Retailer claims PS3 Slim is headed for Europe next month, getting 100 Euro price drop
More fuel to the spreading rumor of a gamescom debut for the PS3 Slim: French games site JVN got ahold of an "anonymous retailer" who spilled the supposed beans of an impending PS3 Slim launch in Europe. Word is that the console is supposed to land next month over there for €300 Euro -- €100 Euro less than it currently retails, a real sight for sore, price-gouged eyes -- and gamescom seems to be the safest bet for a debut. Other details are scarce, and some facts are downright confusing: the console is currently being listed by this retailer's wholesalers as a "limited edition," which naturally seems silly given the traditional PlayStation life cycle. Still, we like where this all is headed.

A friend of mine just bought a PS3 despite me recommending to him that he should wait.... If this happens he will not be happy!
I've been waiting for months now, and by the look of the blurry pics it look true and nice.
Ps3 for anyone who does not own one ;)
Friends don't let friend buy Sony....
Just kidding. I have one. Pretty decent system. 299 will make it a good deal. 399 is a bit steep, considering blu ray drives are so cheap now.
I wonder how MS will respond? Assuming this is true.
I can see a slim version, but I don't know about the price drop.
decided to get a ps3 few days ago, but everybody's been recommending me to hold my horses. i guess i shall wait :S
but its gonna take another month or two till this new model reaches here.
going on sony's slimming kick lately (i.e. pspGO!) something will be missing out of this. i'm guessing the ps2 comparability. i dunno, i like my glossy ps3 with the 320 gig hard drive i installed.
ps2 compatibility has been gone for a while now
friends don't let friends buy PS3.
ps2 compatibility is coming to all PS3s as a software upgrade.
It's time to ditch that friend of yours, my friend.
If your friend bought the PS3 within 15-30 days(depending on the store, of course), price adjustment FTW or return it if within 15 days(store refund policies still apply). Over 30 days, tell you friend "Man up.". :)
@windblownmonkey
Microsoft is dropping the Pro and lowering the Elite's price down to $300.
@sondun2001
That is not a fact. Not even a rumor. Just speculation based on a patent that seems to have more to do with the old 80GB models.
If the price drop is true, then I'm gonna be all over this. If they also include backwards computability, that would be the icing on the cake.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
i dont care about Backwards Compatibility, everyone already has a PS2 now just get the slimmer version with 45nm and $150 price drop.
I still think the current PS3 design looks much better. Not to mention that new PS3 logo, it's hideous.
Nah I think the current logo is hideous.. SPIDERMAN come on! Beside Mr. Blurrycam isn't excactly the best photographer in the world. It could turn out better..
been seeing ps3 in pics for years, seen the real thing in action for the first time.
and man that thing IS HUGE!!!.
so i wouldn't call it nice. a slimmed version will be cool.
@milkywayer
My apologies if you're foreign or something, but where have you been for the past three years?!?
the shitty logo is what stops me from believing the photos. I agree the spiderman font was a very lame move, since it was already established. But really, I hope sony isn't cutting back on graphic designers to keep their prices down, because that logo is a joke.
how is the logo a joke? its the same damn 3 front logo as the ps2.
no more spiderman font? not complaining.
What about u.s? i think the slim ps3 look pretty ungly
it doesn't look that bad but i think the original one looks better
Damn, Mr Blurry Cam, just as a thought you were getting the hang of upping the ISO for candid shots, you push it too far and get all over exposed.
That means a $100 drop in the US, since they usually screw Europeans by going 1:1 even though the Euro is worth $1.40 (if they don't do even worse, like Rock Band).
ummm, wouldn't that be screwing the americans this time around?
a €100 price drop should mean a $150 price drop here.... if its only $100 then thats 50 bucks less.
Good point, but $299 GBP is still is still $492 US.
correction: €299 = $422 USD
@Lance,
he said 299 GBP = Pounds Sterling! That's US $492.
Do you get it now? British Pounds not Euros. Only 16 of 47 countries in Europe use the Euro.
Eww i hope that's not it
Looks like it won't be long before those with PS3's functioning perfectly can que pointlessly!
Who cares what it looks like? Seriously, Sony drop this shit ASAP....a $299 PS3 is much better than a $399 PS3....your within striking distance of a Wii. I still won't give up my 20GB PS3, which now has a 250GB drive. Full BC, baby!
I'm sure Nintendo will drop the price to $199 if sales continue to slide.
I don't care, I got all three and am happy as a clam.
Don't know what you're saying but so use to low ranking you that it's automatic.
Don't get this weird thing you guys do with your currency.
If you write €300 then you don't need to write "Euro" afterwards - if you do it reads like "three hundred euro euro".
This looks like something I'd want buried in an AV rack, not something I'd want to display in a TV stand/cabinet. It looks even more plain than the Wii does. I don't expect it to be "Army of Two" style bling'd out or anything but... actually, yes, do want.
anything smaller than the original is better in my opinion. I'm going to wait for the Gran Turismo 5 bundle that will probably be released around christmas.
"Noob, what comes before FIRST?!"
I want to say last.
Actually the word is Zeroth.
golurkmoar
Come on backwards compatibility. If it does have it, I'm still not buying it, I just want Sony to add compatability in updates. So annoying having to reset Fire Pro Wrestling Returns all the time to get rid of the blur.
It's possible that the "limited edition" could be some kind of bundle. Or a translation error meaning that there'll be a shortage at launch.
I cannot believe that Sony will only produce a few of these things and then stop. What's the point?
€100 that is like $1.000.000.000 USD right?
@RLBurkes
€100 is currently $141.165... ...
@RLBurkes
mahahahahahaheeheeheehee motherf#cker.
The US economy and GDP are still larger than all of Europe combined. I have little faith in Obama economics, but I do have faith in America. When the Pound Sterling is fetching $.78 and the Euro gets you $.65 ten years from now, I'll look you up...
finally a PS3 Slim news
And that's why, monkey.
oh, wait...
I'm sorry, but that thing is ugly. It won't sell if it looks like that. But the PSP Go! looked better in person than it did in camera.. so we'll see.
I'll take ugly & less expensive with BC over pricey & fashionable.
"fashionable"?
Doesn't the current PS3 resemble a shoe box? I give Sony credit for putting the power supply unit inside the console itself but doing so didn't do it looks any favours. So far the slim looks to be a considerable improvement and a price drop is very nice.
With these recent updates I might go back to the dark side and be a sony fanboy again.
If that blurry photo is the real deal, gross!
The original is a perfect size. It's got an 8-core 3.2GHz processor and a mobile 7200 or 7800 GPU, right? This this is a computer. It's equally as powerful as most desktop (minus the RAM) and it much smaller.
The 20GB and 60GB systems are perfect. Everything else that has succeeded those has been crap.
