Sure, a regular wrist strap will probably stay attached to both your wrist and your camera most of the time, but why take chances when you can have something like this? Always on the cutting edge of inexpensive, occasionally useful contraptions, Brando is now offering this so-called Ultimate 3-Point Hand Strap, which attaches to your camera's tripod socket, its wrist strap attach point and, of course, your wrist -- all in the name of comfort and stability. Will it hold up to lugging your hefty DSLR around all day? Will your wrist hold up? It only costs $16 to find out.

Looks more like the ultimate fapping strap.
Definitely doesn't belong on a dslr... most certainly not a double digit canon... I hand hold my 1dmkiii+70-200 f2.8IS (about 7~8lb) without the need of some ridiculous strap like this.
What is this thing supposed to do? I can easily freehand the 1D MkII and 10D I use, and I have neck straps that work much better for carrying the camera....
I just use the neckstrap that came with my 5D Mark II. When I don't want it around my neck, I wrap it twice around my wrist. This seems like major overkill.
"Anthony Sullivan here for the Fap Strap"
Similar straps has been available on eBay for years, with the same attaching method
And yet I hadn't hear of them til now. Might have to try this out with my film SLR.
I made one of these 12 years ago...
CRAP!
Cool idea.
I've used this (or a similar strap) for 3 - 4 years already, and I think it's fantastic. If I'm not wrong, it comes with a clip to tighten it on your wrist. I felt that 20D/40D + 17-55f2.8IS feels good enough. I can even rest a 70-200 f2.8 and let it hang off my wrist.
Bought my original one for almost US$35.. Time for me to pick up a couple of new straps.
That's not a terrible idea actually.
nice, a glove for summer :)
Not sure, but it looks like this makes it difficult (if not impossible) to shoot portrait orientation using the second shutter button.
Ya I was just thinking that this would make it almost impossible to use the shutter button on my grip lol
doesn't look like it'll work with those that keep the tripod quick release mount on the slr...
Because Brawndo's got electrolytes.
nah, brawndo's their paper towel line
lol Thats the first thing I thought of when I saw that title too.
Brawndo's got what you need, it got electrolytes!
the tendonitis mutilator.
Brando --> Brawny? Mehhh......not sure about that one.
Nice! Nikon's own hand strap costs 70 bucks! finally an affordable and (looks) stable hand strap.
and it's worth every dollar.
The AH-4 is great quality, comfortable and easy to lock and release.
Unlike a neck strap, when it's attached to your hand it's not tethered 3 feet away from your neck or bouncing around on your chest. You can move your hand in any direction and the camera goes with it and stays with it. You don't even have to hold it when you are relaxed, you can open your fingers and the grip holds it secure around your hand.
This Brando version seems to be unnecessarily complex, which I'm guessing is to hide the poor construction of the hand grip element.
Do your hands stay locked around the camera? Because if they do, it seems very impractical. I can imagine my hand getting all sweaty in it and then when i want to pick something up, i can only use my left hand. As lame as it is i think even the spider holster is more practical. But i'm still deciding whether its worth the embarassment of being caught dead in it
Seems highly unnecessary to me. I simply wrap the existing neck strap around my hand when shooting and that achieves the same thing without costing anything, and probably with less hassle as well. In other words, I'll pass on this one but it was at least worth a look.
Hm, nothing new at all, though I like the execution. Looks more secure. I'm in the market for one, so... hm, I might get this one. The neck strap is awful around the neck, I'm always wrapping it around my wrist, but the problem is that it can loosen itself, and that it easily blocks the view through the viewfinder, or of the display, or something else that I need. Often I look through the viewfinder to find its black, and then I have to remove the strap from the viewfinder. I hate it. I'd rather wish every DSLR would have one of these instead.
I have the smaller version, from Brando, and it works very well for carrying and shooting street-level shots (zoom, aim and shoot without looking, after a while I'm very accurate with it). It's not comfortable for a more classic dual-hand landscape grip since the wrist can't twist up. In large cities, it secures your camera so no petty thief can grab it and run off.
I like that. Something additional for holding the camera steady.
Hakuba has been making this for years: http://www.hakubausa.com/csite/c_products3.asp?cc=50&cs=50
As heard on tips on the top floor.
this is perfect for paparazzi because like this the celebrity has to rip out your whole arm before he can throw away your camera...or as alternative, it's also fancy for people with expensive cameras since the burglars cant just take it and run away (as long as he's not carrying a machete with him) !!
my carpal, the pain, oh the pain.....
A camera accessory that isn't a lens, tripod, flash or housing and isn't completely useless?
will it fit on a dslr with mounted battery grip?
No Quick release mechanism?
I've used just the hand strap for a long time, I don't like the idea of the wrist part, but I suppose it would make it more stable. The fact that it doesn't look like you can easily take the tripod mount off and attach it to a strap lug on a vertical grip really hurts the usefulness too.
the wrist part is unnecessary and will be more cumbersome (and hotter) than a regular hand grip.
You can see why they did it though. There's nothing to stop the camera from sliding out of your hand with just the front construction. They didn't wrap it around the thumb, just the knuckles.
Two questions... Are these type of straps made to help with the shaking of cameras when using a heavier lens?
and when you said "fapping" are you talking about what I think your talking about???? Hahaha..
your hands or a tripod are the only things that can control camera shake. These are to provide an alternative to having it slung around your neck and keep it secure in your hands.
I use a similar strap on my D300. I love it, takes a while getting used to it, but I hate having my camera dangling around my neck. It offers some piece of mind as I can carry it and not worry about someone running up and yanking it out of my hands like a purse snatcher.
Man, thank god! HOW did people hold cameras before this?!! It's like back when all tools were not coated in super grippy rubber and no one could hold a god damn thing without it flying out of their hand every 3 seconds!! How did we manage to build ANYTHING?! Now we can finally take pictures without having to set our cameras on a table!
:)
I love the strap Canon makes. This seems like a cool idea if you don't make much use of the vertical grip.
It's always instructive to watch the comments from know-it-all "what a stupid idea/it's not practical" idiots. This type of thing has been available for years precisely because there are certain niches where they ARE useful.
