What do we have here, you ask? Why, it's the Sony PS3 Slim, and it's available for purchase at this here Best Buy in Brandon, Florida -- a full day before Amazon ships ours. And you said you'd never go back to Brandon! A reader picked one up along with Arkham Asylum, and was good enough to share his haul with us (and with the world) via the Twitter. If you're in the area, you might want to make a quick trip out to the box store before the global PS3 Slim shortage hits. More photographic evidence after the break.

They dropped 1.3a from the package? oh, and why no cable? Not with PS3, not with Sony Bravia TV.

Picky as hell media-player. Doesn't support advanced MPEG4 functions, wont touch lvl5.x content, supports WAY too few container-fomats and is missing support for several codecs, incl. whatever my Sony camera is using.

To this day, I do NOT understand how they got certified. Its buggy, slow (playback underruns when copying works at 2x speed). Its also really picky, and ca every server has had to hack in PS3 support.

Try PS3 Media Server, works flawless with 1080p / mkv ..

PS3 slim will have even better build since it use chips that use less power consumption=Generate less heat=require less fans to cool it down=less noise and better build

Yes this article is about PS3 and i mentioned stuff about PS3 it does have super low failure rate i have to mention that for new consumers because having solid build is one of the best things about the PS3.

This is moot as the PS3 SLIM has no data to support this fact yet and when it does, the data should be compared to the latest iteration of the Xbox as this is the latest iteration of PS3.

99% of the readers of this site already know all of this. The everyday people (especially around the holidays) are not gonna go to engadget to read reviews list this. The fact is you have pretty much repeated the same post on nearly every PS3 Slim article that has come out recently. The consumers (engagdet readers) you are informing already know.
FYI, I ordered my crappy PS3 slim today.

DannyCage: I got DLNA certified servers already - and if it supports MKV, I suspect it is doing some server-side trickery to convert data or at least repackage it. Not all servers have CPU power for this.
No, despite somewhy being voted down, I stand by my statement: the PS3 is at best a half-hearted attempt from Sony at creating a network multimedia client :(
