Apple enlists David Puddy to take on the Laptop Hunters
Apple's created a whole new chapter in its "Get a Mac" ad campaign based on targeting Microsoft's successful Laptop Hunters series, and while at this point it's just a lot of muddled back-and-forth, the gang in Cupertino managed to spice things up a little by bringing in an all-too-recognizable face and voice: Patrick "David Puddy" Warburton. Mr. Brock Samson / Joe Swanson / The Tick comes on as the top-of-the-line PC who some say has a "much too fast" processor but prone to viruses and causing headaches -- you knew were the narrative was going. Video after the break, and you can go ahead and start work on your parody video, "You got a question about PCs, you ask the eight ball."

PC: Hey check this out.
Big PC: I'm a powerful computer.
Girl: Oh yeah, well I'm dumb.
Mac: Perfect! You should get a Mac!
Yep. Time to retire the campaign. Law of diminishing returns.
What's next, Verne Troyer as a netbook?
@James
The problem with Linux is that it often does not work from the beginning. Common issues are X11 configuration, sound configuration, and graphics drivers. I know this because I've used Linux on a few different computers for many years. And if you dare decide use the straight up CLI, you don't want an idiot to use that since they'll probably sudo rm -rf / anways.
Gilbert Gottfried as a netbook!!! AWESOME!!!
@ Khav
I know of a household that consists of 3 girls, they are 33, 9 & 4.
They have a MacBook (Mac is the preferred OS with them) they have another laptop running Vista (and had XP before that) and a desktop running Ubuntu. They are all fluent with all three computers they have, and use all three for different things. Yes, the 9 year old and 4 year old included on knowing how to use all tree OSes. Again, the one they prefer most is the Mac - because of the OS.
Oh, and did I fail to mention that the 33 year old (the mom) is a member of Mensa?
So about that 'Dumb girl' thing... I see people complaining here about the virus & PC generalization, yet something as erroneous as saying only 'unintelligent' people use Macs is OK. I know some extremely intelligent people, and they know several OSes. They also love their Mac OS X.
@Skeezle:
My comment was not meant to promote any "dumb girl" stereotype or even insult Mac users. The reason the girl in the ad picks the Mac is because it "just works without thousands of viruses and headaches", which is a non-issue. As I'm sure you and your family know, a PC with Windows often "just works", and it's very easy to avoid the "thousands of viruses and headaches" that they claim PCs have. Despite the PC being more powerful (and apparently having a bigger screen), she goes for the Mac simply because she doesn't know any better.
@Skeezle's comments are false because they imply that there are women who would talk to him.
Oh and people who join Mensa are mostly stupid. I don't know if they still do that silly card thing but you can check it and odds on it'll say 148 because that's the minimum acceptable. Then of course they have to cough up membership fees.
Which goes to show that the people who run Mensa aren't stupid.
It's like middle school all over again. Not that I'm complaining...now where did I leave that popcorn...
Microsoft Guy: "When your ready to compromise, call me."
Bullshit, Apple, Bullshit.
"Megan" is going to be compromising half of her salary every month to afford your products, she will also be compromising her sense of freedom when it comes to her gadgets. Well, at least that bitch will be stylin'. Right?
I really want a new classic but it's only so I can put ALL of my music on it. I don't know why I care about that anyway. I usually just need ~8gb worth any other time. There's no way I can listen to all of that music at one time. I know someone will point to video being a big plus on the classic but that's why I think the Tablet and a larger Touch are in the works. Otherwise the classic will be getting a larger screen close to that of the Touch... who knows. I have ideas though ;)
@Dragngt
iPods arent the best choice for MP3 players. If you seriously liked music, even in the slightest bit, you would go with a Zune. There is just more features. Not to mention, a subscription for about what you are already spending on music (and you get 10 DRM free downloads a month...)
Id take my Zune30 (as ugly as it is) over a Classic any day.
Oh, and 8gb is nothing. I have about 36gb of music. I keep my most played on my 30 to listen to in the car. If I want something else, I just whip out my laptop.
@Joshua Really, the Zune? Ever taken a look at Archos devices? They blow both Apple and Microsoft right out of the water.
@ Morgan, Really, an Archos? They are the biggest pieces of junk and will continue to be until they get a player running Android. I cannot begin to describe how frustrating my experience was with the Archos 5, and with all the potential that device had, Archos couldn't have f'ed it up much worse.
Zunes on the other hand, are a complete user experience, software and hardware. If it's all about the music, then the Zune is better than the iPod based on the sound quality alone.
Oh, we're bragging about music collections now? 243gb.
@Ki7 but by buying a PC with Windows, she would be compromising her rights to know what exactly is going on inside her computer. Darwin is open-source, anything Microsoft is not.
I should say this: I don't have a Mac, but I don't use that piece of crap Windows either. Linux protects your intellectual rights in all ways, and runs much faster than Windows.
I am kinda interested in Microsoft Midori though, it looks like it could really take off, even though it's so different from windows. The technology is really a breakthrough, and looks very secure. If they can pull it off, I might just buy it.
The thing that Microsoft needs to do, I think, is have a large core part of their operating system open-source, as they're doing with Midori (Singularity).
That was truly great.
Don't forget Mr. Warburton in The Bee Movie, Emperor's New Groove, and The X's (the most under-appreciated cartoon in history).
