Paul Sr. demonstrates OCC's electric chopper, Fox News seems mystified
Paul Teutul Sr. may not be the most eloquent of men, but he's good at what he does and has developed quite a following both on and off the reality TV circuit. Apparently none of those followers work at Fox News, as he got something of an odd reception when going on air there to show off Orange County Choppers' latest creation: the Siemens Smart Chopper. A different sort of bike than either the Zero S or Brammo we've ridden this year, the Chopper has a 27hp electric motor and a top speed of over 100mph while still managing a 60 mile charge. It sports LED lighting and recycled components to further up its green cred, a combination that seems to, for some reason, raise the ire of the hosts of Fox and Friends. Or maybe they're just trained to always sound loud and incredulous. Decide for yourself in the video after the break.

52% above green probably means his building feeds energy back into the electrical grid.
Or their new building uses 52% less energy than their previous building. Or maybe they use 52% less energy than an average company that size.
Whatever it is, it's is saving them money now and in the future.
Is Engadget owned by NBC or something? First they bust on Red Eye for no good reason, now this. I don't see how bashing Fox News helps the reporting of gadget stuff.
That was a perfectly ordinary puff interview. Even Maddow couldn't have found a conspiracy here.
Too bad only Rupert Murdoch could afford a bike like this. Arghhhhhhhhhh!
I dislike Fox News as much as the next guy, but Engadget really sold this as, "oh Fox-you guys are stupid". There wasn't really anything outlandish or goofy in the video. Do you really think Katie Couric wouldn't have offered a similar response? Maybe you guys are just on edge because there aren't enough Apple or mobile phone stories to cover today.
But yeah by FOX standards - this is pulizer-worthy!
Fox is the only unbiased network. All you dimwits that can't understand that are brainwashed by the liberal media. All you Fox haters think CNN is so fair, give me a break.
Rupert Murdoch and all of FOX are aligned against anything "green" so of course his reception was going to be less than amiable.
Woa! Am I being censored here :), I keep posting this and it gets removed after like 5 minutes?
What a lame story,.. I mean by Engadget? I know nothing about this gadget after reading and watching that video (since I can barely believe what PaulSr says).
Seriously engadget, I feel like your going glam hollywood - doing your podcasts (hearing yourselves talk), going on Fallon, talking only about the Pre and iPhone. GEESH, I want gadget news, I want to know about cool new gadgets!
Hey I think it may just stay up this time, ... seriously though Engadget bashing is so yesterday. Lets move on to something worth our time like Fox?
On the one hand Engadget has a favorable predisposition towards Apple... - 1
On the other hand, Engadget has an unfavorable predisposition towards Fox .... + 1
Guess your biases cancel each other out in my eyes.
FoxNews reaction is pretty realistic here. Motorcycles (not scooters) are about the open road. So - 100mph top speed, 60 mile range? Who cares? This kind of thing is just another headline-grabbing gesture that no one who actually likes or wants a motorcyle will even consider buying.
That's why you get that kind of reaction.
actually, being from New York City, motorcycles here are about weaving around stopped busses and finding a parking space. Open road has nothing to do with it.
Some people want small, efficient daily transportation. The average commute for a New Yorker who lives and works in the city is about 5-6 miles. You could easily go a week between charges with a vehicle like this.
Oh I see, so fox needs to cater to every enviro wacko motorcyclist in New York.. ok gotcha!
"Show me the future, Walk around the bike a bit" a bit dramatic haha
He should have brought a spokesperson.
Not bad though.
Oh good, he's wearing sunglasses.
Jimmy oh Jimmy.. how you reflect the typical socialist of our sad generation. The fairness doctrine removes power from the people to determine what should stay on the air and what should not. Clear Channel sponsored air "left" america for several years and it failed, do you know why? ... a clue ... "THE COUNTRY IS BY FAR CENTER RIGHT"... sponsors pulled out and thus so did clear channel. Government should not be allowed to determine who gets to be on the air waves... we the people.. you know the Republic .. can decide that!
I heard nothing derogatory in the piece. He has been on the show many times and is always treated respectfully. Looks like your looking for an agenda. Believe me, Paul Teutul is closer aligned to Fox news than any other cable news network.
Get your facts right.
