Nabaztag can't make RFID cool, has to file for bankruptcy
We always knew that any company courageous enough to take a technology designed to help mega-corps monitor their inventory levels and make it mainstream would face an uphill battle, but we never envisioned Nabaztag caving entirely to the pressure. If a snippet in a recent issue of Les Echos (a French financial paper) is to be believed, the creator of the rabbit-inspired Violet RFID Mirror has filed for bankruptcy, giving any company interested in keeping the brand alive until September 4th to toss out a cash infusion. Not like we're looking at you, Mr. VC, but we're definitely hoping to not be sobbing about this in just under a month. Tick, tock.

A truly upsetting event in this god forsaken country. What was once a brilliant idea lead by an intelligent and resourceful team became the worst disaster this country has scene since last week when I fell asleep on the train and missed my stop.
sick
RIP Violet, I guess it's not enough to have a great innovative product, but you also have to be american to have a chance of surviving.
I never got to use the RFID capabilities, but the web radios, the dancing, wheather forcast, access to my music library wirelessly make the lovely rabbit an everyday enjoyment for my family and I, especially my 2 year-old boy.
Well, they had it coming. They had a brilliant idea with an atrociously slow and imperfect implementation and follow-up. Whoever bought their products with enthusiasm was rewarded with extremely poor service and unkept promises.
I just hope someone else buys them off and make of Nabaztag what it is always supposed to be.
RIP
Oh no... my poor Nabaztag! What will happen to it now? I love the little bugger with its quirky monologues and random tai-chi!
On a sidenote... their support wasn't that bad in my experience...
When I asked them to add my town to the list of options for weatherforecast they did so within a day!
Slightly different opinion here. While it's a shame they're going under (I own a Nabaztag/tag). Their customer service was terrible and the whole setup was pretty clunky and suffered from so many issues. God knows how someone that wasn't tech savvy was supposed to use their Nabaztag! Also, on a personal note, I've been without my Nabaztag/tag for a good six months or so. And all of my e-mails to them have gone totally unnoticed,
While it's a shame when anybody loses their company, I can see the reasons why.
PS Engadget, can we have a picture of the bunny instead of the filing? Seems a little more upbeat!
Ah my poor cranberry :( I haven't had him plugged in for ages, yet the power behind Violets creations were very positive. Their setup was a bit clunky and I could have done with an API, but it was an awesome idea. Really sorry to hear these guys didn't make it.
And since the bunnies are relying on Violet's servers for everything they will go defunct along with their creators, right?
That reliance on a startup was precisely what prevented me from buying a pair of them a year back...
Oh crud. I've been experimenting with my mir:ror for a couple of months. This had some great applications for helping people with learning difficulties and dementia. I have been in the process of making videos and was going to speak about its potential applications at a forthcoming mini-conference. Fingers crossed someone steps in because I know quite a large number of people who could really benefit from this technology.
Noooo!!! My poor Nabaztag and Mir:ror!!!!
To be honest, I have had nothing but excellent customer service from them. When by rabbit died, they shipped me out a new one. They helped me work through a few issues I was having with my router. I was so impressed with them, I got one for my parents back home in Australia so I could leave messages for them and they could do likewise!
I dont want Nabbit to die!!!
Well, I am going to toss mine on eBay and get something before the servers go down. A shame really, I used it for about 3 months and had nothing but problems. I haven't had it plugged in since I moved about 2 months ago and haven't missed it.
Then again, maybe I should hold onto it and wait until it becomes a collectors item?
Well it is interesting, This might be right but I was thinking in another dimension.
sometime a timely debt can save many for us.
Great tech company, let's all save it and own it!!!

Oh No!! Please don't let QueenCasper die! "How will I ever know what time it is when he's not there?"
