is that some compression fuzz I'm seeing or is it simply a migraine coming on?
Am I the only person who thinks it looks like the Silver Pictures logo? http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/categories/movies/159105.html
Wow Microsoft actually comes up with simple clean design , and everyone complains about it !
You guys don't get it! The reason this image is good is because it is finally multiple windows being shown in the icon instead of just A window.
Window[s]
Haha! The author means box like vagina, I get it!
It's not that bad, but it seems kind of plain for a store logo. But, I could see this becoming the universal Windows logo instead, looks better that way.

It looks alright, but I preferred the wavy one with only one color per square.
i feel like im looking at the logo for an upscale house paint store...
Damn that is an UGLY logo. I think it would be more suitable for a lego store or something. Looks like the Windows logo when copied by a 5 year old in Paint from Windows 95.
http://idisk.me.com/franktinsley/Public/Dockdrop/Microsoft-Store-Logo-Single-Color.jpg Check out the single color version. Pretty... exciting?
whats your point???
well it's okey better then the flying windows logo ... and obviously not made with Paint !
Stolen from someone on Gizmodo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tw-GGT6900s
i like it... kind of retro lookin...
i guess they need to make something easy to sew into shirts haha...
This reminds me of Joseph Alburs Homage to the Sqaure... If you don't know what that is, google it...
It's simple and easily recognizable.
That's the point of a logo, to introduce familiarity...some people think it should have been rendered on a SGI workstation for it to be purposeful.
I think they just stopped trying
it's a story... of man named brady... Looks awfully 70's to me! I wanna see Gates in bellbottoms and Balmer in some psychedelic polyester shirts in the ads man.
The new logo looks like it could be in the background of one of my powerpoint presentations about the elegance of a Mac.
Microsoft tops itself again as the most foolish of all tech companies on the planet. This "logo" or "graphic" merely reflects the sad and laughable attempt of Microsoft trying to be "cool" and "hip". Microsoft is old, rickety, archaic and you can easily see from their sad and pathetic attempts at being cool, that Microsoft is incapable of being a "me too" in regards to being young, fresh and cool like Apple. Perhaps their marketing inspiration should point toward Russia during the 1950's era, where clunky, oversized and immediate obsolescence go hand in hand.
Jubei, you're so coooooooool.
Just more monkey-spankin' visual vulgarity from the geniuses in Redmond. What does this logo say? Nothing. What does this logo represent? Nothing. How much design effort went into this logo? Almost none.
LOL. looks like they took Apple's old Rainbow colors and put them in a box. What will the "try" to think of next?
yeah, cuz apple totally invented the colors red, blue, green and yellow.
what happened to the recession antidotes?
Logos are created, not bought. And anyone who understands color theory might have more appreciation for this logo. I do, but i think a more microsoft-esque logo (versus windows-esque) would have been better
Looks like a broken window.
Success is simplicity. They want a logo people can remember, so all you whining bitches saying its not the 80's, you're wasting your stale breaths.
Meh, it's kinda bland
Actually, it looks like they simply went to a website with a color wheel where you can pick a scheme for web design, and then clicked on the four colors and got 2 complements each in the same palette.
I deal with those things every day at work.
I have a gut feeling that we all are going to get very used to this logo when each panel is printed out 5 foot by 5 foot and suspended by wires, in a store front with computers displayed in front of it (similar to Apple stores)...
...and each monitor and Zune has the blue screen of death on it (sorry, had to do it).
Its like my video driver failed.
Looks like they zoomed into their bitmap logo a bit too much.
Did the same crew who handled the new Pepsi logo for a 1mil do this logo as well?
Homage to the Square! Josef Albers. Totally.
