Modder hacks PSP for DualShock 2 control, proves kids aren't worthless
Okay, so there's at least a sliver of a chance French modder Flasheur got his inspiration from an eerily similar mod last year that involved Sony's PlayStation Portable and an original DualShock controller, but hey, progress is progress. This time around, we're looking at a rather dashing blue PSP and a DualShock 2, and while the actual modding process looks to have taken a different route (three connections on the rear versus one on the side), the end result is the same. Bliss. Pure bliss. Hop on past the break for an entirely-too-lengthy video demonstrating the hack in action, and hang tight for a DualShock 3 iteration to surface in 5, 4, 3...

And thus the entire purpose of a portable gaming system was negated.
eh....so now I have to carry a DualShock2 around?
Seriously, this is only for those who mod their PSP's to play PS games.
Dude, should clean up the wiring in the back, maybe create a clip/connector. I give him creds though, pretty nice mod/hack. And his tag is pretty cool. It has to be pronounced in a French accent. Le Flasheur!!! Viva le France!
The entire purpose of the PSP was negated when those morons at Sony neglected to add a second analog stick.
I coulda delt with the storage issues regarding UMD or the lack of battery life, but the fundamental need for two analog sticks I cannot look past.
PSP GO should have had two analog sticks PERIOD. They coulda included force feedback using the same mini vibration motors cell phones use, but that's not a big deal. Now the Go offers you the same old PSP experience for more money?
I call that a Successful FAILURE. It will probably sell ok, but it still sucks.
And thus you ignored the fact that the PSP is good for more than just playing Bejewled on the subway.
"I coulda delt with the storage issues regarding UMD or the lack of battery life, but the fundamental need for two analog sticks I cannot look past."
You can deal with shitty battery, a proprietary and now almost dead format, but one analog stick you cannot deal with? How did you play the SNES, N64, or PSX pre-analog?
@XCRANK: It is "Vive la France", not "le!"
Blamage!
France is a chick! ;)
It amazes me how people think another analog stick is the cure all. Am I the only one whose hand gets cramped using just ONE analog? I rarely see anyone bitch about the horrendous location of the first let alone it's sub-par performance (I appreciate what it takes to make an analog stick portable but if it doesn't work well, what's the point).
I use the D-Pad over the analog any time I can with exception to few games. At least the D-Pad isn't that bad.
While we're nerdraging let's talk about the lack of L2, R2 buttons as well. Even including those is a better idea than another analog stick.
iPhone and iPod touch games don't need joysticks
#1 ipod and iPod touch games are designed around the touchscreen display. You don't compare those to the PSP.
#2 1 Analog stick is the reason all the FPS games on PSP are failures and not worth buying.
" Analog stick is the reason all the FPS games on PSP are failures and not worth buying."
Just like Goldeneye on the N64 was a giant failure, right?
Kid, I don't care if you name is "Flasheur"... keep it in your pants, OK?

I hate the playstation controller its not comfortable at all, so not a big improvement.
You'll have to do more than this to convince me that kids aren't worthless
These types of mods have been done so many times, this one is no different. Im sure there are others who have done this , engadget just is looking for a quick story.
the dualshock 3 mod should be easy since it's possible with the resistance game
By means of a PS3
i haven't tried it yet, i just saw a psp with an output to a tv and a DS3. i guess i was forgetting about BT
*wonders if sony will give the PSP GO support to use the dualshock3 controllers?*
doesnt the psp have a usb jack so instead of wasting time he could have just got like a 4 dollar converter and plug the ps2 controller in it + it would look nicer
this was done like 2 years ago by a different modder.