You want biased, check out MSNBC. Fox has nothing on them...CNN and all the other news sources all have biases and if you can't see through all of them and believe everything you see on them than you need help
Wow DudeManDude. You should go work for Fox News. You're about as intelligent as a piece of horse dung. Having our whole economy based on fossil fuels, when those fossil fuels are being consumed at an alarming rate, and having nothing else to fall back on as soon as supply cannot keep up with demand (this is known as reaching and passing 'Peak Oil', Google it), is idiotic. Not to mention the fact that we have to get our oil from places that have lots and lots of people who would rather see us dead than alive means that even getting the oil is problematic and makes us compromise our own ideals in order to get it. But somehow in your intellectually superior mind (cough, cough) you seem to believe that moving towards renewable energy sources is somehow a flawed strategy. You're a moron. Reply to this when you've grown a brain and developed a sense of logic and reason. Idiot.
"Raise the ire of the hosts of Fox and Friends"? If that's ire then I'm full of ire every day. Sounds to me like they were joking around with him. He makes a living making loud things based on internal combustion engines. I'm sure even he would perfer a gas engine over an electric one so they poked fun at him.
What was wrong with that interview? They have to asks questions as if they know nothing, because not everybody in the audience may be well versed.
i'm sorry but no one in their right mind would give credibility to the network that had the blue puck. fox is the biggest running joke in world when it comes to news and sports. and it was sports that killed them long before news with the blue glowing puck.
that aside i do not see ire Tim is talking about. Paul could have let his son do the presentation and the facts would have been better but besides that it seemed ok.
We just came back from OCC they were working on that bike. Its cool to see it done.
From pics2
I tried to post a photo but it did not work. Here is a link to a pic of the bike before they finished. http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/HJkQUpvBrWBIiLPLwAoMXA?feat=directlink
The innovative bike is getting lost in the vitriolic shuffle. OCC has come a long way!!
In fact, all the yakkers, haters, spewers and spin doctors really need therapy.
> Ever notice how few bikes are parked outside psychiatrists' offices?
So when you get those panties in a knot, get on a chopper and putt !!!
Yeah Im done with this. Get the politics outta here you idiots have no place there.
When I want to talk politics with idiots, I call my dumbass friends who cant afford to buy any gadgets because they dont know how to apply themselves.
Have fun with that comment, sheep.
1 million for a prototype motorbike is actually pretty cheap, I remember the door handles on the Ford Falcon costing 3 million a few year back to design.
I love the fact that Engadget deleted my comments that were respectfully critical of this piece, all while trying to underhandedly make fun of a news organization.
CLASSY.
They actually got the look.
It's pretty cool that it'll be a decent day-trip or weekender, but though beautiful it might be on the bulky side for a commuter.
However I find that people who buy this style of bike also have the occasional burning urge to get out there and really turn the Earth under those tires for a while. I'm talking runs, solo trips, etc.
Moreover, there's something about the sound of the proper chopper - beautiful powerful deep energy whose sound runs so low in pitch you can feel it in your body - which, just like the healthy V8, gives you a sense that you and the vehicle are one; and in a way the amount of feedback you get while riding it really makes you able to become one with the machine.
It's a very uniquely liberating experience for those who have studied the machines through working on them inside and out and who have learned to really pay attention to their vehicles.
I can't claim the exact level of expertise I'd like here as over the years my '65 Mustang (which is not a motorcycle) has told me so many things about its physical condition, endurance, needs, emergencies.. When you're diagnosing and repairing as much of it as possible yourself, you get to where you can very accurately feel a lot of things (seriously continuous, useful feedback, I mean) from the vehicle, which makes you feel as though it were really attached to your nervous system. It's so beautiful because you're in this powerful state of aloneness hurtling over the land...
I think considering this post and my response makes me better understand the path those robotic prostheses are likely to take over the next few years as well as the evolution of physical therapy given to patients receiving those prostheses. They need to give a WHOLE BUNCH more feedback somehow but maybe it doesn't have to be through the brain; maybe it could be through having more variation in the feedback of individual parts. Perhaps each joint in the finger should produce a bit different pitch of vibration, or some combinations of vibrations much like DTMF does...
Thoughts?
I wonder if her tits are environmentally friendly, I doubt it tho.
How dare you delete my comments Engadget. I will be taking my gadget news hunting elsewhere.
Dumb Posters on dumb MoonbatGadget.com. Whats progressive about a progressive?
........wtf. SRSLY?! a million? ITS OVER 9000?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?
I love the way Paul Sr. says , "Yeah, a million dollars," like he's trying to get her out of the panties.
How much does it weigh and what's the acceleration like?
