MSI X-Slim X610 leaked, reviewed by Russians
If the gang at 3D News are to be believed (and why not?), this familiar looking notebook isn't MSI's X-Slim X600 at all, but the not-yet-announced X-Slim X610. And if a leaked ultraportable isn't enough excitement for you, wait'll we tell you that they actually got their hands on one of these beauts and gave it the full-on review treatment. As you'd expect from a machine that shares chassis, specs, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics, a 250GB hard drive, 4GB RAM, and all but one digit of its name with the original, there is not too much to report. The major difference is that the X610 foregoes Intel's 1.4GHz SU3500 CPU in place of an AMD Athlon MV-40 (1.6GHz), which results in some slower benchmarks, but not enough that you'd readily notice in everyday use. And then there is battery life -- the new guy clocks in at slightly less than two hours, or around 20 percent less than the X600. Same machine, same specs, poorer performance -- not really a step in the right direction, MSI. Perhaps you can at least give consumers a break on the price?

In Soviet Russia, the laptop reviews YOU.
-1 for making the sentence grammatically correct. Are you new to the internets or something? :P
In Soviet Russia, WE rule the grammar. Collectively.
rule the grammar, WE In Soviet Russia Collectively..
In Soviet Russia, Internet Grammar is correcter than YOU.
*sigh*
In Soviet Russia, comment grammar correct you.
You're ALL a bunch of dolts
In Soviet Russia, the dolt is YOU!
AMD Processors almost always mean a cheaper price for the machine. That's about the only good thing about their mobile CPUs.
All these nice new under performing ultra portables and useless netbooks are coming out, without any real $$$savings to the consumer. Just companies selling Less crap for same monies..
Hey OBAMA! why not get some of your croonies to research a Cash for computers C4C... any computer that is more than 3 years old gets a trade in rebate so that people can buy a fresh one for $1,000 so they can check their emails faster and send private information to that guy who says my uncle died and he left his castle in mount rushmore but I have to pay the small handsomely sum of $10,000 quid to release it and the millions or senanos to my personal back account via eastern union money transfer...
more work! because we all know that most people use computers and drive cars that are MADE IN THE USA!
YES WE CANIBUS!
"$10,000 quid"? conflict of currencies there. a quid is a British Pound Sterling. a dollar is American currency.
Why does it have to be more than 3 years old? That makes no sense.
And I think $1000 is a little excessive for the average user. 600 would be about right.
"only thing is that in reality AMD's cpus create more heat and use more power under load. its fact."
That may be so. But what AMD lacks in low heat and power, it more than make up for in their use of far more capable integrated graphics. That is most important in terms of notebooks, where you can't upgrade the graphics card.
only thing is that in reality AMD's cpus create more heat and use more power under load. its fact.
I like my CPU's like I like my women and cars... running HOT!
"Same machine, same specs, poorer performance -- not really a step in the right direction, MSI." Have you forgotten that they are using an AMD CPU? Which means that it should be quite a bit cheaper than the intel solution. Those Core Solo are expensive...
It's called the ION platform ^_^
At least it's not evil.
Question for the reader:
What is a good net book with enough power to run visual studios? I'm not kidding. Anyways, I'm not going to do massive compiles. Just need something I can take to a cafe and hack some code while I read through a coding book. I will be doing mainly C++ and IronPython mostly.
Need it to be light, thin, and have good battery power. Small enough to fit on those small cafe tables with some spare room for a writing pad and a cappucino.
What are other manufacturers doing when my Acer Timeline 13" has the same specs (SU3500, 4gb, mechanical HD, etc) and gets 8-9 hours on the battery, and the Intel based X-Slim gets 3 hours?
The specs on these slim laptops are getting weaker and weaker all the time. Personally I would never sacrifice functionality for looks.
Why aren't your banned?
All of these NEW ultraportables have yet to beat the old but well spec'd Samsung X360 which comes with around 9 hours of battery life, its also lighter than the Macbook Air.
# Samsung X360 Core 2 Duo SU9300 1.2 GHz - 13.3" TFT
# 2 GB DDR3 SDRAM - 1066 MHz
# 64GB or 128GB SSD, or a 5400RPM 120GB HDD
# X4500 integrated graphics card
# a 7-in-1 card reader
# three USB ports, PCI ExpressCard/34, HDMI, VGA, LAN and a docking port
# WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR connectivity

What´s the use if you can´t even watch a 2 hour movie when you´re on a train?
