Casio's Exilim EX-Z450, EX-Z280 and EX-Z90 compacts invoke more Zzzs
The EX-Z450 above is Casio's new Exilim Zoom flagship model, but you'll be forgiven for confusing it for its predecessor the Z400. Their spec sheets are almost identical: both come with 4x optical zoom, 12 megapixel sensor, 720p / 24 fps video, and Exilim Engine 4.0 -- hell, even the max ISO setting is identical at 3200, and you can upgrade that 'for free' since nobody expects your highest settings to be usable anyway. What's new? An autofocus for the ages, apparently, as the sole difference is a new Intelligent AF feature that automatically adjusts focus and exposure for photographic subjects, human or otherwise. The Z90 shrinks those innards into a more portable package, but drops to 3x zoom in the process. The two cameras are expected in early October for $199 and $149, respectively. They'll be joined by the unpriced Z280 shooter that misses out on the auto-detect magic, but gains a wide-angle 26mm lens. Full frontal shots of each camera after the break.

Appearing on a shopping channel near you soon.
Or any tourist .
Looking forward to it hitting the market.
2nd chance checking
The first picture is a joke, right?
I had one of those exilim. They're the worst kind...don't get it folks. It lacks any kind of stabilization which unless you have a steady hand or a tripod your pictures will not be any good. Spend a little more money with a good image stabilizer. I got a panasonic zs-3 a while back and that is a very good camera.
but it is unfair to compare a camera with a Mega OIS and one without any image stabilizer (i.e. value camera).
How much coffee do you drink? I have an older Exilm that I found and had been beaten up pretty badly- and never had an issue with stabilization. Very sharp, clear photos. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
Need one for my birthday
I've had two Exilims... loved both of them. Want a new one. One of the easiest and best cameras I've ever used.
I really want Casio to introduce a rugged cam like the Panasonic FT1.
Had a Exilim as well by the way, loved it, but also destroyed is (thats why is want a rugged version)
If that picture is showing the face detection, maybe another one should have been chosen lol
Meh, without some fancy feature like the high speed recording, Casio digicams are not that great. Too much noise reduction, even on outdoor pictures on low ISO, resulting in lack fine details.
I have a EX-Z57 and the thing is rugged as hell. It has outlasted 2 Canons, which isn't saying much since I've had problems with every single Canon product I've owned going all the way back to the A1 SLR. My Casio has been abused left and right and it still goes and the battery lasts forever between charges, even at 3 years old. My only complaint is that it doesn't do very well in low light situations or even in good light situations where you don't want the flash going off, and it could use some sort of image stabilization.
