HP Pavilion Elite makes an offer you (probably) can't refuse: Blu-ray, Win 7, quad-core CPU for $650
Sure, it's not as sleek as some of the other options out there, but the specs of this HP Pavilion Elite e9110t desktop, for the $649.99 asking price, are pretty stunning: a 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Quad processor, NVIDIA GeForce G210, 6GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive , 802.11n, Blu-ray player, and a free Windows 7 upgrade when it finally launches. Offer ends this Saturday, August 15th, but if you're interests have piqued and your wallet has giving the go-ahead, dealnews has all the details and pertinent coupon codes.

Thats a great setup. be great for gaming. only problem... it's HP.
With that videocard?
Agreed. It's bound to have plenty of problems and HP has crappy support, based on my experiences with their systems.
Odd. Based on my experiences with HP they have the best support.
I would jump on this deal if my HP was showing the slightes amount of problems after all these years!
You just have to know how to take care of your PC.
It's a terrible gaming system with that video card, unless you only plan on playing old games. It's only good for multimedia and HD movies.
Perhaps I have been out of the PC hardware scene too long. But when did HP become a bad product. I have always considered them the BMW of computers.
@weirdo123098
Probably when they bought Compaq.
"Great deal" movie playing box for $650. Its only advantage over Acer Aspire Revo would be Blu-Ray... but do you REALLY need it?
Agreed. Our first computer came faulty and was downgraded in repair, mobo died multiple times.
Then I won an HP Dragon (20.1 inch laptop) and that came broken too.
Even though that card is extremely low-end, it's going to be able to "handle" most games fine.
It easily beats or meets the minimum requirements of most games... Will probably run Sims 3 pretty flawless.
It will get trashed by Crysis, Left 4 Dead, though...
Though the money you save, you could easily buy a gts 250 or gtx 280 no...
Newegg is selling an almost same pc for around 879.99 but its a slimline with a slightly larger hdd.
The last 2 HP's I've owned both went out a year and a half after I bought them for the same reason. Failed motherboard.
I just got a Dell Inspiron with 2.6Ghz Intel quad core, 4GB ram (plus the 2GB from my old HP = 6gb total), and I just signed up for my windows7 upgrade... all for $414. A lot better deal then that HP in my eyes.
Back when I was the IT director for a small public agency, we once received a shipment of 75 HP monitors that were all bad. They sent out a service tech who had to open and test every single one before HP would RMA them, even though they all had consecutive serial numbers and the same batch number/build date. After the 10th one, he tried to call in to just return the whole batch, but was told he needed to confirm every one individually. It took him 2 days.
Less than a week after that, we received a $30,000 server for a DB application that was DOA. It still had the post-build QC checklist taped to the case that said "Failed, return to assembly."
We never purchased another HP computer/server from that point on. They do still make decent laser printers though, at least in my opinion.
just got one similar to that. uh but has amd and ati. but a pretty good deal too.

So what if it has AMD and ATI? They have highend things too...
with the right chipset AMD and ATi is a better combo than Intel and Nvidia. an AMD set up would be cheaper too
...but I dont think he was ever saying that AMD was better or worse. Just stating the fact that the video cards are different.
AMD is worse. Sometimes it's a nightmare getting some games to work on their cards. For example, KOTOR.
Without a nice monitor, this is nothing but a false advertisement of the true cost for owning the system!
This desktop: $650
The monitor I already have: $0
I'd rather have a choice of where I want the monitor or not.
What the hell are you blabbering about?
nah. It's only false advertisement for idiots. Most of us have good enough monitors by now, and those who will be looking at this guy will likely have good enough monitors for gaming.
Ross -- that coupon code had a limited amount of redemptions which has now been reached. I tried buying it an hour ago and was told it was invalid. Got the same result when I tried again just now.
(Rats.)
I"m getting an "invalid coupon code" too. Shucks.
EDIT: Sorry, my previous comment was a reply to user name "Bob"
mine was meant for Bob too... this seems like the first time the comment system actually borked for me, as opposed to the other times, when I was probably drunk .!.
My biggest question after all these years being an Engadget reader; why can we have an updated and drastically improved comment section?
Hearing about the big changes that are coming to Engadget from the podcast, I really hope at least 20% of that is for the comment section!
Not great for gaming... this setting has G210 means 9400GS.
You might add up GTS 250 or 4850 then ok to go.
reeks of a paid for blog
cmon engadget...what is this spam?
Dealnews is awesome. Use the app on my iPhone whenever I need electronics. They show the best deals on the net if you find them early.
Eh I can still build something better myself for less. Not bad for a prebuilt I guess.
i was thinking the same thing but im not sure. the cheapest Blu-Ray drive i have been able to find is $110. getting the rest of the parts for under $550 would be tricky
$60: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106325
You need to learn to look not harder, but smarter!
slickdeals ftw
When putting in the DTM4558 coupon code, it says it's invalid.
Also, I believe it's only $650 BEFORE you add $120 for the Blu-Ray player.
Companies can barely give away full size desktops these days. That is why it is so inexpensive.
your sentence is hard to understand.
Your sentence made perfect sense.
allow me to translate for you, andres:
COMPANIEZ CAN BARELY GIV AWAY FULL SIZE DESKTOPS THEES DAIS
This would look nice hooked up to the plasma serving as a home media center until MS decides to give the 360 mkv support.
That's not a very good deal. You could DIY it for at least a hundred less.
man what do you mean that car's a good deal? heh, i could totally manufacture it myself for less than that, n00b.
Is there a shill for HP on Engadget?
ljk
Nice way for HP to pay for Advertising. But unfortunetly, Lots of here know of a website called Newegg where 650 bucks will get you aLOT more than this, plus less crapware from HP.
Stop posting these stupid deals Engadget, ether you review it or shut the hell up. This is not a deal and we all know it.
put up or shut up. Build me a system on newegg that has ALL of this for $650. Don't forget Windows, and be sure to include everything, despite the fact that you would reuse parts from your old system. That means tack on whatever the price of Vista is right now, as well as a case, power supply, and hard drive. Do it. Or you are a wannabe nerd, which is the worst kind.
snap!..engadget got punked
And how is this tech news????
it's a piece of technology, and it's a deal they are trying to forward to their readers. I appreciate when they forward deals like this.
And they're a blog, they can post whatever the fuck they want...
Gotta agree with Levi.
It's their blog, they can post whatever the hell they want. It's not as though Engadget is going out of their way to talk about some POS machine. It's a good deal, especially for those of us who don't like to waste our weekends building computers. Even if they do get paid by HP...who cares? They're a business just like any other...they need revenue just like everyone else. If you don't like what they post then stop coming to the site...but I doubt you will because it's by far the least biased/best written tech site on the net.
I've reached my limit with the endless comments putting down Engadget/the writers. Hiding behind a computer screen talking shit about someone doesn't prove your masculinity...it makes you an asshole.
