Xbox 360 Pro 60GB for $230 during Woot Sellout
While it's no guarantee that a retail price drop is coming, seeing an Xbox 360 Pro selling for just $230 (plus $5 shipping) during a Woot Sellout certainly piles-on the evidence. The Woot model is your typical 60GB Pro (rumored to have reached end-of-life) with HDMI-out, wireless controller, headset, and component AV cable. However, instead of carrying a $300 price it costs about $70 less than your nearest brick-and-mortar will charge. The best deal you'll find until the rumored price cuts get official. So what's it going to be, slim, pull the trigger or wait?

go to walmart and buy the GOY elite for 300.
But does it include the RRD for free... or is that an extra charge...
ps3 ftw
I'm waiting for the Super Duper Elite Awesome Edition. Hopefully that one will have HDMI cable and wifi adapter bundled with it. ;)
Actually that edition already exists...in Canada though. You get the Elite, Halo 3, and XBOX Live Wireless Adapter for $339 Canadian, which is about $305 U.S.
@JH: Yeah, I just saw that. How come we in the US get shafted, even by US companies? >_
This is pretty funny considering the stories right before this one.
230 dollar box of fail plus 5 dollars shipping
I'll just wait for PS3 slim for 300, M$ doesn't include as much tech in their stuff.
Don't get me wrong, the PS3 is an excellent piece of hardware, but shouldn't the game console you buy be based on the games you want to play, not the tech in the console?
Are you buying a game console to drool over the Blu-ray playback or are you buying it to play games. Blu-Ray players continue to fall in price so for those that do have an HDTV and want Blu-Ray they can always go that route. For people that don't have HDTV or don't care about Blu-Ray, what is in it for them if buying a PS3 over and Xbox? It really boils down to if you want your console primarily for gaming or for HD movie watching.
Aside from the Blu-Ray, Xbox also offers a much richer media center experience with Netflix streaming, MCE (playback of your DVD library, DVR, and even HD video stored on your MC), and Win7's "Play-to" functionality to push your media (video, pictures, music) to your Xbox from the PC anywhere on the network. Xbox is really becoming the set-top-box that pretty mush does everything and the whole family uses.
I'll just use the money for something else
I could have bought a PS3 Slim and XBOX 360 elite (if the price drop is true) for the same price I paid for my launch ps3 :) I'm not complaining though with all these price drops, I knew exactly what I was getting myself into as an early adopter when buying new tech. It would be nice to see the pro model cleared out at $199 if the elite is going to be $299 or at least throw in a free network adapter at $230. The 360 is really lacking in the value for money department since the announcement of the PS3 Slim.
And it begins, I'm popping popcorn, who wants some?
as long as it isnt microwave
No thanks, I brought my own. Kettle Corn FTW!
I will be making a booze run later, though, if this gets any more heated.
what begins now? YOU MISSED THE GOOD BIT.
For the last two years the PS3 and 360 have been neck and neck in sales, with the PS3 taking overall yearly sales.
/gimme some popcorn!!!
(please)
I have a Pro that my wife purchased for me for my birthday in Jan. She purchased it from a big name computer maker that starts with "D" for like $240.
I love my xbox for the games and all my friends have one as well which was the biggest selling point. Have had zero issues with my xbox as the newer Jasper units have a MUCH lower RROD rate on them.
On a side note....friends don't let friends drink and reply to comments on Engadget ...lol. (I swear I have a point to my comment but can't quite seem to get there)
......OH YEAH....point being, the Elite unit will most likely see itself for the same price I got my Pro at this big name computer retailer.
Excuse my rambling, the popcorn is just not soaking up the alcohol lol!
Shit, if only I had 230 extra dollars...This would be perfect to buy now for the upcoming natal :(.
Looks like God's broke.
Child support is a bitch.
Child Support is a bi@!#.
Thank you, that was an awesome fail!
Natal is still over a year away. From what I have heard, expect it around October/November 2010 bundled with a system and sold separately. My guess is it will be in the neighborhood of $129 for the Natal standalone.
yeah, it was a fail, what I thought was a page error ended up being a laggy post/some kind of language barrier. Oh well, ya can't win em' all.
