Verbatim Tuff-Clip flash drives for the adventure nerd
We can't honestly say we've ever had a flash drive go bad because it wasn't tough enough, but apparently there's a market of globe-trotting ex-military jungle assassins out there big enough for Verbatim to join in with the Tuff-Clip USB stick. (Actually, it's TUFF-CLIP, because all-caps names are water-resistant to 100 feet.) Of course, you'll have to pay for those rugged good looks: the 4GB version is $30, while the 8GB is $50. Not exactly a steal when you consider this Hello Kitty stick we've been using cost us nothing more than our pride.

Nerds don't go on adventures, they go to conventions.
Well, then it needs to be sweat-resistant
100 feet of sweat resistant
con-ventures.
True nerds don't go out. They play Persona 3 and get Tesco to deliver their shopping.
Poo AND Wee.
Tesco?!?!? Where is u live?
I'd guess he lives in England as Tesco is a massive grocery chain over there.
LOL @ cost us nothing more than our pride.
you guys really are funny with those quotes :P

"Where is u live?"?? Really?
Stop before I get someone to find you and forcibly separate you from our name.
Office Depot has had these for a few weeks. The 4GB and 8GB are selling there for less than the prices listed in the article.
A nicer version:

I hate creative capitalizers. Ebay is the worst. They insist that the B—not the E!—should be capitalized. Then you go to their website and see the logo and it's the Y that's capitalized!
I think this is for the niche market of people like me who like anything that's tough and waterproof. I do find myself on an unsafe boat from time to time, and then it's nice to have all my electronics packed into Ortlieb waterproof bags.
I guess i am the only one who has had multiple usb flash drives break while on my keys. By break i mean the plastic casing around it. I sdont know if paying that much for a good case around them is worth it though.
I concur, I've nearly lost jump drives from the chintzy keyring on most thumb drives. You need more than just encryption to keep data safe, you need to make sure it doesn't fall out of your pocket!
if it was this housing for an OCZ rally2 turbo, then it'd be a no brainer.
wait a sec here....there are supposed to be "tough" and they still have a cap???
Thank you Jack.
Guess neither of you bothered to actually READ the release? Boring, I know, but you'd learn something from it. :-)
"Verbatim’s TUFF-CLIP USB drives feature an ultra-rugged plastic enclosure with a >>>***convenient retractable slider***
Only good if I can use it for climbing. ;-)
Make a 16gb+ flash drive without a cap (retracts) and a really GOOD (not that sandisk one that you can rip off) clip portion for under $35. I'll buy 3 of them for the whole damn family. Make it and we will buy it. It's that easy.
This looks like the flash drive used in the Dollhouse episode 11 ("Briar Rose") of season one. Anyone?
what kind of pussies never broke a memory stuck?
I've had at least two that were not tough enough including an 8GB about 6 months ago.
Engadget needs to hire some real live men and lay off the boys for awhile.
This kind of thing is perfect for me. I am a combat correspondent in the Marine Corps, and I always need a reliable medium to transport files be it photos or text documents. I am ordering one and will let you know if it stands up to life in the Corps. I checked out the A-DATA Steve posted a link to. I like the no cap idea, but dislike the swivel. Seems like it could break off. It also isn't waterproof. I don't get wet often, but sweat often drenches what ever is near me.
I'll stick with my Corsair Survivor 8GB I think. ;) kthxbai
i have had my flash drive through the wash several times and everything still works fine.... i don't see a point to this! =)
even though.. it is quite nice.
I am of a firm conviction that anything that describes its durability as "TUFF"...isn't.
When the polar ice caps melt and you're all left without any data, you can bet I'll have some data. Data that'll keep me warm in the water-logged nights.
