Creative Zii EGG orders being processed, will ship by the end of the month
We still don't know what to make of Creative's Zii EGG and "stem cell computing" but it looks like we'll be getting our first answers relatively soon -- pre-order customers are being charged and told units will ship by the end of the month. As an added bonus, Creative is apparently including a free HD-out cable in these early deliveries, but we don't know if these are being pre-loaded with Android or that Plazma OS. Anyone else join the early adopter club?

"The Zii can really be something different, revolutionary, but it just doesn't seem so, right now."
From your own link.
If I'm an e-thug, what does that make you? Did you even read your links?
If you can, read my first post. I hope this is something groundbreaking, but until Creative shows us something substantive, it's all marketing.
Even the articles you linked are skeptical of Creative's claims.
A couple other quotes for you.
"The theoretical compute performance of the Zii is, then, good for it's supposed power consumption, it's just not groundbreaking..."
"It wasn't disclosed how ZiiLabs have achieved this, so it's still not something up for serious consideration."
"There are still many details being left out, especially the architecture, the ZMS-05 is still a - very - obscure device."
Learn to read, then learn to think about what you read.
Maybe then you won't post "evidence" that doesn't back up your claims.
For the laymen here: "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof"
Creative have shown us next to nothing.
I want a Zii Egg Phone
There is much greater potential here that just a media device..... This device opens up the gates for manufactures to have accessories, and remote controls for devices that apple wont allow on there platform. Imagine for example the Apple TV remote app but for your TV, AV Receiver, etc etc. Having a cheap OEM development platform that can be taken to market immediately, is going to be very exciting. Our company has ordered the development kit so that we can add this as a remote control and interface platform to our existing product range.
Zune for me.
with all that Tegra muscle you know MS have some goodies in the works.
I am a big fan of the ZuneHD, but this does impress me. Still kind of a crappy resolution, (ZuneHD too,but at least it has OLED). Plus I have a bit more faith in the Tegra Chipset.
Still I would never buy it. Every Creative MP3 player I've bought this far had problems all related to the soldering of the headphone jack. I found one on the ground one time too, and it also had broken the solder of the headphone jack. Don't trust them anymore..
Really? The entire first page of Engadget is taken up exclusively by Zii? Wow, that's pretty impressive.
I see 1 post related to zii on the front page of Engadget...
I'm stoked!!!! Mine's going to be in by the end of august!!!!! Hoping for a clean voip experience
Put zii egg in zii pan!
Nein!
if it had a gsm card slot and simple telephone calling i'd probably adopt this now; the vga cam on the front is really intriguing for video conferencing! and at 399$ with sdk, it's a bit steep, but i imagine this will settle near 250$ for consumers
Front camera for video conferencing? There are tons of smartphones that have had this for years, yet do you see people using them?
These phones aren't normally sold in America, the carriers don't like them.
oh crap, it won't calculate the decay rate of my nuclear arsenal... I redact my previous statement of adoption!
this processor sounds like marketing bologna, but the concept that it is fpga similar is kind of nice

this isnt a apple product this sucks end sarcasm looks like a decent product loving the competition in the tech world
Sorry to tell the Engadget Zune nerds but the Zune does not HAVE XVID Or DIVX support. Why would you buy it. I want a wide spectrum of codec support out of the box.
Less time converting more time watching movies.
Jackal PI out
"First off, let’s address a common misconception of Creative Zii EGG. It is not a consumer product, but a developer OEM product. The Zii EGG will become a consumer product, but it will not be branded and sold by Creative for now. However, they do have the option to introduce a consumer product under the Zii brand, and they are just as happy to support other companies to create consumer versions as well."

I don't come here often to post unless its for free sh*t. With that said I will post here that I, for one, will never purchase another Creative product after having owned 4 previous (failures), 2 of which were soundcards whose drivers had to be maintained by some random dude because "Vista broke our stuff, boo".
If there are any of you out there who don't understand I will reiterate: soundcard drivers made by Creative to run their products at the spec'd utility had to be maintained and revamped by a lone consumer. Additionally, he caught flak for releasing drivers that made the cards fully functional under Vista and was asked by Creative to stop. The same people who pioneered soundcards in the modern PC just f-ing gave up leaving us all in the dust. Bad taste in my mouth? Hell yeah.
What this has to do with a PMP/UMPC is the Russian Roulette you'll be playing if you need software or technical support; it won't be there unless a CONSUMER comes forward to fix it.
Quite literally the support that Creative puts out for their devices is spooning up a steaming pile of turds 'n whey.
That incident was just a trigger happy forum moderator. Creative support any innovation consumers can bring to there products. I agree that driver support for vista was crap from creative, but they seemed to have picked themselves up lately releasing drivers for windows 7 months ahead of its release.
Although I passed on Creative for my most recent sound card upgrade (Asus Xonar Essence STX), that wasn't because of Creative's quality, that's because the STX had the built in headphone amp that I wanted.
And I still use my Zen Vision: M everyday without a single complaint.
I do want to upgrade this fall though, and I'm still torn between lusting over the Zune HD and the Zii. I'm pretty sure what I'm getting with the Zune, but I think I'm gonna need to see some reviews before all the Zii's capabilities are brought out.
Zii Egg will here on Thursday.
Will buy
So conflicted. Zune HD, or Zii and my existing Zune? PMP that works as a passable portable computer, or a proper portable computer with a PMP on the side? I can't decide! *head explodes*
Brilliant - love this thing - and great value
Yup, they're shipping. Just got notification and only ordered it on Monday.
mine's in Singapore according to fedex
