Video: Samsung's YP-M1 TouchWiz interface given a sideways glance
With an "NVIDIA chipset" (presumably, Tegra) underpinning the new YP-M1 media player, Samsung's got plenty of horsepower to drive its customizable TouchWiz UI across that 3.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen sporting 480x272 pixels. It's not ZuneHD-sexy but it's not bad. Unfortunately, not bad's not good enough in a waning market for dedicated media players lacking voice and data radios, WiFi, or a web browser. But if you run, run, as fast you can... after the break you'll catch the Gingerbread Man.
Update: Mike Rayfield, the general manager of NVIDIA's mobile business unit, confirms the M1 is Tegra-based.

It's bad enough that people are uploading videos to youtube with incorrect aspect ratio, but upside down? Jeez.
Its not upside down, its sideways. *rolleyes*
@Bash: The unit itself is shown upside down. Either way, it's annoying.
Fair enough.
AHH MY NECK!!!
It's too embarrasing to watch this vid.
my neck hurts... thanks a lot anon video maker
:D:D:D:D:D A Chinese Android! :D:D:D:D:D
Oh, dude... does it work? Or is it heavily KIRFed? :D
please MS, get a TV tuner function in the zuneHD. one of the reasons i considered other players because of this feature. with Samsung having the same specs as your own player, but without the programming know how you possess, im sure it can be done.
They cant do that as mobile TV isnt as big as it is in Asia, there are many competing and very different formats all over the world they would have to make a Zune for each type of mobile TV and it would cost a fortune.
They can't do that because there is no standard for digital TV broadcast for mobile/handheld in the US yet (ATSC was said to be difficult for mobile devices, but there's an upcoming standard called ATSC-M/H). Other countries are using DVB/ISDB that already have a standard for mobile/handheld devices.
Aside from rotating video 90 degrees,
Samsung REALLY has no clue about interface design. User interface must be elegant but subdued and any gimmick is perhaps cute at first but after few months it gets really irritating.
Samsung is perhaps capable of making memory chips, LCD screens and other components. But end user products? NO!
Put a shit to Tegra chip and it still looks like shit.
Ive got the P3 which also has this "cute" GUI. it is very nice and gives it a very "personal" and "easy" feel to it. if you've never used it (which you probably haven't) then don't can it.
@ArcticFox,
thanx for the info on the tv tuner function. tbh, wasn't sure how it worked, but seen other players have the ability, and would love for it to be an option to play regular tv stations on a mp3 player.
Bar some very minor changes (updated radio & 'Texts' UI, TV) this is exactly the same UI as you get on the YP-P3. Can't really see what Tegra is doing here (apart from twiddling its thumbs).
Weird fake hand is weird and fake.
hmm.. i dont really like the "drag out gadgets everywhere" feature.. so messy.. i mean, how do you sort gadgets, photos and other things with one finger?? its like the windows table thingy.. insane interface..
Their interface is not that bad. They may not be the best but it looks good enough to do the job. Seriously, please don't buy a music player based on 'how cool their interface' is. For me, I look for sound quality, price, music support and battery as my first criteria, followed by interface and design. The design and interface should at least attractive enough for me to buy it.
my neck hurts!
Watch this video, it is much better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kc948Dp0Ksw
It is a presentation by Samsung introducing the YP-M1 and around 7min 22 sec it shows they are using Nvidia Tegra chip. Very cool.
