Are you a currently unemployed Software Engineer? If so, here's a recession antidote of an altogether different stripe: Microsoft is taking applications for a LIVE Community Director, whose job it will be to manage "LIVE community strategy and execution across a range of properties, from Xbox LIVE to Windows Mobile." The posting then goes on to discuss how the team will be tasked with constructing a next gen, LIVE-enabled platform across the web, the console, mobile and more... which, you know, sounds a little bit like the
Live Anywhere concept. Either way, it sounds like the company might be doing a little more than merely contemplating its mobile strategy,
Shane Kim's recent interview notwithstanding. What are you waiting for? Dust off that resume and hit the read link.

xbox portable anyone ?
Make the Zune HD an extended configurable controller. Media, Games, mini keypad. Lots of possibilities!
The ZuneHd has already been confirmed to have games and Microsoft's strategy is to compete with the ipod touch, what better way to bring Live to the Zune?
@Puggs
That sounds kinda like... Open Source thinking... Oh boy, cancel it, the Zune HD/Xbox Live Portable is going back into R&D. We can't have it open like that. Scrap it. Wait till next year.
first off all Zunes already have gaming capability via XNA, which you can freely download and develop
and secondly the description says its for Windows Mobile, probably 7
If only I was smrt enough.
puggs is so smart! s-m-r-t!
iPhone killer.
Current gen iPhone killer. Until a new one comes along. Its called the "Jesus" phone for a reason! :D
It's not an iPhone killer until people ditch their existing iPhones and move to the competing hardware en masse.
Haven't really seen many devices manage more than a handful. If anything, the only iPhone killer are new revisions of the iPhone itself.
That said, it's always interesting to see Microsoft slowly forced into a position where they have to compete.
What part of the iPhone are we looking to kill? Popularity? Features (not too difficult...)? Looks (fugly-fone)?
God you fan boys are too easy to wind up.
ermm, it cant be "xbox live" without some form of xbox involved...
Not True. The Xbox Lives Video Marketplace is being changed to "Zune Video" whether or not you have a zune.
Was supposed to have it a loooonnnngggg time ago. Wasn't it called Live Anywhere or something like that?
this is probably them finally doing LIVE Anywhere. Shame ill never see it on iphone. That would be an awesome app.
Apple would reject it though.
It seems that MS is going for the jugular this year, since Xbox live, zune, win7 are all coming together nicely. Neither Sony with its PS3 nor Apple with its Ipod has something similar in the ecosystem to entice a large gaming crowd like MS's installed Xbox base.
Isn't it Windows PHONE now?
Nope. http://community.winsupersite.com/blogs/paul/archive/2009/08/02/misunderstandings-abound-about-the-windows-phones-branding-head-s-up-nothing-has-changed-nothing.aspx
more then likely its going to be an app for playing games on the zune over xbox live
which btw would be SICK!
Not really. You take a popular game, add touch-screen controls and allow that game to update a persons' XBox live Gamerscore? Download game videos on the Zune? Integrate computer, PMP, phone (when WinMo 7...okay, Windows PHONE 7) comes out and a gaming console into one ecosystem?
It's not an (insert product here)-killer, but it would be an amazing feature set and would certainly draw in the gaming crowd looking for a PMP. I mean, if a person can play a XBox Live game on the go and actually have it update their gamerscore it will be a big deal. I mean, people knocked the idea of gamerscore at first, but it's proven to be a feature that is frequently talked about, because people love achievements...give it to them for an on-the-go product, and you'll sell the brand.
Microsoft would seem strangely prescient if they were able to do this- they did popularize the idea of in-game unlockable achievements and it has helped them push their wares. I know it's sad, but I personally would rather buy a game I got achievements in than for another system that doesn't offer them. Now, we even get content on the Avatar Marketplace for getting them, which was an idea floated a while back for Sony's Home, but never materialized.
Oh good, now you will have to pay a monthly fee to use your phone.
This is new?
does the program own Microsoft? given that extra apostrophe in
"...the LIVE Engagement team builds and program's Microsoft's..."
Guess the proofreading budget has been slimmed down or the "check grammar as you type" option in the MS HR Enterprise module is grayed out.
Or they made a small typo, as tends to happen sometimes when writing stuff.
"does the program..."
Your first sentence does not begin with a capital letter. What poor writing on your part, perhaps you need to hire a few proof readers.
