Mysterious Android MID gets more pictures, still no name
The Pocketables crew keep teasing us with more visuals of a purported unbranded Android MID, this time throwing up a good size comparison in the form of a Sony VAIO P lurking in the background. Very little can be said at this point without exploding the story into wild speculation -- we'll leave that part to you, dear readers -- so we'll stick to the seemingly self-evident stuff. The above screenshot indicates SD expansion and phone capabilities, and there are a few more after the break that show off an impressively svelte physique. Of course without a substantiated source and millions of skilled Photoshop artists out there, these pictures could still be fake -- but aren't they pretty?

iTablet?
Somebody beat Apple to it :)
No this is actually useful.
How can it be anything apple, drop the whole everything that comes out is apple stick.
I think you mean shtick, or is the Apple tablet really an Apple Stick!
RUMOR CONFIRMED!!
Just referring to the recent mockups of the Apple table that look just like this one...
mmm apple on a stick
More like an iriver or Archos.
obvious itablet, look at the iphone/ipod connector in lower LH corner.
It looks great, itablet will replace iphone.
=)
That has got to be just a shopped 2nd gen i pod touch. Its just turned on its side and the power cord is just going into where the sleep button is. It doesn't even appear to be plugged in. Also, in the last pic you can see the volume buttons.
actually, it looks kinda like an apple device.... just sayin...
To me it almost looks like a Sony device, looking at the fonts and setup of that main shot. Looks PS3/PSP-esque.
At the first glance at the photo I was certain is was Apple, until I read the "android" in the title...
For some reason, I am still on the edge about Android as anything other than a phone operating system.
Ya, I have the same gut feeling, but on the other hand there aren't many other options. Maemo 5 isn't finished yet, WebOS is PIM-centric and Apple doesn't license iPhoneOS.
The good news is that it is open source, so even if we feel it might be lacking somewhat in the multimedia department now, OEMs can add all the capablities they like to it to bring it up to speed. I'm thinking things like VLC-level format support and CoverFlow.
@DR
Deep multimedia support and coverflow really have nothing to do with Android being open source, they can simply be thrown in as preinstalled applications. That could be added by anybody sporting an SDK even if the OS's source code wasn't available.
The OS itself really has little to no multimedia features at all, it's all just a matter of somebody writing the correct application suite to support it. Remember, Android is extremely app-centric, even things like the Phone Dialer, the Multimedia Player, and the Home Screen are nothing more than applications installed on the device and they are all user-replaceable without changing the OS's source code.
"Factory Data Reset" is an Android phrase. On WinMo it's called Hard Reset, and if it was Apple it is called something in line of Device Reset.
So I think there's a fair chance that this is an Android device... Maybe.
Oppo s39
Thats my guess.
Looks like it...
Apple's drunk on google?
Possibly creative?
the button on the last photo looks awfully like the iphone's volume rocker..
iTablet running android??!! THAT would be... (___)!!! Fill in the blank.
Shit
cool?
big antitrust case?
... your mom.
"big antitrust case?"
How?

looks like a 2nd gen ipod touch photoshopped
all I see it's a Japanese Keybored on that laptop
Its a concept from rockchip who make the processors for a lot of Chinese devices Rockchip are Chinese themselves. Its to try and pull in a lot of companies. Basically to show off the chips.
Bet it's the new Archos phone.
Look at the buttons on the side in the third picture. A lot of this looks to me like a photoshopped 2nd gen iPod touch, especially the bezel.
I bet money that it is a Dell Mini MID.
makes sense if they have an idea that apple is working a tablet form....and they already have a android phone in China....why not?
L
if its from sony......i think its gona be something rocking
Oh !!
It's certainly some kind of phone. Read the text on top of the first picture, it says "SD card & phone storage". On one hand, it looks very high-end, on the other, only 34mb built-in storage?
Hmmm, to me that (what looks to be) AC plugin looks like it comes from my old LG phone lol. Maybe LG has another touch screen up their sleeve ;)
My bet goes to a KIRF Apple Tablet. Before the real one even got a chance to make its way out of rumorville.
Also looks like this thing is a phone: "SD Card & Phone Storage" up on the top.
Could it be a new Android based PMP ??? I'm rooting for that, that device looks too good to be something without atleast 32GB of Memory ;)
Archos MID is my guess too on this one
i dont want a phone on my MID. i want something for $250 not $200 and $50/month
Then just buy it without a contract. If the unsubsidized price is too much, then don't buy it.
Regardless of what it is "iWant" One.
Why not post a video of it in action?
Be skeptical.
This is Eric Schmidt's Apple-Google love child. Since Eric left Apple no one wants to take care of that little thing so child protection services gave it to Sony to look after it. It sucks being a foster gadget but I think Sony can be a proper care giver with its chiclet-keyboard history with Apple.
SOB SOB :'(
Give me multi-touch and Win7, MacOS, or maybe even iPhone OS, on a device like this, and I'll take two for use as media and whole-home controllers.
Android? No thanks...
This looks suspiciously like an iPhone in design, not to mention that, based on the keyboard it's on, it's only about a half inch longer. Is there an official confirmation on who built this?
@me
Do you have a Vaio P and a Touch to measure with cuz I was wondering about dimensions.
I'm still hoping for Android on a device with ~5-7" screen (Archos?). With a small bezel like this, I think a larger screen size would work for me.
