Zune HD's HD Radio breaks through the FCC as well
Can you feel it? The Zune HD is really really real, and the FCC just rubber stamped another internal component: the onboard HD Radio. With a September 15th release date already on the books, it's not exactly a surprise that the wireless insides of the device won't fry your babies, but it's still a comforting thought. And check out that sexy label! Totally worth the second trip to FCC land.

You don't need special earbuds to use the radio in a Zune, any will work.
or you could just proof-read. Just sayin'.
What is this, an iPod Shuffle? No need for proprietary headphones. The copper (or gold, if you're classy) wire in your headphones which connects the speakers to the device's headphone contacts will also act as an antenna for the radio. Basically, if your headphones have a wire, they will work.
I can't wait for this innovating product. I'll love it even more after it comes out, everyone will forget that this is 5-6 year old product type. The thing I'll love the most is, Apple, somehow will get credit for inventing the tablet format computers, disregarding the countless HP and Toshiba tablets that came before it.
Go ahead and down rank me for that rant. I deserve it. Replied in the wrong tab.
Is this for real?
It's like it's been written by a four-year-old. C'mon Microsoft, You're sending documents to the FCC in with grammatical errors, colloquial language and the default font on Microsoft Office 2007?
You sicken me, What would Ballmer say?

Wow, for a multimillion dollar company, that's pretty bad.
It's probably a Chinese or Taiwanese engineer working for the ODM that will make the Zune.

"We, the undersigned we aware that..."
C'mon, Apple, You're [sic] sending documents to the FCC in with [sic] grammatical errors.
When the first two iterations of the Zune were released, the Apple fanboys mocked the Zune. But now, it is almost as if they are desperate in their attacks. Getting a bit concerned about Apple's control of the market?
Touché... But, That's not to say that the expectation for correct grammar and tense in a legal document is the hallmark domain of the Apple 'fanboy' community. I mean, I own an iPhone - But, that doesn't make me an Apple 'Fanboy'. Just someone whom values the critique of the English Language.
I think the Zune HD is looking to be a really promising product, that really could act as a serious market competitor so long as Microsoft make correct design choices such as launching the product in various international markets and providing support for other operating systems. It looks like are really well designed product, which make Microsoft seem like they're changing their market thesis; Their new products like Windows 7 and Zune HD are really exciting for a company that's previously been a dominant market leader with little innovation.
You say you own an iPhone, but you are not a Apple 'fanboy', just as I own an iPhone, iTouch, and Mac Mini, but somehow I have been labelled all those thing in my name up above.
And I was giving a critique of your use of the English language. The point is that mistakes are made; you made mistakes in your use of the English language, Apple made mistakes, and Microsoft makes mistakes. But you claim they "sicken you" and complain about their choice in fonts?
All of the arguing over proper grammar and spelling, yet you still said "iTouch". Tsk, tsk.
@Prokanda:
I have said in the past that I know the name is iPod Touch but call it iTouch because it tends to get under the skin of the most devout Apple fanboys. Besides, I was not the one who started the grammar wars, just pointing out to somebody who complained about Microsoft's poor grammar that others, including the person complaining, also have done the very thing being complained about.
I merely mentioned that is wasn't really correct practice to carry out such colloquialism on a legal document that's being send to a government body. Nevertheless, I may have accidentally added an "re" to an "a", but I'm not exactly sending my Engadget comment to the FCC.
I can't wait for the 15th.. Looks like this will be an amazing showcase for Tegra in every way
I can't wait to see some new competition in the PMP field. The iPod needs to be taken down a notch and I think the Zune HD and the Creative Zii Egg will be able to take some of that market share away.
I'm not saying that I dislike Apple. I just feel like Apple has gotten away with owning the competition with innovation from 5 years ago. I can't wait to see what innovation will come out of some friendly competition.
hi, i live in the uk, if i bought one of these would i be able to listen to the regular fm radio since hd radio isn't around in teh uk?
Yes it would still work. Most places in the states have a few HD radio stations, but not all have switched. It will do HD and FM.
Also, you can turn off HD Radio to save on battery life.
with the stupid crackdown on internet radio outside the US, it'll be a nice feature if they wish to sell the Zune HD internationally.
IF they decide to sell the Zune HD internationally.... :(
was is not Sony that came up with the first portable music player. So does that mean every one else copied it. Instead of worrying about who copied what, why don't people stop and see who took it to the next level instead.
