Lenovo IdeaCentre C300 unboxing and hands-on
Large screen nettops are somewhat of a mystery to us. Lenovo's latest, the all-in-one IdeaCentre C300, is certainly a looker on the outside, but the beauty of that screen real estate is hampered by a 1.6GHz Atom processor / integrated graphics unable to handle our internet streaming needs -- Hulu, Pandora, and Netflix were all but a wash. Still, it's pretty light and sturdy, and when powered on absolutely quiet and cool -- we watched four hours of a DVD with a minimum of stutter and little to no heat or machine noise. We're still putting it through the paces, but in the meantime, feel free to live vicariously through our unboxing in the gallery below!

The problem is, that psychologically, whatever you call it, people will react to it as if it is a desktop... and be very disappointed...
Disappointment indeed. I say destroy these "nettops" with fire.
Or save them with a CULV (or something like it) and Ion.
Imo XP always ruins the slick look on the outside.
Tbh these are useless, even for light use.
Maybe this is meant to power those retail kiosks that allow you to search through inventory or scan items for more information. Sort of like the kiosks in Indigo/Chapters/etc.
NO! they need a C2Q if im searching for something an it take more than .2 sec im out of there!
Engadget's clearly been hit hard by the economic downturn, they can't even afford tables to test their products on now. ;)
intel and lenovo must think everyone is still just checking email and talking in chat rooms on aol.
I have grown to hate my dell mini 9...even with osx it's a flash nightmare.
Some people only do just that. My mom loves the Eee 701 I gave her--all she does is read news, check e-mail, Skype, and Messenger on it... somehow, she seems to be immune to the YouTube bug.
What's this about a flash bug? Does it run really slow or something?
All the netbooks I've tested have worked fine. Does this change after time? What are you experiencing?
very hit or miss...I have a dell mini 9 running osx. Netflixs and Hulu are pretty bad unless I use Boxee, safari sucks. Youtube as they ultra compress their uploads.
On the other hand I use aperture, photoshop, and dreamweaver without a hitch.
This means that flash is not optimized for older computers/netbooks tops or net anything.
Keyboard looks like it belongs with a PC from the 90's (retro).
Screen is nice, but why the decoration at the bottom, that puts me off.
Looks like some parachute pants I'm embarrassed to say I wore.
I just like it's dvd rom bcs it's called "rambo"
I saw this at the gdgt west coast meet. It was nice to see though make sense for my mom since all she does is on her computer is internet and email. They also mentioned the price was around the same as a netbook so you can tell it's an underpowered all-in-one desktop. They did mention that they will release a touch screen version sometime in the future but didn't tell me what date. I just went to that booth hoping to win a netbook since they had a contest. I don't remember that floral design though... maybe cuz it was dark in the DNA Lounge
VESA mount anyone?
Also, stupid of them not to include dual core atom.
Looks great for people who just want to email/surf internet, and watch dvds.
Thank God in two months we'll never have to see XP on a new machine again.
sad excuse for a nettop , I wish people would get over the hype of a "nettop / netbook" because sooner or later people who get them want more and end up disapointed with them.
There's no excuse for stutter playing back a DVD in this day and age - let alone "minimum" stutter.
Waste of space.
...so expensive you can't afford a desk or chair...
... just sayin...
Why do they spell Center wrong?
It's correct in British English
thanks for the serial number, Ross ;-p
I have a eeepc 900A with an atom processor and integrated graphics.
It handles full screen hulu and netflix streaming as well as pandora just fine. Why would this one not be able to?
puke windows XP ?????????????? =O
nice design though ;)
The integrated Intel graphics is just for the low-end model. The top model sports an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 with 512MB dedicated memory.

Read up on this blog from Lenovo Malaysia where employees were snapping-up an in-house sale on the C300

Not at all. There are those who really have more basic needs and uses. My mother would be content with a PC like this. And it's not just in developing markets; I'm willing to guess even in the US, Canada and Europe, there are people who similarly need a "nettop"
