Canon outs new PowerShots: G11, S90, SX20 IS, SX120 IS, SD980 IS and SD940 IS
Looks like that PowerShot G11 we spotted this morning was indeed the real deal, and it's being followed by five other compatriots announced by Canon this fine morning. Starting with the big boy, you're looking at a 10 megapixel sensor, 2.8-inch vari-angle LCD, 5x optical zoom, RAW support, a hotshoe and an MSRP of $499.99 when it lands in October. Moving on, we've got the $429.99 PowerShot S90, an all-business point-and-shoot model with a 3-inch LCD, 10 megapixel sensor, DIGIC 4 processing engine, RAW support and a 3.8x optical zoomer. Moving right along, there's the SX20 IS megazoom ($399.99), which packs a 12.1 megapixel sensor, 720p (30fps) video mode, an HDMI output, 20x zoomer and a 2.5-inch vari-angle display. The SX120 IS is a simpler beast (albeit bulkier), sporting a 10 megapixel sensor, 3-inch LCD, 10x optical zoom and AA battery support for $249.99, while the $329.99 SD980 IS Digital ELPH snags a 12.1 megapixel sensor, 3-inch touchscreen, 720p movie mode, 5x optical zoom lens and four different colors (silver, blue, gold and purple). Finally, the $299.99 SD940 IS offers up most of the SD980's amenities save for the LCD and zoom, which is replaced by a non-touch 2.7-inch version and a 4x lens. The full specifications are there in the read link.

I might be interested in this. But $499 somehow translates to a UK price of £569!
Even though that's a VAT (ie. sales tax) inclusive price, I reckon that $499 = £302 at today's prices. Even with VAT that's only £347.
That's actually worse than Adobe's $=£ pricing policy.
These premium point-and-shoots still have damn small sensors...
No GPS?
No BluRay?
Looks like a nice line-up overall. I would be happy with pretty much any one of those cameras. I like the G11 alot. More mega-pixels shmega-pixels. Put in all the mega pixels you want. Without a quality lens on the camera, you wouldn't notice too much difference anyways. Unless you blow up your pictures to poster size.
Where are the GPS capabilities? I really wanted them to line up with the Nikon P6000 and add GPS but make it better. With iPhoto and Picasa both supporting geotagging capabilities, the time is right for geotagging to become standard on cameras, adding a 'where' dimension.
I have a G7 and I pre-ordered this thing for the swivel screen alone. I'll have to get a different UW housing but I can live with that. I know that the 10megapixels in the G7 makes fantastic images, the new and improved sensor on the G11 is going to be outrageous. I almost bit when the G series went to a wide angle a few years ago, now it's a must buy. Thanks Canon. I have a Vixia HF100 for HD movies, the G12 will be a pass. Probably the G13 and 14 too. That 15 though that might just get me.
Canon S90 and G11 are newly released. i found an interesting comparison of both. check out http://www.doanalyze.com/comparison-difference-between-canon-powershot-s90-vs-canon-powershot-g11/
