Myvu's Crystal EV is 30 percent more Crystal, 0 percent less ugly
We know, we know -- we're a little harsh on these so-called "personal media viewers," but really, when's the last time you saw someone you would actually speak to wearing these in public? Precisely. For the introverts and social outcasts who just couldn't care less about public perception, Myvu is introducing its very latest in video eyewear: the Crystal EV. Sporting the same SolidOptix technology as the original Crystal, these buggers boast a 64-inch equivalent screen size, which amounts to a 30 percent uptick over the originals. Curiously enough, Myvu asserts that these are available to purchase right now, but it completely failed to dish out a price. Bollocks.[Via Coolest Gadgets]

Can't they make them more Visor like?
All you need is a woman's hair thingy to put over it.
Jordi La Forge fan club approved.
Geordi La Forge !!!!
I guess if i was on a plane i could care less what people thought ... But anywhere else .. i couldn't do it
Same here but for a different reason. On a plane you're less likely to be robbed or beaten up while distracted by a 64" screen. On the subway not so much.
I think you mean you couldn't care less...
Wow you're so smart .. You win ! Puke
what's the resolution?
Full VGA quality delivers 640 X 480 resolution with our widest field of view and a big-screen feeling.
thanks :)
was hoping for at least 720p (not that I'd buy these anyway)
720p and under $200- then I'd buy
If they could just make them look more like normal sunglasses it wouldn't be so bad. Even a set of "old people" sunglasses would be better.
I have never seen a pair of these in store, I would have to try them before I would by them, but the thing, is, I wouldnt want to be seen wearing them in public...catch 22.
Since when did public perception become a deciding factor in buying electronics?....I expect more about tech specs/video quality etc than a personal opinion on aesthetics on a gadget blog.
NEEEEEERD!
Yes, but I've always been concerned that these things will have the same result as the Opti-Grabs.
Those would have been cool looking sunglasses in the early '80s, but not now. Would be nice to hear more on the quality of them though.
The concept's nice, but this isn't 2005 with the 5G iPod the main video device out there. These days there's 840x480 4" cell phone screens, 11.6" 720p netbooks screens soon to be combined with Ion, MIDs and so on. I don't know why people think reading a Kindle or playing iPhone games on the public transportation is less wierd than watching video on a pair of glasses, but they do.
Seriously, when Japanese have ditch their eyetrek couple years ago, we now see the same technology in a slighlty smaller form factor in the US market. I rather want an augmented reality glasses than this private porn viewer in public.
That's what I'm talking about. Give me some wrap-around sunglasses with transparent OLED displays, and I'll give you money.
ummmm....they are not sunglasses they are a tv.
If you want to watch tv in public like on a train, then why not? You would do it to be different if you are doing it for fashion then you are not the type of geek that would buy these anyway.
for 300 they make for a cheap tv..
tomatolord
hm, wonder if you could combine these with that air mouse/toy gun combo playing crysis from awhile ago; could make for some good fun
Shame it's not 720p .
Oakley needs to get into this act...
The price is on Myvu's website here: http://www.myvu.com/Myvu-SoloPlus-C26.aspx
$99.95 for the glasses, $124.95 for a bundle including some extra cables and a case.
Nevermind, this appears to be an entirely different product line.
That's not bad at all. It might be useful for people with small apartments who can't get a TV.
that's OK, bethebunny, you gave the price for the incorrect photo they used for the article. They got the picture wrong and say there's no price yet both are on their website...and it's $299 for the base model.

I can't believe they still haven't released a widescreen model. I own the previous generation (Crystal 703) and the original Solo for iPod. The Solos were great because they had only one cable and drew their power from the iPod. The Crystals are a vast improvement in resolution, size and image quality, unfortunately they only make a "universal" model which has a battery and a maddening array of cables and connectors. Still way more usable in coach than a netbook, but they'll have to come up with a widescreen one-cord model before I upgrade.
I think their pretty radical looking, then again I'm from the 80's. *goes back to 1985*
The 90s called, they want their resolution back. Give these things 720p so they are useful.
Ok how long till we can get a handheld gaming console that uses these things? I mean think about it.. the biggest problem with most handhelds is the tiny screen.
If you enlarge the screen, it becomes less portable. However, with these, you effectively have a TV screen. The console would only be limited by the size and shape of the controls, so you could effectively have a gaming console the size and shape of a PS3 or X-box controller.