@JH
I've pondered the Natal price point idea a bit and I came to a different conclusion than you. I know it's a guess at this point and it could end up being an expensive accessory but based on the investment that MS has made into this technology and their plans for its adoption, I don't think they would price it very high. Here's why. Firstly, the real cost of this device is in the software development, not the hardware. The hardware consists of a couple web-cams, an IR cam, a mic or two, some little chip to do some processing, and a plastic casing. Probably about $10-$15 in manufacturing costs (bulk). On the software side, they have already invested billions, just as they do with their other large software projects. Knowing that accessories generally do not sell well as it is, this one would never get any kind of decent adoption rate if they don't price it right. MS has gone on record as saying they are treating Natal in the same way they treat a console launch and that means they are really going to push this and possibly, just like with consoles at launch, sell it for under cost. I think MS has a lot to lose if Natal does not get good adoption rates and a lot to gain if it does. This leads me to believe that they will sell this in the sub-$30 range and bundled in free with new consoles as well as possibly having some discounted pricing here and there like they did with Win7 pre-orders. At $30, they would not be taking a loss on the hardware (even factoring in labor, marketing, and shipping) and their R&D costs are just part of doing business that they will eventually recoup as they roll this technology out more broadly and license it to 3rd parties.
If they sell this at $130, it will certainly not be bundled free with new consoles (but they will probably have a bundle that is $100 over the stand-alone version) and it will not be widely adopted meaning that the billions they spent in R&D and technology acquisition (MS purchased 3DV Systems, an Israel-based company that specializes in camera-tracked motion and holds many patents on the technology) will have been for naught.
That's my theory anyways.
Got Woot?
Decent price...I'd snatch one up if I didn't have one-
And to think i paid 20 bucks more.. for a wii....
Anybody knows whether this is guaranteed to have Jasper in it?
Don't all of the 60GB versions have a Jasper mobo?
yeah according to the database almost all are showing as jaspers

@xnifex: Errr, going to the second page, there's a lot of Falcons, and even Zephyr. Woot tends to sell old overstock.
Thanks for the link though.
I don't know if this is really evidence, woot rarely sells things at retail, that's kinda the point
Go to shirt.woot instead and vote for my shirt!!! It's the creepy fish one!
Looked at the Woot page for the first time, and the write up was rather annoying, someone's attempt at humor on there failed as miserably as getting the red-rings on your console. The tagline at the top "All of our systems ship from Texas" has me wondering if what they are selling are "new refurbished units" since the XBOX 360 repair facility is in Texas. They can say "new" all they want, but I suspect they are factory-refurbished units.
Their write up is always like that, better than you regular description. Plus they meant it that way, throw off the scent. They actually want you to check out the tech specs before purchasing. And when it's listed as "New," you can't bet your savings that it's new. Refrubs are labeled the same way. Check out the regular woot.com site for an InCharge for Xbox 360 Inductive Charging System with 2 Rechargeable Batteries for $20 shipped!
The descriptions are supposed to be humerous, but most arn't IMO. Kinda half the draw to woot is to see the descriptions as its hard to get excited over some of the stuff they sell.
Still a good price.
They can't legally list it as new if it is a refurb. C'mon people, you should know this......
"During a woot sellout"? Stuff shows up *on* sellout.woot, or *during* a woot-off.
Please, e))), don't confuse sellout.woot.com (in which they "sold out" to big business, namely yahoo shopping, with another deal-a-day) with a woot-off (in which, rather than a deal per day, each deal is replaced when it sells out).
Classic, what was Engadgets post right before this? "Microsoft responds to Xbox 360 54.2 percent failure rate report, doesn't dispute the data"
http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/24/microsoft-responds-to-xbox-360-54-2-percent-failure-rate-report/
Doesn't look good!
Yeah but how many of those are Launch consoles? Because if it's launch consoles only, the failure rate should be higher. Also failure rate attached to Falcon only is something around 16% give or take. Sorry, too lazy to pull a citation out of my butt.
@ juice
Yeah their a lot better now, just thought it was funny how the articles were one after the other :D
Yeah it was pretty funny. I just happened to be an epiphany that I had just before I read your comment. It just seemed to be a good place to put it. Hope my interjection wasn't too out of place.
If you have a 360, it will fail. The failure rate is 100%.
That being said, I'm happy with my 360s and have no intention of getting rid of them. Quality games > quality hardware.
without a timeline to go with the quoted failure rate its meaningless.
"on a long enough time line the survival rate for everyone drops to zero." - same goes for all electronics
It doesn't matter what price the PS3 is, Microsoft will drop the price of the 360 to beat it. They've done it before.
More consoles sold than your rival > making money on those console sales
nice
Midnightbox.com was selling a 360 for ~$150 yesterday.
Actually...http://www.midnightbox.com/cgi-bin/item/10001009-21/search/XBOX-360-Elite-Console-Bundle-w-120GB-Hard-Drive-B4J-00122.html
$269 for Elite
Thats refurbished. You want to buy a refurbished 360? Really?