Those who tend to villify Fox News are more often than not very content to support the all-Obama-all-the-time love affair the MSM broadcasts 24/7 and the overwhelming leftwing statism reflected in so much of our news and entertainment industries. That's their right, of course, but their abuse of Fox seems somewhat an over-reaction to so small a part of the opinions to which the American people are constantly exposed. Yes, many on Fox are bombastic, sometimes even foolish, and even occasionally outright wrong, as is the case with all other broadcast organizations. But, much of what they broadcast is real and verifiable information that is unavailable to the average person elsewhere, due to the tens of thousands of editorial and policy decisions based on fulfilling the liberal agenda which get exercised in so many of our newspapers, magazines, wire services, network news organizations, foundations, public school and university faculties, union halls, TV entertainment and motion picture studios, and even the boardrooms of many of our largest, rent-seeking corporations. Against this, the "superior" tone, exagerated criticisim and approbation of so many Fox-haters starts to look like fear of those "speaking truth to power."
As far as the interview which sparked this discussion, the gentleman from OCC was obviously on the news/entertainment show as lightweight fare for morning viewers, a type of segment usually shown near the end of a time slot, which is usually handled with some striving to be amusing in its approach. What was supposed to be a thinly veiled unpaid advertisement for Siemens and it's "green" bonifides turned merely silly, because the man from OCC was not informed or facile enough to be an effective spokesman and because Brian was a little to flippant in asking an obvious question: "why have you of all people, abandoned your most important trademark - the large and very loud chrome-ladened gas-eating internal combustion caliopes which have made you famous?" Overall, not a very earthshaking event, but it brought the Fox-a-phobes out of the woodwork.
This post was deleted. I guess it was too offensive...
"KEEP POLITICS OFF MY TECHNOLOGY SITE"
That is all...
Why the snarkiness against Fox News? Just report the news, guys. Geesh.
Is this a test? Stand back from the keyboard. It's OK. Remain Calm. THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT. LOL See what happens when unwanted opinion gets int the way? I'm glad we have a free society to express our views. It's a great country we live in...a melting pot I've heard it referred to. SO, TIm Stevens has caused me to turn on my "Anti TIM" filter. I'll be checking articles I read in the future an deleting them. BECAUSE Tim forgot the basic premise here. I wanted to read about technology, the cool bike, not an opinion about any news agency. Opinions about a product or it's short comings is more of interest here than a wanta be writer injecting his "current opinion of the day". Kudos Tim your topic and opinion drew attention.
How can Engadget possibly read into this clip that the fox hosts are anything but interested in Paul Sr.'s description of the bike. Talk about biased reporting. What do you want them to do, hug the guy. (The one host almost did hug Paul)
I love the angle that Fox is so one sided but they conveniently forget the bias of CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, NYTimes, LA Times, NPR, etc., etc., etc., etc.
Amazing how Fox is so disliked but is such a clear leader in the numbers. Amazing how talk radio is lead by right leaning shows.
Love that bike by the way.
Chennai Corporation buildings will soon get solar photovoltaic panels, akin to those installed by Energy development agency on the rooftop of its building in Chennai. While planning for a renovation, it had dawned in the minds of rulers to give a try to modern day technologies. A move indeed as this method of power production is completely eco-friendly and does not release any harmful substances unlike conventional methods of power production
Sun’s energy can never be emptied out with usage or by passage of time. So if the feasibility of extending the set-up to household and commercial units is well established, then that would be a revolutionary process. You would have studied in physics in your early school days that energy can be transformed from one form to another without any loss during the transit process. This idea – the brainchild of scientists has started paying added that the proposed multi speciality hospital modern auditorium at in Chennai would also go solar.
The focusing collectors present in the panels can withstand temperatures as high as 40000 degree Celsius. Its amazing this heat will then be passed on to heat water flowing through the circuit to generate steam. The electrons in the special type of photovoltaic cells are made to come out from the influence of the nucleus of the atom and by applying proper bias or voltage, these electrons are made to move in a particular direction. What is electric current energy which is felt in the direction opposite to the movement of electrons? So, the power is produced!!
I don't watch much TV, and the small amount of time that I spend doing so each week is not wasted on any of these "news" networks. I also usually like the little bits of humor and commentary that can be found here. That being said, Tim's post was too focused on Fox. More gadgets and less color, please.

Wait, you're looking for logic among "Fox & Friends"? Seriously? Do you not watch the Daily Show?
Apparently, they are going on a tour with the smart chopper and the makings of smart chopper is airing on this October. Check out more about the smart chopper buzz @ http://twitter.com/SmartChopper
their facebook page is on the way, as well.
