'Sources' say no Apple tablet until 2010
And so it continues. It seems like just when rumorland is ready to claim this month or this season as the absolute certain sure time of the Apple tablet, those pesky "sources" get cold feed and bump the imaginary release date back a year or so. At least that's what the folks at The Loop are saying. They claim "very reliable sources" have called the September rumor "flat out wrong," and state that we won't see the tablet until the first half of next year sometime. Sigh. Don't give up internet, if we just wish hard enough we know that anything is possible.

PEOPLE! The Apple tablet is availble RIGHT NOT! Just go to the Apple Store and ask for what they call an iPod touch or an iPhone!
I think this is a bad move... Don't see a solid target for a product like this, such a pain in the ass to drag around a tablet the size of a laptop with more limited functionality. This will either never come out, or will flop if it does.
"the size of a laptop with more limited functionality."
So, you know what this device is then? That's great because no one else seems to. Please, can you tell us all the specifications and what it is going to be used for?
i heard that steve jobs may announce it at the press conference on September 6th
I heard that Steve Jobs is a douche and can go kill himself.
I hope "Biffle" is your real name .... it suits you.
Me, Apollonia Persephony Ophelia Bryce, but you can call me Sir.
Hey Apple's fans its time to get back to Windows Mobile, what am i saying Windows Mobile no longer exists Windows Phone. Welcome to the WinPhone world.
wtf winfone? mmm, cheese...
Part of me says, if they would hurry up and announce it, I would wait and get this instead of the new Zune when it comes out, but really, I will probably get both because I am a gadget whore.
A big who cares! I would rather (not sure that I even want one) have a tablet running Windows 7 than something tied to iTunes and the Apple store. You know the price is going to be a killer too. F Crapple!
What I find funny is that every rumor site on the internet is posting one another's conflicting posts from "reliable source" who are "familiar with the product" in a circular and ever growing manner. Gizmodo--->Engadget--->MacRumors--->Daring Fireball--->Engadget----> etc.
It makes for great popcorn reading.
"There is no source!"
It's like a nerd soap opera...
Dang, when the tablet finally gets released, I wonder what Mac fanboys will keep wishing for and get horribly wrong next... until it finally happens several years down the road?
Hmm, how about I start off: OS X on PCs, OS X on PCs, OS X on PCs!
im sad :(
I am good on a 10" iPod touch - I will continue to use my iPhone.
Despite being something of an Apple fanboy, I fail to see very much utility in an Apple tablet. Increase screen res on the iPod touch or make a 10" macbook air with a screen that rotates 180 degrees and locks closed like a tablet.
I'm looking forward more to an Apple netbook. Because there current lowest computer is $600 for a piece of crap without a screen. Netbook would be cheaper, and there's a better market for them than a Tablet. Not many people give a s*** for a tablet. Plus, netbooks are meant for people who want it simple. Apple + netbook = "So easy a caveman can do it."
NERD RAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I better have that tablet in time for the next star trek!!!!! I shall be wearing my spock ears and everything.
Duh...
Apple is still trying to figure out Mult-Tasking on the iPhone. Not even the iPhone is ready for Prime Time.
They rely on Google to make all the Good Apps that ship with the iPhone.
By the way the other half of the iPhone Talent was purchased by Microsoft. Yahoo was the only other player on the iPhone. You are left with a Weather App that is 1980', a calulator, stock apps that still sucks in 3.0 and a camer that still sucks 2 years later.
Apple has no Talent, they rely on the Reject App Store and then steal their ideas and Ban their apps.
Get an OS that can multi-task or get out of the market. I'd suggest going back and see who took the fall for Steve in his stock option scandal.
By the way Steve. Lose the black turtle neck and jeans. You are old. You just look stupid in them. Especially when it's 90 degrees outside.
Apple needed Microsoft to Bail their Asses out and give them a real office app that works with the rest of the world.
Get Flash and you'll have a phone that gives you the Internet in your pocket until then let the FCC Rip Apple and Steve apart.
Wow, someone's got a little bit of an anti-Apple hissy--fit brewing here.
All those "good Google apps" that shipped on the iPod Touch/iPhone? Which are you talking about? Maps and Youtube? Also, what about Yahoo? I don't see any apps on my Touch that was Yahoo developed... I see that my weather and stock apps get their info from Yahoo, but that's pretty much it. Notes, Calendar, the Calculator, Contacts, iTunes, Safari, and the media players are all in house developed.
I don't know what you mean by "a Weather App that is 1980'", but I don't know what you expect from it... it displays the weather in a concise and (as often as the weather can be predicted) correct manner.
As for your other arguments, they all come off as very childish and petty. Almost as bad as some of your previous posts about Steve Jobs and the unfortunate health issues he's had through the last decade.
Who the hell taught you English? Ask for your money back.
But, yes, that's as big a load of pointless nonsense as I have read on Engadget for a while, and that really takes some doing.
