Unless you're crazy enough to believe that Apple would announce its
tablet computer or
iPods with cameras without a press conference, you shouldn't expect anything too big when Apple's online store (down globally) comes back up later today. Odds-on favorite would be a page for Snow Leopard orders when Apple comes back up at the usual 830 time slot ET. That would give the elves in Cupertino plenty of time to ship discs by
August 28th. Then again, it could just be maintenance -- it's not Tuesday for crissake.
OMG, safari is snappier already!
Funny if they did announce a tablet, or something new.
Remember when the released the iPod Shuffle, after few rumors?
Yeah an iPod shuffle sure equals an Apple Tablet.. We better hope not.
Finally, a virus!!!
@Jakob, I was comparing the two.
And...6 minutes ago and it's now Tuesday where I am.

August 28th.
No MacsiPads to sanitize...i mean, satisfy, the douches.
I am hoping for cheaper prices here in Australia! We pay shit load more than you guys in the US!
I second that for New Zealand, we pay about $600US more for a 15" MBP with the 9600GT compared to the US with sales tax ($2749US).
You're paying more because of tax which is subsdequently used to fund internet filtering schemes, bailouts and the First Home Buyer's grant ensuring property prices remain at bubble levels.
Actually we pay more in Aus and NZ because of ecomonies of scale. Tax is a minor part of the difference.
@ Ben
Agreed... we do pay more but even though, in Australia, we are high up on the world's early adopters for technology, we still don't quite have the large amount of consumer intake of Mac based hardware that other countries does, hence the inflated price – however, it is not that inflated and has come down over the years.
@tumnasgt
Yes..... pity the NZ guys as my brother in law lives there and always gets the short end of the stick with mac stuff et al ie iPhone.
@ AliBaba,
I would suggest you check the facts as I don't think the govt. here says .... oooh.... let's put up the price of a MacBook Pro so that we can give someone a first home owners grant... different money... different outcome – it really has to do with the global price of the dollar and consumption of product and hence, how everyone gets their mac products.
.. though on reflection that rationale falls flat for digital products like software where Microsoft sees fit to charge an addtional %50+ for a copy of Windows purchased in Australia. Any wonder Australians are the greatest BitTorrent users per capita in the world.
I third that for New Zealand.
True. The update price for new computers that get the Windows 7 against OS X 10.6 upgrade has the Windows 7 upgrade at a more expensive premium is unbelievable....be interesting to see the Zune pricing in Australia v's the US pricing. Really on all OS's this upgrade should be at no charge,
Move
hey mate lol I ordered my disc for 15 aussie dollars, while the US guys pay just under $12 aussies. Not much of a difference there but you know what I mean when they "round up" the figures.
In terms of the mac computers, I dunno why they're more expensive here - it's basically the same thing! My iMac was shipped directly from China - and China to down under would be closer than to the US... :P so I don't think it's the shipping charge that makes the computers more expensive.
anyway... I hope they'll ship it out by 28 August. I haven't ordered many stuff off the apple store so I'm not sure if they'll "ship it" on the 28th or I will "receive it" on that day. :P But anyway in the mean time I've got time to see this windows 7 thing I just installed...
@AliBaba:
Tax/GST in Australia is 10%. I think tax in the US is way more than that even if that depends on where you live.
Probably just more 1st gen iPods
I would buy a 3rd generation iPod (with the touch wheel). That was the first PMP that made me go "ooooo" and actually want to carry around an MP3 player.
I wonder if they just do this to start hype...get everyone talking about Apple again (as if everyone isn't) to build up to the release on Friday. It's hard not to buy into this BS...I try, but I still have to look...maybe there's a 12 step program.
I would've thought it would've dropped on a Friday m'self, too. I mistakenly went to an Apple store the day Leopard was released to get a friend's ipod fixed, and got turned away, but at least I got a Leopard T-Shirt out of it.
It really is addictive isn't it? I'd consider it a healthy addiction though, there isn't enough news to keep you at your PC for 16 hours a day ALA WOW...
Just called the local apple reseller. They told me that it was, to them at least, not clear what was the deal. He did however told me that new E.O.L macbook(pro)'s were coming. So this could mean that the whole line is being updated as we speak. Fingers crossed!!
New End of Life MacBooks? Hey that's new!
Only Jobs could sell EOL as new.
End of who's life? I don't wanna go yet.
I want a big red fire truck.
No, you want a shiny white or aluminum iTruck with no doors and the steering wheel is fully touch-controlled. It will cost you 750,000 per iTruck and have a built-in iTablet in the dashboard acting as a sat nav:) Save your pennies!
I really hope this is Snow Leopard...and the MacBook Touch. Come on Apple give us something exciting!
and you can't open the hood either, because the engine is designed to run without maintenance for 8 hours.
The Indian catalog store is not down.. www.apple.com/in/store
I think that's because Apple is on the cowboy's side.
That's because no product updates to Indian store and Snow Leopard is not being shipped there anytime sooner.. from what I have known.
Ha ha, wrong Indians there cowboy!

I would bet Snow Leopard. But being an iPod owner I'm hope that it had something to do the iPod line. Oh well i'll probably have to wait.
The discussion forums (discussions.apple.com) are down as well.
Oh No!!! All is down.... the end is nigh!

I wish I could order SL, but in the up to date order page it can't find my serial number :( but the computer I bought first and returned within mins. (we realized it wasn't the AG screen) does show up. Maybe I'll just use that serial and screw someone over :)
Someone should shoot the webhost of Apple.com in the face with a bb-gun. That idiot still doesnt know how to update a webshop without taking everything down. Oddly enough iCrapple takes praise in it while if another company takes his website down.. as if that ever happens its an outcry.
Seriously.. it´s cool that maybe some patch is being sold undert he name of Snow Leopard but imagine MS actually asking their costumors money for every update they release.
Why just post new items? That's not 'news', this is.
@JZ so you didn't figure out yet that Apple uses the shop's downtime intentionally to attract more attention to it and to get people with no lives like you to think about how great/not great Apple is? Well now you know.
Come on, don't respond to an pinhead like this. Anyone (even jokingly) that suggests something as graphic as shooting someone in the face (bb gun or not) is probably not educated enough to understand your responses.
But as the other reply said, it's called 'creating a buzz'.
I only have 2 words for you: Windows 7
@Frankfurter you're right, I thought the same after my comment was published. In addition, the webhoster is a company, which makes shooting it.... oh well, I don't want to get too graphic myself.
Store is back up with Snow Leopard available for pre-order with delivery by 8/28
the store have problem couldnt select macbook......
Can somebody please explain to me why Apple seems to be the only online retailer that needs to take their ecommerce site down entirely in order to update its products? Is it all theatre, and they do it to drum up hype ... or an actual technical limitation of their ecommerce platform? It just seems like an incredibly unprofessional way to handle sales, and I wonder what happens to those customers that are half-way through a purchase when they flip the switch off.
It's absolutly all theatre and it works, as evidenced by this blog post.
