Xbox 360 Elite in white package in the wild, Pro SKU missing on back-of-box chart

Update: As several readers have pointed out, the back-of-box chart shows the Elite as having standard, presumably non-HD cables only, and there's no mention of bundled HDMI cables anywhere. Also of note is the wording for Xbox Live has changed from "Silver Membership" to "Free." Before you go thinking the premium Gold membership is going away, however, there's a superscript '4,' and if it's like the older box, it leads to a longer explanation on the Xbox Live's tiered plans -- not to mention there's an ad for buying into XBL Gold just under the chart.

I really hate the black 360.
I know right. The disc drive went out on mine so I'm looking to upgrade to one with a bigger hdd and HDMI, but I wish the Elite was white though
Oh wal-mart, I love how you don't give a shit about not crushing your boxes.
Loving Walmart, that's got to be worth a few dozen painful deaths, or hump nights with Hilary Clinton.
is the X360 backwards compatible?
For some games not all
http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm
There's the official list of all the original Xbox titles that are compatible with the 360.
Unlike the PS3, the XBOX 360 is compatible with most XBOX games.
It's backwards compatible with Halo 1 & 2, perfectly.
There is a longer list of allegedly compatible games, but many many of them work very poorly.
If you're counting on running original Xbox games on your 360, you're very likely to be disappointed in the results.
"There is a longer list of allegedly compatible games, but many many of them work very poorly."
With the exception of some graphical glitches in JSRF, all the XBox games I've played on the 360 play as well as, and in some cases better, than on an original XBox.
Maybe Microsoft is going to price it at $250-$280? Rumor was that during Gamescon they were going to announce a price drop, but opted on not doing it because of the PS3. Maybe they wanted to rethink the price drop?
So does this mean the Arcade and Pro will price drop too??? cause thatd be pretty beasty. Or maybe the Arcade or Pro will be taken out of the picture??
Uh, did you even look at the gallery? The Pro is being discontinued and the Arcade is carrying on as usual.
Microsoft should just include the network adapter in the box for the elite SKU and price it at $299. The fact that you get wifi, blu-ray, solid build quality, standard upgradable HDD, and free online gaming (slightly behind live) makes the PS3 Slim a great value. I would like to see an elite bundle with the network adapter and Forza 3 this holiday for $299.
How do you know what the build quality of the PS3 Slim is? Sony cut corners, it could be built like their batteries.

Their failure rate is acceptable, not to mention much better than the 360's.

