Zune HD box contents spotted at Best Buy
We've already gotten a glimpse of the Zune HD's packaging courtesy of Best Buy's big preview event this past weekend -- but what about the contents of said packaging? Therein lies excitement. Excitement like some giant fold-out instructions, a USB cable, and a pair of headphones that seem to be more or less identical to the ones that came with the Zune 120 -- oh, and a little thing called the Zune HD. Hit up the link below for a closer look, and a couple more demo videos for those that still can't get enough of the thing.

This thing is going to be amazing.
HARD FACTS = Paul A. Chapel without the charm...not that that's saying much.
@Look_Around_You: Wouldn't that mean that Paul A. Chapel is very charming? I think you'd want to say "And that's saying a lot" since you're implying he has even less charm than Paul.
@iJames White: Wow, nice rant.
"When Apple made Computers, M$ were too lazy to make computers for themselves and told others to make it for them. When Apple makes GUI, M$ uses GUI on their OS. When Apple made a game console, M$ stole their idea and made the CrapBox and the CrapBox Too Shitty unrespectively. "
You really don't have any idea what happened with any of that do you?
Yes MS is too lazy to make software that works for multiple hardware vendors. Yes Apple was the first to make a phone in 2007. Touchscreen palms and Tablet PCs never existed before Apple came along. Thanks you for setting the record straight.
Oh and just to tie up why you're an idiot:
"In May 2006, the Pippin placed 22nd in PC World Magazine's list of the "25 Worst Tech Products of all Time"
That's that amazing game console Apple "made"(it was actually made by Bandai, using an Apple architecture) that Microsoft "copied" when it created the XBox and XBox 360, which have sold like gangbusters. Look up things next time before posting them.
@Mark
>>the XBox and XBox 360, which have sold like gangbusters.
Well, let's qualify this:
>>XBox
At a loss on every unit, even until production was terminated.
>>XBox 360
Indeed, sometimes 2, 3 times over as RRoDs claimed units at a suprisingly high rate (to the tune of a billion-dollar warranty extension.)
Not saying the pippin wasn't shit (hell if I know, but it's dead which says enough) but the XBox is only alive by virtue of being MS money-burning spawn. Any other company and it'd be a dead console.
@Mark
You are right.
My eyes were rolling so hard at his post, I forgot to think about it.
@microlith: You're forgetting a couple things:
XBox: Second best selling game console of its generation, 24 million sold
XBox 360: Fully made up for losses from the original XBox and has been running in the green for a while now. Second best selling game console of this generation, 30.2 million sold
Apple Pippin: Reported sales of 42,000, fewer than 100,000 manufactured before it was discontinued.
You may not like the XBox/XBox 360 but you're a fool if you refuse to believe it's been successful.
I was REALLY hoping for the Zune 80 headphones, but I guess they learned their lesson of packaging premium, good 'phones.
i have a question, can you only get a black 16gb unit or do you have the option of silver? i looked into pre-ordering a 16gb unit but it didn't have an option for silver.
Too many nubs in this thread...
Apple Pippin... Look at the XBOX controler...
Yea, nice way ro rip off Apple there nubbas...
XCROC is crap.
Apple Pippin was ahead of its time...
@Adam
Black = 16 gb
Platinum = 32 gb
Other colors online but you have to wait two extra weeks if you want those.
@HARD_FACTS:
"Apple Pippin... Look at the XBOX controler..."
Dude, really? Well in that case let's take the Pippin controller...way to copy off of Nintendo, Sony, Atari, etc. A plastic device held in the hands with buttons to controller characters on screen...Apple definitely did not invent that. I'm sorry you're jealous that Microsoft was able to make a video game console that actually succeeded. I'm also sorry you're jealous at the fact that you know the Zune HD is sexy as can be and looks better than any iPod ever made, but you can't admit it because you're too blind by your precious.
Yes, Hard Facts, let's take a look at the Apple Pippin controller...

Now the Xbox controllers...

Oh yes, I can see the direct copy of the Apple Pippin controller... /sarcasm
@ HardFacts
Agreed. Contents look almost identical to the iPod Touch, specially that USB cable!
@ Mark
Oh you like to call the XBOX 360 a successful a product when it has a 54.2% failure rate?
http://boycottnovell.com/2009/08/18/microsoft-exodus-insider/
Half the sales of the 360 are made of customers that won't be buying another 360 again and of repeat customers that bought a 2nd 360 when their prior one failed. Very few people would be foolish enough to keep paying money for something that keeps failing. And the sad thing is that when MS drops its own money to replace 360s they count that as another sale. Oh well, such are MS/Zune/360 users, have no awareness of what quality or value in quality is.
@foxkenji: Very few poeple still have those "fail prone units" anymore. I ended up with a jasper unit on my 4th xbox 360, and big whoop, i couldnt game for 2 weeks each time, and it was free to replace every time.
This thing will crush Apple and Applengadget.
I, for one, welcome our Zune HD overlords.
are those iBuds in your lego ears?
Disgusting, isn't it? To defile a perfectly good lego with something so monstrous.
why isn't this available in other countries? damn...
Standard earbuds...hmmm...
Somebody suggests an earphone that would go with this please,
Something that reveals all the audio power of the "Tegra"..
Tegra is designed to enhance processing and graphics power, not audio. But back to your question, the Nuforce NE-7M is great for $50... better than the Shure e3c's.
Not to crap on the Zune post here...
I've used the Apple In-ear headphones and loved them. There are a lot of good reviews saying they beat out more expensive competition. The one draw back is the silicon replacements. There are none. I lost one silicon piece so my set unusable. Sad!
But I suspect you don't want to ruin your Zune's integrity with white headphones. Haha.
GL!
*silicone
If the earpieces were silicon, you'd probably have cuts in your ears
Just go and buy these:

