PS3 Slim gets torn asunder

Update: The results are in and well, there isn't a lot of excitement to show for it except for maybe the large 17-blade fan that stretches 95mm in diameter. There's also a video slideshow of the process, seen after the break.

all that bullshit inside and no backwards compatibility.
AND NO... it doesn't cost sony more to integrate software emulation than it does to manufacture and service PS2's it is still building.
(some jerkoff told me that on a different thread)

Sony pack that thing pretty neat. Almost seem impossible for anyone to mod that case to be smaller than it already is.
Looks like it's a totally external PSU? Am I right? That's a smart thing as all the heat the PSU produces will be produced OUTSIDE the PS3. The old PS3 had an internal... Makes me happy!
It's internal.
Why do you care where the heat is produced? As long as Sony designed the cooling system properly, whatever amount of heat it produces won't be a problem. And if Sony designed the cooling system wrong, putting the PS outside isn't necessarily going to keep you out of trouble.
Ah... alas no. It's still internal but much smaller. Was fooled by the lack of a ground wire in the power cable. :-(
VIDEO IS PRIVATE BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I just got out of bed and ALREADY disappointment sets in for the day, damn it
Cant run the video - says its "private"
Theres a video another videolink at: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/PlayStation-3-Slim/1121/1
Though your not supposed to service this unit by your self I guess its much easier than on the old big PS2. I had the fan replaced in my PS2 but I had to turn it in to a serviceshop since I couldnt get into its crowded interiors
Microsoft, I hope you are taking notes back there on Mr. Sony's lecture covering effective thermal design in consumer electronics.
one of the teardowns mentions a new serial number in the pipeline, too. Any news on that?
Engadget already reported on that - there are FCC filings for a 250GB PS3 Slim.
Does the finding of a single Samsung K8Q2815UQB-PI4B flash chip mean that the new PS3 Slim only has 16MB of flash memory?
Can anyone confirm whether the HDD slot on the slim can accomodate a 12.5mm drive? I've only found one comment that says it can but I suspect it'll be 9.5mm. Hoping for a 12.5mm drive so I can install a 1TB drive.
I'd like to know this as well... 1TB in a PS3 would be fantastic.
Lack of backwards computability has nothing to do with any hardware restrictions. Sony wants to, and will, release PS2 games in digital format for you to download. Just like the Xbox 360 now offers "Games on Demand" through LIVE.
Hmm... Godda hand it to Sony on this one, that is one well built machine.
@elijahblake
If it didn't want to get violated like that, it shouldn't have been drinking at that party...
can't play the video anymore!!
Glad to see that cheaper didn't mean put together cheaply as well. The slim look slike it costs over $300 when you look at the parts. Some $3000 laptops aren't put together as well as this thing.