... "fshea"?
hehe, I was gonna say...
like shooting FISH in a barrel...
Jesus H, post something please when there is actual news.
Have people no sense at all??? It was quite obvious that this thing isn't going to happen in September as it was obvious they wouldn't change the new iPhone a lot for the 3rd generation. People speculate about all kinds of things and this is no different. Apple tablet?! What is the market share of tablets compared to normal laptops anyway??? I doubt it's big... You don't need "very reliable sources" to understand reality. Apple is so predictable these days and the only thing coming soon will be a new ipod with the big "innovation" called a camera.
If it does indeed exist (And I honestly believe it does. Apple sees an ultra-portable market filled with netbooks, not Air. They know the only way to corner it effectively is release something new thats not really new)
Anyways, it better be a full fledged device. Not a large iTouch. Atom at a minimum. Preferably something better, and at a decent price (less than $800. Like that would happen though)
2010 we have to wait that long for it or a rumor of it? That is just too long to wait I just don't know how long the world can hold off until 2010.
Oh wait this is August with 4.5 months to go until 2010, yeah good luck with that. Summer won't be back until 2010 either
Analysts: those who can't create anything but sit around and talk in cliches for the other cubicle dwellers of the world.
I think it'll be a pretty cool device, something that you can set onto a bracket in the kitchen and stream tv to when your pottering about, grab it off the bracket and take it to bed to read a book or surf the net, bring on holiday with you and connect it into your iphone for a handy portable computer or if your sitting at your desk plug it in and use it as a second monitor, the possibilities are pretty limitless and this thing is aimed at the mainstream, i.e. everyone outside of this blog cause everyone for the life of me hates apple. I for one look forward to checking out what the brainiacs at apple have come up with next, afterall they made the ipod & iphone and look how well those gadgets are doing...
wow engadget, do you think you can hold your load until then?
I heard Apple tablets cure pancreatic cancer
Posting rumors whilst poo-pooing "rumor land".
I guess that's one way to be "in it" but not "of it" right, Engadget?
(rolleyes)
Ever since I got into the habit of looking at phones, tablets, cool little wirelesss routers, etc not in terms of their acquisition price but in terms of the two year total out of pocket - they tend to look a lot less appealing.
I think a tablet would be really cool. Not sure it it's a toy or useful - but I'd be willing to bet $700-$800 to find out. When I look at a total 2 year cost with 3G subscription of something closer to $800 + 24 * $70 ($2,480) the "what the hell" factor quickly goes down the drain.
$2,500 for my phone. $2,500 for my MiFi hotspot. $2,500 for my tablet. Don't think so.
Lots of talk going round... "sources" here and "sources" there :) I just hope apple doesn't dissapoint, people seem to really look forward to ANYTHING they put their name on, so this had better live up to the hype. There may not be a market for this type of gadget now, but if it has some innovative groundbreaking features, great design (and a fancy marketing push) then who knows. Let's wait and see.

If those images are to be viewed as even close to a product Apple are really working on, why don't the simply have done with it and go with an LCARS interface. Associated sound effects too please.
who're these sources? they could just be trying to throw everyone off to make the september launch more dramatic...
You can buy a Tablet right now. Fujitsu makes a really nice one. So, what's the problem?
Gateway makes one too. I'm even running an OS other than XP on it.
I would buy an Apple tablet if there is no monthly fee, it can hook up to an external monitor, and my Apple Bluetooth & mouse works.
Soooo....
Its going to take APPLE another year to release something that has been around since 2000???
I guess those convertible Netbooks are scaring the bejeezus out of them.
What is the game depicted on the tablet and iPhone? And, is it any good?
The only use I see for tablets without a keyboard is when you are standing and noting things, and you hold it like a clipboard. This utility is great for some scenarios and this is why tablets, outside of Apple sell. The problem I have is, holding a tablet like a PC can be a little precarious. You never actually cradle it firmly. I think this product would come out and they would be snatched out of peopl's hands left and right.
Scenario:
tablet guy: "dude walking down the street messing around with my tablet, I looks so cool."
criminal: "Well this looks easy."
*Yoink*
criminal: "see ya sucka"
tablet guy: "HEY!" sulk.
I once said that the day i'd buy an apple product would be the day they'd make a tablet pc. I'm a man of my word, so if it comes out i'll be sure to give it a chance.
Is apple tablet hardware equivalent to Duke Nukem forever?
How old is this rumor? Five years? Ten?
Do not want. Aside from the fact that I switched to PC (Windows 7) and am enjoying it, there's the fact that an Apple tablet PC will be priced out of the ballpark.
Not interested.
I despise rumours. Every time these rumours start floating around on the internet, over half of my customers think it's true, and they'll come to me with "So, when the Apple Tablet supposed to ship?" As if I know this? C'mon.
These rumours kill my sales. They're a bunch of bogus lies unless an authoritative source says otherwise.