I ordered em saturday.
Depends on your price range and what style you like. The all around perfect headphones for a Zune HD would be the Bang & Olufsen Earphones. Besides being excellent headphones in their own right (they better be for $160), they match the Zune HD's style nicely. For extra irony, you could buy them at the Apple store.
On the cheap side I always recommend Sony MDR-G73LP. They sound great for the price and they're comfortable. They don't really match the Zune HD's style though. Order online. You'll never find them in a brick and mortar store any more. Only $23 at Amazon.
And for a little more money there are the Sennheiser PX 100s. Headband, open headphones. Sound great; I Can't Believe They're Not Full Size(tm). They can fold up, but aren't all that compact when folded, so I don't bother. $50.
I can't stand in-ear headphones, so I don't have any recommendations for those.
I love the Zune premium headphones. They have the cloth cords and the magnets on the buds so they can hang from your neck. They sound amazing to me. I'll just use those when I grab one of these. I got mine for like 30 bucks after I lost my original pair.
James has a nice list, though for the $50 option, I'd still take Koss Porta-Pros over the Sennheiser PX100s. Though both are fantastic for the price. In fact, I've never seen anything in the $50USD price range but Porta-Pros and PX100s recommended by any expert anywhere.
The earbuds aren't the problem. I thought this device was supposed to be pushing HD video out as it's big feature (I mean, it's in the title...). If that's the case then I think video out cables should come standard.
An In-Ear buds would have been much better..
Sept. 15 couldn't come soon enough...
Zune.... meh. Contents of Zune box...meh.
People who use meh... meh.
People who meh people who use meh...I really don't find them terribly interesting.
want this so bad, i hope the 64GB really is coming.
yea! have they updated a rumor on this?
The guy at best buy said they will probably bring that out after they see exactly what Apple have in store with the new ipod.
I don't put much stock in that but weren't those guys who were at the presentation NVIDIA or MS employees?
Yeah, yeah. I want one too, but lay off of this already until we actually see the damn thing in action.
Some of us already have. As a matter of fact, the picture this article is talking about is from a user that did see it in person.
No Mark, I mean ALL of us. What they show (again) is what I know my 8gb Zune will do. Show us some movies, the browser and the apps/app store.
Well this actually had some interesting information in it. I had assumed it would come with the same premium headphones that the Zune 80 came with. Therefore: newsworthy. Besides that point, we were able to play with the browser, see the 720p movies(which looked beautiful by the way) and saw that there will be an app store. Some of us were even lucky enough to see the video that shows Burnout playing on the Zune HD(thus my question below, trying to find anyone who caught it on video). I don't think it's at all strange that 3 articles came out of the first time users have been able to play with the Zune HD, in a much more complete form than has been previously seen(actually, I expected more of them).
Sometimes I feel pathetic how guys here seem to be excited by peeking into a media player box as if it's a cleavage of a sexy girl. And even more pathetic is that I keep on coming back to this blog.
It's what happens when you're a geek.
Damn, did anyone out there manage to catch the demo video that showed burnout for the Zune HD on camera? I would have asked to see the remote and gone back to catch it on video but they were closing up by the time I saw it. Someone out there must have captured it.
Yeah, I saw that video too, along with the App button under marketplace. We rewatched it quite a few times, but there really wasn't much to glean other than the fact that yeah, it was a full 3D version of Burnout. Should be fun. According to the Microsoft guy there, we weren't actually supposed to see some of those videos, they are the promo videos that are supposed to come on the actual Zune. Unfortunately for him, the four people there at the time were my friend and I, along with two other people our age (17) who knew what the fuck was up, so we went straight to places we probably wern't supposed to.
@ifalldownstairs: Haha, same here, I grabbed it and went straight to Marketplace and caught a picture/video of the apps menu. After that I went to the tethering app on my G1 to use the internet at which point they flatout said they couldn't let me, and stopped me from using it.Seemed like the reps weren't very well prepared for any real questions or people actually trying to use the device.
The guy at the location I went to (Lynnwood, WA) actually seemed pretty knowledgeable, but he really wasn't allowed to tell much. For some reason they had a guy fly up from LA to do the Seattle area presentations, even though Redmond is less than 45 minutes away
