And the Flip Video... a separate device that will only ever be a camcorder... is a good idea?
If the video on the new iPod Touch is as good as the video on the iPhone 3GS, it will be a good device. Plus the ability to upload video over WIFI, built-in editing, etc.
@Micheal Scrip I just think it'a a bit redundant. Most people carry around digital cameras and camera phones so, why would people need a camera on theit iPod? It makes NO sense. And the flip or any other camcorder is good if I ONLY need a camcorder.... and I'm not a fanboy just simply unbiased
@brr404 >> "You call cutting out portions of a video editing? -Fail"
Well, considering that other pocket cameras have NO editing at all... this wouldn't exactly be a fail.

Think of it this way: Apple started out making computers. Then they entered the MP3 player market. Then the PMP market. And the phone market.
What if Apple wanted to make a direct competitor to the wildly popular Flip Camera... iCam?
But instead of making a dedicated device... they put that iCam inside the iPod.
There are many scenarios where it will make sense. There are people that don't have an iPod Touch or a Flip Camera. They could buy an iPod Touch and now have video recording capabilities. You're right... most camera phones record video... yet the Flip Camera is still a top-seller. Why is that? Cell phone video cameras suck... hence the rapid growth of pocket camcorders. Most digital still cameras also record video... yet the Flip camera is still being sold. Why?
I have a Blackberry Curve. It has a shitty camcorder. I don't want to buy an iPod Touch *and* a Flip Camera. This is good for me. And I can't be the only one.
It just sounds like you think people won't buy an iPod Touch if it has a camera. So what if your digital camera, SLR, cell phone and Flip can record video? If the iPod Touch has a video camera... and can do things like upload from the device over WIFI... how is that worse than the other cameras?
Speaking as someone who owns a nice dslr a g1 and flip ultra hd and an 32gb ipod touch.... it would be nice to have a camera on my ipod, not only is the camera on my g1's video kinda sucky, I cant tell you how many times I've been out and about and not had video capability. plus the on the fly quick editing on the iphone would presumably be on the ipod and would be great for shooting quick little videos while on vacation and offer you the ability to edit video all without a laptop and then upload it over hotel wifi. I'm all for device unification and the less clutter I have to pack the better.
The video we all just watched was taken on an iphone. idk about all of you but that is 100x better than my cellphone. I wouldn't mind having that capability on my ipod.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
iPod/camera duo is an idiotic idea. They're running out of ideas.... I just can't wait until they unveil the iPod w/ integrated flashlight next year.

iPhone 3G F?
The "F" is for Flash.
(I'm sooo gonna get downvoted for that...)
And the iPhone/iPod with the integrated fart button... which won't even be a button...

But wait!; there already an app for that.
