I just hope Holiday prices will be even better. Not just consoles but games too.
If they included wifi AND dropped the price by another 50, only then would be a sensible competitor against the slim PS3.

I kid, I kid. But seriously, the PS3 slim is a better value at $299. Now, if it only had better games...

@ JKL - With that kind of system...what possible purpose is there to have a 360 other than 2 or 3 games that will eventually come out for PC anyway? Seriously. As a PC owner, you know Games for Windows, is XBL, the networks cross, and you can carry your gamerscore over. You have almost no worry of hardware issues. So...seriously, why have an inferior Xbox that puts out everything on PC anyway? I'll agree with you on the hardware end, newer high-end PC's destroy the 'last-gen' consoles...but, one thing is that Sony 1st party games never come out on PC. So, for the money, the better bet (for those of us with gaming rigs) is a PC and a PS3...right?
Why are people making such a big about this?
1.) IIRC the PS3 doesn't include an HDMI cable either. In fact, when I bought my (launch) PS3 I had to buy component cables for it . So the lack of an HDMI cable is not a big issue. Microsoft is just cutting out the extra cost in order to remain competitive with the PS3 slim. If you need the dongle, but the HDMI cable that microsoft sells with the dongle.
2.) Anyone who has played on Xbox Live and PSN like myself (I own both consoles) knows that Xbox Live is a far superior product and worth the $50 a year.
3.) Any serious gamer knows that a hard wire is more reliable than wifi anyday, so the lack of wifi on the 360 is not a problem for me (I have a cable running from my modem to the 360).
I enjoy both the PS3 and 360, so why don't we all just enjoy that prices are going down, and if you want get both systems?
Has anyone actually confirmed this price at their local store? Walmart.com still has it at 399. I'm in the market for a 360 and if the Elite is 299 It's worth it for me.

It is clear that this was the ad of a 360 Premium, the background box would have been gray otherwise. 360 was recolored to black and green to match the Elite and some text was also edited. This is all very easy to do.
There is one thing you are missing with the Xbox vs. PS3 comparison, and that is HD gaming. If you pick up a random Xbox 360 game in your local store, then pick up the same game in the PS3 variety, you will most likely (80%) see that the Xbox game supports 1080p and the PS3 game only supports 720p, although the release of newer games and increased popularity of the PS3 may change this statistic.
I'm still not using the full potential of my Sony XBR9.
So what! does it have a built-in blu-ray player? no, so the new PS3 slim is a hell of a better deal than the 360, always has been, always will be.
Okay, I honestly think that Microsoft should do this. Bundle an Xbox 360 Elite with it's normal 120GB HDD, as we all a WIFI Adapter (they really need to go to black now!) and a play and charge kit....maybe a game included, like an upcoming game ...Modern Warfare 2, wait, that would just make the price go up...scratch that! lol
That would make me get the 360 over the PS3 Slim.
I really would like to get a PS3 Slim just for the blu ray, but there is no point really when I only have a 19" Monitor in my room. My 32" Sony Bubble tv definitely won't support it!

Um...no, both the PS3 and 360 have upscalers. On the PS3's boxes, they tell you what the native resolution is. The 360 simply states everything is in 1080p (Which it is not), because it upscales. Most games on the consoles, this generation, are native 720p, however, the PS3 has the most native 1080p games. The smaller PSN Download titles are all 1080p, GT5 and Wipeout HD, are native 1080p as well.
