Both flavors of Garmin-Asus nuvifone coming to AT&T?
After years of wrong turns, it looks like Garmin-Asus's nuvifone has finally found its way to a US provider, with two separate sources claiming the nav-enabled handset will be coming to AT&T, and soon. This falls in line with earlier indications that it would be making a slight left turn onto American streets in Q4, and will mark the end of a tortuous journey to retail. Both the G60 with its homemade OS and the Windows Mobile M20 are said to be inbound, meaning you'll still have a choice to make even if you choose one of these. No confirmation from AT&T just yet, naturally, but we'll keep you posted.

So is this a full GPS with a phone function or a phone with crappy GPS?
Yes.
It's Garmin, so it's a phone with a full GPS.
So, subscription model on the GPS?
im guessing.. a really good GPS system with a crappy phone.. based on the pics.. but who knows. lets see the actual product. .
That was a genious piece of writing.
Sure, Garmin may sign a deal with AT&T. However, what are the other options? Nobody. T-Mobile's not picking up this phone. They tend to shy away from 1) GPS-enabled phones in general 2) High price-tier phones. The phone has a GSM antenna, so that only leaves AT&T.
So, either Garmin goes through AT&T or nobody. Trying to sell this phone unlocked is not out of the realm of possibility either. Total flop either way.
I'm really excited to see this FINALLY make it to retail! Is it enough to make me want to ditch my iPhone for? Probably not, but still I think that it'll be a great little gadget. One that I may get to just have as a second device! Does anyone know if it's capacitive or resisitive?
Why doesn’t Garmin just write a decent iPhone app? Tom Tom sucks.
Here is the TomTom iPhone app. Not much competition here.

I have a strange feeling that ATT will require a data plan for this phone. And not the cheap $15 MediaNet plan. I hope I'm wrong.
The big question: Will AT&T see fit to charge $9.95 a month (above and beyond the unlimited data plan) to use the Garmin Navigation? That's what they charge to use their fairly crappy AT&T Navigator powered by TeleNav. Since it is a quality Nav, maybe AT&T will try to get $24.95 or even $39.95 per month to access the navigation feature in this phone. Garmin Nuviphone on AT&T = FAIL.
AT&T charges for the Navigator because the map data are on their system and are downloaded evrytime you navigate. Nüvifone has its own database, so the nav functions will work without any connection to the AT&T network.
At least that is the logical way to look at it.
