Apple iPAD outed in Borders bookstore survey?
Now, we don't really know what to think about this one, considering how many rumors are swirling about upcoming Apple devices at the moment, but make of it what you will. An online survey currently being conducted by Borders bookstore lists the "Apple iPAD (large screen reading device)" in one of its questions about e-readers. There along with the Amazon Kindle, the Kindle DX, the Sony Reader and the Plastic Logic Reader is the option to check "I plan to buy an Apple IPAD this year." It's safe to say that there are two options here: either Borders has access to some privileged Apple tablet / Kindle killer info that we, the wondering masses, do not (and yet is still making blunders like "Blackberry" and "Apple iTouch") -- or they're just assuming that there must be some truth to all the fuss. And hey, who could blame them? Like we said, we're not going to put too much stock in it, but go ahead and hit the read link to take the survey for yourself -- but be forewarned: you're going to have to dish on your opinion of Dan Brown before you get to the good stuff.

iPAD? what a pathetic name....
which is a point in favor of the school of "Borders knows nothing but is believing the rumors that something is going to come out and wants to get a feel for whether they should fire some folks to have the money to hop on that train if they can"
agreed
its the MACiPad for all the apple fanbois on their periods.
iPAD.....With wings!!
"Mom, do you ever have one of those day when you feel not so fresh?"
"No, honey...I use an iPAD, with wings!!"
I was actually thinking more along the lines of the Apple execs saying "iPAD my pockets with ideas like these"
iPAD= Personal Assistant Device? xD
iPAD? That's just iPod for those with a Bostonian accent. =)
I was trying to think of a better name, and iSlate is the best I can come up with.
Life imitates Star Trek yet again.

I agree, I think it's a pathetic name. And as many have written, it has a.) been done before [mad t.v.] and b.) sounds like a slack-ass attempt at naming. It doesn't have the same ring to it as the other products. Despite all the talk of "un-creative" naming for products, at least they're consistent.
Overall, I think the survey sounds like a spoof. The thing that tipped me off was the reference to the device as an 'iTouch'. Apple doesn't sell that product. It's marketed as the iPod Touch and I just don't see Borders referring to it by such a colloquial name. Now, if the survey is by a third party and someone failed to spell-check then perhaps it's legit. But an oversight like that just reeks of fake sauce. *more than 2 cents*
Apple(Borders?) taking naming advise from MAD TV?

@Mike P.
Almost spilled my drink :D
Internets for you my good sir!
Yeah, everyone is laughing about it now. In six months, Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Lenovo, etc. will be tripping over themselves to copy it.
Ed, we're not laughing at the technology (which might be awesome for all we know and work really well), we're laughing at the name =)
Applet
I thought it said iPAID(too much)
webmaster hoax
most probably
iPad does seem a bit lack, for a name from Apple.
At least you can relate iPad it to a pad of paper.
What does "pod" have to do with music?
The gizmodo article on the apple tablet had me wondering about possible names for the apple tablet. When you think about it, iPad fits with this description. Take a look, and see what you think.

Here's a clue
it will be called the Macbook.
Yes, because the iPhone name is very creative.
They call their laptops 'Books' (iBook, MacBook) as opposed to PC lappys which are generally called notebooks.
Books > Notebooks, so maybe Pages > Tabs?
iPagelet? iPage? iBooklet? MacBooklet? I dunno...
Remember, nobody loved "MacBook" when it came out.
In other news... people keeps calling the iPod Touch "iTouch", so I wouldn't freak if this thing was about to be called MacPad, or something like that, and got mis-named in this list.
MacPad. I love it.
Apple iPad sounds like a Irish NY Police officer from the 30s trying to say iPod.
iPad is a spoof done by Mad TV for a feminine hygiene product that connects to a computer via USB.
Well then it will be interesting to see the results of this survey wont it?
Is it possible that instead of a tablet PC like device, the iPAD is an e-reader. I mean thinking about it, selling electronic books on itunes seems like a pretty good deal for apple if they can bring forth a product like the kindle or Sony reader. I personally wouldn't mind seeing another electronic ink reader make it to the market to increase public awareness about the tech and hopefully bring down the prices a little bit due to competition.
iPAD is a really bad name. They could do better than that...honestly?!
I hope that's not the real name. Totally sounds like a female hygiene product.
*cough* *cough*

Yeah, iPAD is a horrible name. We'd expect something clever from Apple. Something like.......iPhone.
It'll be called MacPad
yeah but they also said iTouch which makes them sound ignorant already
Umm, there's nothing called the iTouch? Are you referring to the iPod touch? Because that's what it's called.
Ruffy was referring to the fact that Borders called the iPod Touch an iTouch
As someone that corrects others who pronounce Porsche as a single syllable word, I still find it funny the amount of panty bunching that results from the use of the word iTouch.
Lots of people do. So what?
The funny thing would be if they actually named their new device the iTouch just to screw with people.
I didn't know Borders referred to it as the iTouch, I thought the poster was calling it that. I apologize.
@jon My 'panties' aren't in a bunch, it just sounds annoying. And perverted, haha.
When people are thinking of a Apple Tablet I don't think they are thinking about a E-Reader.
MacsiPad
brilliant
Win!
Apple Byte ftw!
People it's not his original idea...Brian Tong came up with it.
I feel forced to award you at least 13 internets. bravo.
both camps should get a laugh out of this one.
@Jack,
It doesn't matter who came up with the name.
All that matters now is if Apple really does decide to call it the iPad,
then MacsiPad will most likely take off as the leading derogatory to the product.
Reminds me of the story about some hard disk technicians working on an external drive enclosure that held a petabyte of data, and they suggested to name the product: Peta File.
Yeah, can you imagine the enthusiasm on their faces as they said it, it's the Peta File!
