Video: Another look at PS3 Slim and its removable HDD

Sure, you've seen the pictures already, but just in time for the weekend, we thought we'd put together this video showing off the PlayStation 3 Slim, both on its lonesome and as it compares to the classic PS3 and its Xbox 360 competitor. There's also a small segment that confirms what many readers have asked about: yes, the 2.5-inch Serial ATA hard drive is indeed removable and is done so with Sony's blessing (i.e. no worries, it won't void your warranty). The HDD enclosure is located behind a front panel just under the disk drive, which is a snap to pull out once you undo the blue screw from the bottom of the console. Confused? Check out the video after the break, you'll see what we mean.

Have you tried actually changing the HD? Have they learned to use screws that can actually be removed without stripping?
If it makes you feel better.. you would've gotten ranked down whether or not you were first.
Me thinks Ms better drop the elite to $250 or they are going to have problems. No bluray and wifi will be a huge deal breaker for many. They should be putting in a 500gb HD and wifi and giving you a free year of live for $300. Just saying(I am a owner of all 3 systems).
There is a reason why they didn't show the blue screw being taken out. that thing is a bitch to come out. it's tightend in there so tight and the screw is made of butter so it strips easily. the only way i got it out of the phat ps3 is with endnipper pliers. it doesn't look like u can use those pliers on the slim so this must be a hell of a task.
Oh Microsoft. While I love my 360's media capabilities. Why oh why do you have to be such a douche and not: support third party hard drives? (Like Sony.) Not support NTFS? (Its your own damn files system for god sake!) and most of all not allow owners of your hardware to upload content onto THIER hard drive. (Like Sony does.) You don't own the hardware. So other then your insane paranoia about people downloading ROMs en-mass and using the hard drive to play ill gotten games...there is no reason.
MS stop being the world's second biggest douche. Please? Otherwise I'm seriously eyeballing a PS3 this fall. All because MS is an asshat.
So ugly :/. Seriously the PS3 Phat looks far sexier, has more features and cheaper. Why would anyone get the slim?
I agree the design makes it look very cheap. I defiantly think sony should of kept the same finish on the PS3 slim.

I don't know if it's been asked but haven't all ps2's and ps3's had a multicolor logo above the drive slot? It just seemed a little off that this one was silver.

They are trying to phase the color PS logo out, just like Nintendo has gotten rid of using red.

Well, you can pay competitive market prices for a 500 GB hard drive for the PS3, or you can pay a massively inflated price for the 360's paltry 120 add-on. I think removing one single screw is well worth the savings.

Looks like they didn't change the screws on the drive caddy :P. Still a pain in the ass to upgrade without ruining the screws then....

If ya want PS2 games just but a Slim PS2 under but it under the Slim PS3.... same price and size as the original PS3 XP

The Xbox360 design isn't that great, almost ugly
No Blu-ray
No third party hard drive capability
Rips you off and makes you pay for basic functions, like wireless,
no HDMI except for Elite

Excuse me, but ALL Xbox 360 consoles sold since last year have the HDMI port, it is not exclusive to the 360 Elite.
Secondly, wireless is not a basic function. Ethernet would be a basic function, wireless is a luxury.
Thirdly, half the people saying that the new slim is "ugly" prefer/own the original PS3. I totally agree that the original was much nicer looking, but even it had scraped the barrel for any chance of good looks with its "random shapes glued together" look. The 360, whilst not a beauty Queen, at least boasts a form not mutilated by "shape irregularities" that dispel its own presence amongst other electronic equipment.
Also if you read the lastest console news (which going by your hdmi port statement you clearly refuse to do) you would also have noticed Microsoft have ordered the manufacturing of Blu-ray drives for the 360, therefore your predictable fan-boy arguement against that case will soon be rendered useless and we can finally stop having to listen and correct people like yourself amongst online forums and community websites such as Engadget.

Anyway, nice to see a smaller version, looses any looks the PS3 had, but for space/cash saving it's well worth it, I'm sure a lot of people would agree. Might purchase this item and install a tasty 1TB hard drive. Should keep me going for a while at least!

The Phat ps3`s are selling now for 416$ in INDIA with all taxes and import duties. Before Discounts 516$. The slim will retail for 416$ so we`re still paying a fist full of cash for this thing.
I know poeple will say ftw and get the new one, you dont have to look at the console but my home theater and plasma have the piano finish and the phat ps3 looks like it belongs here. And i know a lot of people who`ll have that problem with the matt finish

I have a uncharted 160 gig model I bought in February. The new slim ps3 looks good but my fat ps3 can stand on its own and looks better IMO