Don't forget his lead role in Rules of Engagement, his awesome bit role in The Batman as Cash Tankenson, or Principle Barkin in Kim Possible.
Brock Sampson said Mac, b!tch!
Don't forget Johnny Johnson from News Radio.
Go ahead buy a mac and compromise your money.

No... he was right.
I'm sorry, but new PCs feel like used vehicles. I've unboxed over a hundred this summer and set them all up for our school district, and not once did I get a system that felt as durable and sturdy as our new Mac Pro lab. Those things are built like tanks, and they're damn near impossible to permanently vandalize while class is in session (whoever the kid is with over 200 HP power buttons, I hope he's happy :p).
If you're looking for something high powered, reliable, and well built, get a Mac Pro. Until you pop the cover on one of those babies and take a look around, don't even -think- about trying to change my opinion on this matter; they are the only computers that even seem to be built to be upgraded and repaired easily in our schools.
The computers your school gets are shitty. They're school computers after all.
After going to a Best Buy this past weekend, I saw the PC section was an absolute Zoo with barely enough room to move around.
The Apple section had a single employee hanging around doing nothing.
They need to switch up their advertising campaign. Just think of it this way:
Vista got a crap load of bad press, and yet PC's are still selling like crazy.
Windows 7 is getting a ton of good press. Just imagine what that will do to sales. No wonder Apple is concentrating on devices rather than computers.
Ugh. This is utterly disgusting. You've closed your minds to others ideals so completely that you don't even consider for an instant that another person might have a valid point. You guys make me sick.
I'm not a PC, and I'm not a Mac. I'm a human being. Go out and get some first-hand experience before conforming to the societal norm, maybe you'll discover you're one too.
no one is arguing that Macs aren't quality built products. they just cost way too much for what you get. HP doesn't have the best reputation for build quality either. to go with your used car analogy a Mac is like Toyota or Honda. you pay half again as much because of the brand name when you could get a perfectly good comparable Mazda or Volkswagen for considerably less.
want a good PC get an ASUS
macs are becoming just as vulnerable as pcs. they should really stop with the whole virus thing because sooner or later, macs will be more vulnerable than pcs. so i think that they should really stop these commercials with fake points.
@kojo87
True, except that volkswagons cost more than toyotas or hondas, and mazda's are comparable and usually better rated than toyotas or hondas. Now if you said kias instead of volkswagons and mazdas, then you'd be right on the money. To be honest though i'd probably compare apple to volkswagons as they are usually overpriced for what they are, and PC's to all the other brands, as you can get a PC for any price range and budget.
Totally agree with you about ASUS computers though, they are excellent.
@donuts... Yeah, of course if your school purchased Mac Pros, they you'd have at least half as many computers to unbox too.
This campaign started in 2006, at that time I thought it was great, it was spreading disinformation but it was funny, three years later we are watching the same, and it lacks the freshness of the first batch.
Why is apple saying that people not careful enough to use a PC in a safe enviroment shoul rely on them, no OS is perfect and fool proof
Apple is trying to hard.
iViagra?
Your spelling and grammar teacher didn't work hard enough.
No, he's saying they're trying to hard, hard what I don't know. I mean op here sounds pretty dirty minded but poor grammar I doubt it.
What did they try to hard? Why are they harding it?
Apple trying to hard....Apple? A girl's name? I can't imagine which part of a girl gets hard.
He got typo. It's "trying too hard". My fingers sometimes get lazy.
@shinrajp,
There are a few little parts on a girl that get hard... Pull your nose out of W.o.W. and find one. A girl, that is... not her hard parts... Let's take this one step at a time.
n.
shinrajp has never seen a girl wearing a t-shirt when its cold I'm assuming.
I'm gunna ruin all the fun and just give it to them. It was supposed to be to with two Os.
And Microsoft is not lol.......jrk.
I absolutely HATE these ads because they are a bunch of lies and wish Apple would move on, but I gotta admit these two new ones were quite funny.
That's what ads are SUPPOSED to do. Lie. (to get you to buy the product)
They're truthful... just misleading. Ever seen a commercial for a burger at a fast food joint? Ever seen an actual burger from a fast food joint? That is MUCH worse than this (although this is pretty damn bad...).
I'll have to disagree with you there, dohnuts. While they don't often look quite as pretty as in the ad, at least they are shown in the ad. The day when Burger King just has a dude standing around saying "Big Macs have cooties", then we'll talk.
I did get quite a chuckle when I saw this at my local BK though:
http://www.the-pimp.de/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/silly_whopper.jpg
@MarnBeast
They do show an actual product at the end of the commercial, take a second look, that's how they always do these commercials.
Microsoft takes real people and films their experiences in looking for a new computer.
Mac makes up some lame ad with actors. How does this convince people?
And I have a laptop running Vista for over two years now and I have had no problems with it what-so-ever. My favorite experience was when I installed some old software off of a CD. When I went to run it after it installed Vista told me that "this software is not compatible with Vista." Ah, bummer. I clicked OK......and Vista ran the program anyway.
I can't wait for Windows 7.
I run virus scans all the time. And most viruses are received because people do stupid things....how does owning a Mac help people not be stupid? If you looked at the prices, and you bought a Mac purely for the "I am cool" factor or because you are worried about viruses, you are an idiot to begin with so owning a Mac won't protect you from viruses and scams on the internet.