Yeah, MS definitely needs to up the ante, which I'm hoping was their intention by waiting for Sony to announce the new PS3 price. A lower price plus something extra like the wireless add-on would be a good start.
I laugh at the fools who still use the "Theres not enough exclusives" excuse.. LMAO
The chart says xbox live is free with no mention of silver. Interesting.
see that "4" to the right of the letter E on the word LIVE? that's the disclaimer note. It's most likley on the bottom of the box saying free silver, not gold.
oh its silver....lol
Quick! Value shoppers and fellow PS3 fans!
hop over to walmart and get the NEWLY DISCOUNTED game of the year bundles before they're gone!
I won a PRO (white 60gb) at school in may and never opened it, took it walmart yesterday returned it for store credit when to the entertainment section had the employee look through the entire inventory until he found one the LAST ones with Fable and Halo 3. Paid the same $299 for it :-)
now i'm chilling with a legit BC PS3 (60gb **500gb** launch) and a brand spanking new GOY Elite :-)
This is now the accepted practice for new buyers, get the goy elites while they last!
I have a 360 and unless MS comes out with something smaller, quiter and more reliable no reason to upgrade.
On the other hand my Slim will be here by the end of the month.
I don't really think MS is pushing this as an "upgrade"... Sure, it has the 120GB HD, but otherwise it's nothing other than a black console. Now that they've taken out the included HDMI cables the value of the Elite just dropped significantly. The PS3 Slim really is a better value.
some might say this makes the 360 and PS3 dead even for potential sales...I dont think so...they Gimped the Elite....no reason at all....
Such a bunch of whiners. First off, wired is always better than WiFi, and how many people here actually need it vs. it being a nice feature to have? I had it and ended up selling it to my brother because I got more lag with. Second, you have to get an HDMI cable, you can get a component for way less and it gives you pretty much the same quality picture. 1080p is 1080p unless someones been lying to us, and is
$30 more really worth the visual quality?
its not about buying a cable for visual quality (and hdmi does display better than component, except you can pick up a good HDMI cable for cheaper than microsofts component anyways) its about being in a generation where your main sale point is HD gaming vs previous generations and you dont include support for HD in the box.
@mynk
explain to me how hdmi gives a better picture? is it faster? does it have something magic? no. it outputs the same resolution. but it has HDCP so you can't rerecord your shit or any of that.
hdmi is only more convenient because one wire: audio/video
but it's more fragile and it can't be used if you want to record game footage or anything of the like
"its about being in a generation where your main sale point is HD gaming vs previous generations and you dont include support for HD in the box."
You mean like that other HD console has been doing since it launched?
can't believe its been almost 2 years since i bought my 360, and about a year since i got rrod, but to their credit the customer service was decent enough. when i gought it the rrp was £280, managed to get it for £200 a few weeks before the official price cut. bit annoying that now you can get a 120gb hdd included for what i paid for 20gb, but ive had 2 years out of it already so im not that annoyed, had hdmi when it came back from repair anyway so its just the hdd that i missed out on, now if only ms started selling the 60 or 120 hdd's at a reasonable price i'd get one
The lack of hdmi doesn't bother me too much except MS made a huge deal out of it when they released the Elite. No optical is also complete crap.
Optical out is part of the cable on the Component cables. When the Elite was bundled with HDMI, it came with separate cable that plugged in where your normal video cables would. That cable only contained an optical port. So you can still use optical if you are using a non HDMI cable.
Xbox is a rip off, Paying to play online, paying extra for the wifi adapter, and then the RRoD , at the same pricepoint almost as the Ps3 and Ps3 slim. I will stick with the ps3. Free online game play, I have had mine for 2 years at about what, $10.00 a month for xblive? I've saved over $240.00 already
Live is way superior than your free network. LOL
Excuse me but 50 dollars a year for UNLIMITED Gaming is way worth it more than your idiot who pays 60 dollars on their cellphone bills A Month.
I could also save money if I don't buy those 30 dollar Blu-RAYmovies that are worth shit. I think consumers are pretty much satisfied with DVD Quality. Digital Distribution is going to kill blu-ray just like how itunes is slowly killing CD distro.
MS needs to discontinue the Arcade and sell the Pro at that price tag.
I can see that happening around next summer/christmas.
Good luck to whoever gets the box on the right. Somebody played basketball with it in the back room apparently.
So, they included ethernet cable, but not HDMI? Lame, really LAME! Jeez MS, at least put in a component cable out, just like the Pro. So much for "elite." MS should just rename it into Arcade "Black Edition." Nothing "elite" about it if it's not even HD out-of-the-box. At least the PS3/slim has built-in wifi.
Are the fines that MS have to pay to the EU and the lawsuit against MS Word really put a lot of strain to Microsoft's pocket that they're too cheap to bundle in an HDMI cable?
For those wanting a Jasper-chipset Elite, give it a few weeks after the price drop to be safe. More than likely when the $299 price is officially announced, you will find all kinds of people jumping onboard the XBOX bandwagon and buying up the Elite systems, which are probably at first going to be older stock with the Falcon chipset. The Jasper ones are slowly trickling out to the market now, but should be more plentiful within another month to two months.
Remember just because the packaging is brand new, doesn't mean a Jasper-Elite is inside. You still will want to check for yourself via the breakaway box top to be safe. The $299 price point is what is going to appeal to people, most of them probably have no idea about Jasper this, or Falcon that.
Personally I think MS should have dropped the Arcade sku and kept the Pro but lowered the Pro down to $229 or maybe even the $199 price point where the Arcade is currently at. Having the Pro and the Elite made more sense to me. Had they done that, it would have put a big swing at Sony's PS3.
The PS3 is great as a Blu-ray player, but XBOX is defiantly where it is at when it comes to games and online play. $50 for a year of XBOX Live is the average price, but generally you can find it on sale for $40 for a 12+1 card, and sometimes on eBay you can find them for as low as $28 shipped for a year. It is well worth it, even at the $50 price. And Microsoft has proven themselves that XBOX Live is quite stable (with a few problems here and there), Sony is still too new to the online arena. Generally it is MS playing catch-up (Zune, XBOX, etc) but in the online arena, they have proven themselves while Sony hasn't.
But yes the XBOX is still plagued with problems, which is what will turn people off when it comes to a new system launch as there will be a percentage of people who won't buy a launch system again because of the nightmare they already went through their 360. MS has to be thinking of that and have all of the bugs fixed for their new system when it launches in a few years.
Natal is going to be basically an XBOX 360, rumored to be smaller in size and will have a new chipset, but at the core of it, will be the 360. They will treat it like a new system launch has it will have been 5 years in November 2010 when XBOX 360 was originally released. It will be a mid-way point refresher for the 360, much like how a car company freshens up a car before doing a complete model change a few years later down the road.
so no split AV cables that can be used for both standard and HD?
Easy prediction for aspiring fortune tellers. There will be at least 50 to 60 percent of these model failing. That will be a fact. Count on it.
Ha so Sellout Woot is selling the 60GB for $229
http://sellout.woot.com/
Supposedly, there are still a whole lot of Elite GOY - Halo 3 and Fable 2 - bundles out there to be sold. Those are really the value now at $299
Anyone else think it's bullshit they not giving component wires for HD display? WTF? like seriously MS? after allt his years you gonna stoop to sony's level with A WEAKER CONSOLE? not to mention 88bucks (where i live) a year for onlien play when sONY's is FREE ._. nice job M$ cause we all know it PAYS to shoot urself in the foot >_>
I saw someone say that most 1080p 360 games are upscaled, however most games that run 1080p or even 720p on 360 are often running in 540p on PS3 just to get the same frame rate...
