RIM working on Bluetooth watch, other spellbinding accessories?
We're not sure why we didn't hear more about this way back at RIM's WES conference way back in May, but it was apparently mentioned by VP Antoine Boucher at the time that they're working on a Bluetooth-enabled watch. Furthermore, it's said to be more advanced than the models Sony Ericsson has put forth so far, featuring streaming audio (3.5mm jack on the watch, perhaps?) and Twitter / Facebook updates in addition to the usual things like caller ID and text messages. Note that the image floating around today of this thing isn't real -- it's just a Sony Ericsson MBW-100 with a swapped logo -- so it remains to be seen what this magical wrist accessory will look like, assuming it's real and coming to retail. It seems Boucher also mentioned a high-end Bluetooth headset codenamed "Alpha 1" that'll allow you to stream music and get navigation directions through some sort of totally awesome silicone earpiece boasted to possibly be "the best solution on the market." It's pretty hard to pique a lot of interest these days with something as vanilla and ubiquitous as a headset, but at any rate, it's interesting to see the depth of RIM's apparent commitment to the accessory market right now.

Winnie the Tooh!
"Bluetooh watch"? Sounds like a chinese knockoff of Bluetooth. Is Bluetooth compatible with Bluetooh? ;)
"Streaming audio" sounds to me like it'll stream audio from a watch to a Bluetooth-enabled device or Bluetooth headphones. Still sounds kinda cool, but it'll probably look ridiculous.
I quite like the idea.
I keep wondering if these things will eventually become popularized. They seem so cheesy and impractical.
BT watch, impractical? On the contrary. You can keep your phone hidden away and still get and send SMS:s, receive mails, see who calls, weather forecast etc in a very discreet way in meetings. Check over at XDA-developers where they've got more than 40 functions into the watch.
How 'bout RIM shoes? LCD's on top of the toe box to always display your emails and make your foot itch when you get a new text?
Ahaha good one! i LOLed.
Why on earth would I, or anybody for that matter, want Facebook / Twitter updates on my watch? Maybe I'm not as obsessed as others that my life is dependent upon knowing who is doing what with their lives.
I can understand the phone call notification, maybe the text messaging, because my phone is normally on silent because of work (vibrate is just as obnoxious on it as a normal ringer), and I would like to know if somebody is calling me if my phone is my pocket, 30 feet away etc.
But what do I know...
Weird b/c I ask myself why anyone would want a facebook or twitter account. It looks like for people lacking attention. But what do I know.
I agree with the both of you - and our opinions are probably why we are not social networking billionairs...
"You will never lose money by underestimating the intelligence of the American public" someone once said.
I'm developing Fritter - it is like twitter but only lets you update with a max of seven characters....
i like to keep my watches classy
+1
Bateman says "Don't touch the watch."
+1 you messa my watch, i breaka your face
the idea sounds good, the phone vibrates when i get a call then I can see caller ID and decide to answer. I wonder if I can have the watch and a bluetooth headset. If i see caller id and want to answer I can get the headset out of my pocket... or do i use the phone Dick Tracy style?
What time is it?
Get within 10 feet of me and I'll tell you.
SmartwatchM already has a BB version that makes that watch work with blackberry
BTwill drain my BBs battery quick
How long will the battery last, do you think? Or will it run off of body electricity?
iWatch will be announced in September event! :) :) :)
Maybe they'll copy the old Microsoft watch and call it "BLOT"
BT headset.
I have an older version of the Sony Ericcson Bluetooth watch. It's awesome. Caller ID, Txt Messages display and it buzzes when I got calls or SMSs. I'm still waiting for an iPhone patch to reveal itself. Anyone out there listening?
I just don't find these bulky watches with communication functions appealing; I see how some do, but just take the phone out of your pocket when it vibrates, that can't be that more inconvenient that pulling up your sleeves to check and push tiny watch buttons.
I'm still waiting for a watch that's really awesome.
It's real.
