I installed on my HTC Hero and immediatly moved it on one of the 5 main screens.

Man, those LEDs can amke you blind... LOL. Imagine pulling this thing out inside a movie theater. Anyway, if the whole thing is not a touch screen, then it's pointless (and way overpriced).

Why? Someone long ago created a free App in the Android Market, to replicate the tricorder, and it takes advantage of some of the G1 (or myTouch3G) features, such as the accelerometer.
Because the hardware looks like one too.
I personally dont get it but then again im not a big star trek fan. Im sure some people will buy it and be happy with it. Me on the other hand wouldnt mind getting another master replicas lightsaber or two for instead of this lol.
You are totally missing the point of novelty. This isn't an app for a phone, it's a plastic tricorder toy that's interactive for the first time ever. I totally would have eaten this up when I was 12.

Nothing will help you in a Dalek encounter. Unless you have a gun with bastic bullets, in which case aim for the eyestalk.
This looks like a mod of the playmates toy I had when I was a kid. If not, the mold probably came from the same source. Dead giveaways are the belt clip, battery cover, speaker grille (next to LEDs), hinges, and shape of bottom flap's corners.
That's all it is. He has construction videos on his youtube page which show it in the various "stages" as he calls them. It's literally, from the looks of it, a PMP crammed into the toy with some leads off the forward, reverse, volume +/-, and power buttons and a few ultra bright leds on a flasher circuit.
I find myself wondering how long until he gets a C&D and who he'll get one from, Playmates Toys or Paramount.
If he's modifiying the actual toy, then the Cease and Desist can not come from Playmates. It is perfectly legal to buy something, modify it and then sell it for a mark up. Playmates already has their money from the original purchase and he did do some custom work that he can charge for.
Paramount on the other hand, I think, can depending on the legal status of the LCARS art/interface. Nearly all LCARS things across the internet are free. The couple that do charge something are all small time. His asking price, which for a "functional" replica/prop is not outrageous, makes him bigger than small.
How hard is it to make a tricorder remote for the TV, DVR, house automation, etc?
OMG!!! too pricy though. I nearly nerdgasmed in my pants tho. Makes me remember something from like 10-15 years ago. It was a REAL tricorder. At least it could do VERY basic things. I wonder when we shall get real tricorders that can do more than light tests and such. I would love to be able to scan for gamma radiation. :)

ok, $350 .00 what does a basic ipod go for? $150? Now, have you've been to roddenberry.com...tricorder built with only twinkly light and sound...$999.99! I think the $350.00 is a great price its a media player,a star trek prop you can actually use in public(the lights have a sut of switch). it has a built in speaker,comes with headphone,software on cd,free lcars downloads to change the view screen, can be made to your imaginitive ideas( have a client who wants his own color scheme and custome logos) usb charging mac/pc compatible...and heck most original idea in a while to bring some life back to next gen fans wanting more than just to watch the fan made films. I running on, seriously its a cool gadget and it is definatley a eye chatcher. I cant go to my local comic shop with out a crowd of people asking questions and and passing it around and testing it out. Thank You for you time.
ipods aren't hand made
You hollowed out a Playmates Tricorder, and stuffed an LCD screen in it, and charge $350 for it. On it's own, it's a nice prop replica. But to box it up, and charge that much for it? No. And apparantly you don't have a license from Paramount for it. If you were selling a prop replica to individuals, that would be ok. But to make a box for it, and expect to sell it at the Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas? Unless you have a deal with them or a license, you aren't going to do that. Paramount will jump on you in a second. Not to mention all the trademarked images you use on the Tricorder.
And I hope you have permission to use Majel Barrett's voice on your website. If you don't, you will be in some serious trouble.

Otherwise pretty damn cool, even if it is a bit spendy. As someone else said drop that to $200. Give it a touch screen and sold.
